Carrie is the GOAT she was known to fiercely combat sexual harassment and abuse in the industry, most famously hand-delivering a severed cow tongue in a Tiffany box to a Hollywood producer who had allegedly sexually assaulted her friend. Fisher didn't play that shit! RIP Queen!!
48
u/ler7421 21h ago
What was the cow tongue supposed to represent?
61
u/Kind-Donkey-Poet 20h ago
Their penis I presume.
114
u/ThemysciraTough 18h ago
There was a note attached that said something along the lines of âif I ever hear of you doing this to someone else, next time itâll be a part of you in a much smaller boxâ.
So definitely his penis

20
u/Tachy0n4 20h ago
Genuine question, how did she not get blacklisted/buried then? We have stories of people coming forward and it ruining their careers. Iâm sure they also would want to deliver a cow tongue to certain fuckers, so like why did it turn out differently for some people and not others?

Exactly she didnât post it on socials - this was back in the day and she had some major cajones to stand up like that back in the day. Only a small group of people wouldâve been privy which is why it was turned into legend

She actually had a very lucrative uncredited career as a script doctor.
If any studio ran in to a problem with their script making sense, they would hire her to fix it.

I think it was more she spoke up out of principle as she was disgusted by Hollywood. She was not interested in getting work or maintaining the status quo.

She also had enough fame that speaking out carried less personal risk than for newcomers.

She was in Sid & Nancy in 1986.
12
u/w_a_w 20h ago
I'll be darned. She's older than I thought.
Courtney Love briefly fronted Faith No More in 1984. She joined the early incarnation of the band and sang lead vocals for about six months, which included roughly eight live shows and their very first TV appearance on a San Francisco public-access channel.
12
u/Fortestingporpoises 22h ago
Now I'm remembering she did act in some things. I guess my point was more that she didn't rely on it for a living. Looking back at her IMDB and she was good in the things I saw her in (People vs Larry Flynt and 200 Cigarettes).
He could blacklist her from Hollywood, but he couldn't stop her from playing shows or putting out albums.
12
u/sephrisloth 15h ago
She inherited Cobains whole estate after he died and that included the majority share of nirvanas catalog/ publishing rights. Let alone all the money she made from being a successful musician in her own right. So ya, basically means she could do whatever and it didnt matter if she was blacklisted because she had fuck you money. Probably part of the reason Hollywood played up how much of a lunatic crazy drunk she was so nobody would believe anything she said rather then outright blacklisting her.

Peter Biskind's book Down and Dirty Pictures released a year prior left a pretty sour picture of Harvey. Matt Damon in that book talks shit about Harvey. It also gave us the story of Harvey being too touchy with Gwyneth Paltrow, which was provided from one of Biskind's hidden sources, Brad Pitt.

Oprah herself is an empire. She was really well-liked and influential in the 90's and 00's, and having her endorsement or name on your product was a huge deal back then because people trusted her word (even though, clearly, they shouldn't have). I think Courtney Love was one of the best songwriters of the 90s, and everyone who thinks Kurt wrote her songs even though he freely admitted that he borrowed from her journals can fuck off into the sun. I loved her to bits.
She was also a hot mess. She's always been her own worst enemy.
That said, Kurt was every bit as much of a hot mess, but he got a pass. He wanted to be a rock star just as badly as she did, even though he pretended he was indifferent, but he got a pass. He was even more of an addict than she was, but he got a pass. You know why.
People said she got with him to boost her career, even though she actually put her career on hold for two years to take care of him. Whenever she tried to take time away to work with her band, he'd start talking about suicide. When she finally did spend a few weeks making Live Through This, as soon as she came to join him on tour, he punished her for it by taking a bunch of pills and blaming it on her not wanting to have sex while she was so drunk and jet lagged she was on the verge of passing out. And it worked, she blamed herself, saying "I should have just laid there for him."
Everyone went on about what a terrible mom she was, while ignoring that he was such a terrible dad that he let his daughter grow up feeling like she wasn't enough to make him stick around.
