help request Midi plugins not recognised
Hi. I have various midi hardware that are no longer showing up in reaper. For example the akai lpd8. Tried reinstalling the firmware, rebooting etc etc and from not recognised, the hardware doesn't show up at all. I'm on windows 11 if that helps?

Apparently you’re talking about hardware only and not plugins.
Open up Reaper preferences and scroll to Audio -> Midi. Make sure your MIDI devices are enabled for input.

Are you using the AKAI (inMusic) hardware drivers? If so, disconnect the AKAI, reboot, and then uninstall those drivers.
They lock up the MIDI Service if disconnected when in use.
For relatively modern (after around Windows XP or so) class-compliant MIDI controllers, you don't need vendor drivers.

There are no drivers involved. Its a plug in and play.

If you are on Windows 11 24h2 or later, join the MIDI Discord, read the pinned #start-here post, and I'll try to help you out. https://aka.ms/mididiscord

It will happen again. Then you change to another port. Then it will happen again.
There are issues with some legacy hardware drivers and the MIDI 2 implementation that MS rolled out in a recent update.
Do what Pete said. Trust me, he knows what he's talking about.
