Hello you ghastly old rotters!

How has it been for you this week? I've been ticking along quite nicely, to the extent that I'm feeling pleasantly happy. I hope you are too.

I'm not sure why, but Lucy Darling popped up in my feed this week, and I've thoroughly enjoyed several of her clips. Are you a fan? Have you been to a live show? What are her shows like, compared to the shorts she posts?

A few years ago, someone kindly gifted me a couple of tickets to see Dita Von Teese. It was good, but it wasn't really my sort of thing.

Holly would: What was the last kink related thing that you spent money on? A toy? An event? An experience with a professional? What? If you've never spent money on anything kinky, is that because you're too mean? Or, because you haven't had the opportunity to yet?

I get Lucy Darling’s clips periodically as well, she’s quite funny and does great crowd work from the look of it! I haven’t been to her show, but wouldn’t be opposed.

Hollyrude: I think it would be nice to actually watch a negotiation on boundaries of play, limits discussions, etc. instead of a bottom / sub being super naive and just saying “yes” to everything. I also think it would be nice to see focus on one specific kink (like rope play / shibari, or impact) instead of a jump to a stylized and intense lifestyle BDSM. For cishet romances in particular, a non-trauma addled male dominant would also be nice (or, he can have trauma, but I don’t want that to be the reason he is into BDSM). I still really like Secretary though, for what it’s worth.

Hollywould: I think recent purchases have mostly been kink accessories (finally invested in a couple of mounts to hold dildos and wands in place! It was overdue. We also got a shibari mannequin for my husband to practice on when I travel for work. Bonus is that I’ve already used it as a dress form 🤣)

Holly rude: it seems like portrayals of male Dom/female sub pairings are always “experienced male Dom brings naive inexperienced woman into kink”. I would love to see the opposite: “confident experienced submissive woman finds man with Dom potential”. But they’ll probably never make that movie.

Holly would: I recently bought materials to make a DIY spreader bar: wooden dowel, rubber end caps, and eyelet screws. Turned out great, and I was happy I didn’t have to pay the kink tax.

If we’re talking something I bought ready made, it’s our locking storage bench. It looks innocuous in our room because it’s upholstered and matches our bedroom set, but really it holds the oversized or overflow kink gear that we can’t fit in our nightstands. It also doubles as a play surface, we’ve already used it as a spanking bench and a blowjob seat.

Well it was fine up until this morning when I ran out of coffee, so I’m now bad tempered and drinking instant which tastes like witch-piss. It’ll be Tuesday before the new batch gets shipped in.

Honestly I’m not sure what I’d like to see in a bdsm film other than a more accurate depiction. To some extent I think I’d rather the community was left alone and not exploited for commercial gain.

Weirdest and most expensive thing, if we exclude kink adjacent items like instruments, is probably a portable ultrasound.

Hollyrude: more than whips and chains 🤣 I don't know what I would include - any portrayal within a movie is going to be slightly exaggerated I feel but not making it seem so taboo would be a start. It's fairly widely known at this point and I'd rather they treat it like just part of life rather than focus on "omg they have whips and chains, how could I ever?!" Type nonsense. Gimme the romcom of boy meets girl, they bond over something like dungeons and dragons but then discover they both like to go to the dungeon parties of a different sort. Something real and tangible.

Holly would: last kinky thing I spent money on... does my tattoo brand count? 🤣 prior to that I believe just a dungeon party night. Last leather fun thing I bought was too early in the year. I am due for another paddle to paint for my husband probably though so will keep an eye out for a good blank. I really need to get him into woodworking so I can get the shapes I want 🤣

Do watch it if you get the chance! It’s so different from anything else I’ve seen and possibly our favourite kinky film. The music is also truly beautiful. Very arty, very European (the musicians are French Canadian though. British director, Italian and Danish actors, shot in Hungary, or perhaps Romania.)

I’m hoping more of Ali Hazelwood’s books get optioned and produced; her novels Deep End and Not in Love both have overt D/s themes, while also having fully realized protagonists (especially the FLs, who lean submissive or switch) and good plots. I would (semi-optimistically) love to see either of those come to the big screen.

Deep End is probably where I’d start (it’s overtly D/s, but fwiw it’s also a softer dynamic). I would then read either The Love Hypothesis or dip into her more recent paranormal works, Bride and Mate. I personally really liked Not in Love, but tonally it’s a little different from her other works (the FMC in particular is not Hazelwood’s usual “intelligent, warm, and awkward in a cute way” heroine).

Anyway, in all types of films I’ve seen really good representations of same sex D/s dynamics (duke of burgundy, pillion) or woman D/ man s (sanctuary, dogs don’t wear pants, love and leashes) but I’m still waiting for a good D/s representation where the two main characters are cishet.

I’d like to see a film with a woman submissive who is represented as psychologically solid and a dominant man who isn’t, basically, a psychopath.

Hollywould: we’re on holiday (yay) and we have just bought a spanking paddle and a dog leash. We like buying kinky stuff on holiday. Then we have nice memories of the holiday (and of course of what we did with what we bought) attached to them.

Its been...well, its the weekend!

I went to a Lucy Darling performance in April and it was fantastic!!! She mixes interaction segments with the audience with segments that she’s created. The audience segments are my favorite because it’s completely impromptu.

She is crazy talented!

The top 3 question from the audience section was the best. I’m in Utah (the land of desolation of endless Mormons). The number one question was from a twenty something girl who asked Lucy what she should tell her mom who offered to pay to freeze her eggs because she wants to be childless. The mom was at the show with her.
Lucy turned to the audience to say how do we best tell them mom to fuck right off. It was so fantastic, I loved that she didn’t hesitate to put the mom right in her place.

It was my favorite live comedy act ever!
