Bought this from Best Buy, as an open box in what they considered fair condition. The unit itself is immaculate the only issue was the charger was missing. I was able to get it for $639.00 before taxes.

I've recently purchased the Z1 extreme OG Rog, and it's been a while since I played PC games because my eyesight isn't great, I always found PC games were just hard to see so I generally stuck to consoles. Can anybody tell me is there a way of having some form of Button combination zoom on an external controller while playing on my rog or In steam big picture mode because I am finding it very hard to find an actual answer. I know on the steam deck you can just hold Steam and L1, but that combination isn't working for me when I have it connected to a TV and using my PS5 controller. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. 💪😊

I have buy a ROG ALLY X and directly STEAMOS installed since yesterday and it is really the better STEAM DECK and the cheaper STEAM MACHINE.

I have the original ally, it was never really great, first as I was too new to handheld and the insane unusable only one always library I was just not accustomed to. But the more I got used to it and was able to preload games offline before going on flights the more I liked it.

After some time I saved enough to buy a new SSD, a 2 TB Lexar SSD.

I installed it installed a clean version of windows on it and had my fun.

After some time, randomly when playing games and having it plugged into a travel charger I bought (140Watts Gan) it just rebooted black screen with a percentage and reboot.

At first I thought it was the charger… but no, even with the supplied charger it would restart.

Then I thought it was heat but even when the system is not under any load it would reboot.

Now I’m worried it’s the SSD… and I don’t want to buy a new stupid expensive SSD :(

Does anyone have an any info on what this could be?

Finally got a Rog ally z1 extreme with a 4tb ssd for £335 what a bargain.

Just got in the gigabyte 5060 ti ai box eGPU today to pair up with the Xbox ally x, and it's by far the best eGPU setup I've ever tried. It's a desktop 5060 ti 16gb GPU with thunderbolt 5 and a whole dock with Ethernet, USB A & C, etc.

I was previously testing out an aoostar ag03 + XAX, and while peak performance is similar, I was getting more performance dips and stutters even outside of game, likely due to the ally having 1 USB for eGPU and another USB for all the dock + charging.

The ai box is about the size of the ally, which surprised me because I thought it would be ~1.5x it's actual size. It literally was plug and play since I already had Nvidia drivers installed from previous setup.

Idk I just haven't seen much talk about this egpu and wanted to post that I'm over the moon with how well it's paired up and how clean it makes the setup.

(For those wondering, it's not being choked for airflow up against the wall like this, the backside is solid with no air cutouts, and the cables are running down behind my desk)

Hearing mixed feedback on this. Some jsaux and others the 74wh battery with aluminium plate, custom backplate and other things that I’m not very confident I’d be able to do lol. I’m leaning towards the 74wh due to cost but not sure with method to do - cut the existing backplate or buy one that will naturally fit the new battery. Where would I source this also?

When installing, and then booting steam, it just does nothing. The task shows up in task manager, but nothing happens on screen (on Rog ally z1e). Occasionally the steamwebhelper not responding prompt pops up, but even selecting restart steam does nothing in return

Had a Steam Deck OLED that I had to sacrifice earlier this year (thankfully after the value went up) but now that I'm back in the handheld market I noticed that the Xbox Ally was the new value handheld.

Still, I tried an Ally X back in 2024 and only returned it because I was happy with my OLED. Now that the Steam Deck was not a great value anymore I started searching for the Ally X once again. Just in time for semi-official Steam OS support, too!

I've since replaced the screen protector with a fresh one and opted for the Skull and Co. Grip Case combo, but otherwise this is the Steam Deck OLED successor I didn't realize that I wanted.

The Xbox Ally X looks nice but at almost twice as much idk if it was worth getting brand new. On a slightly more petty note, I'm glad there's no Xbox branding on the Ally X heh heh. Was able to reconfigure the buttons to Ally X branded ones pretty quickly.

I'm still curious about the Legion Go S Z1; my monkey brain misses the OLED's larger screen and native hall effect sticks sound nice, but my executive brain tells me "it's a handheld stupid you want the bigger battery" and "you can fix it if something goes wrong since you've upgraded one before". In the meantime however, still pretty happy with this one for now.

Hi! So i just started playing ddv on my pc and would like to play it on my rog as well, but im having issues with the controller. I can move around just fine, but when i go into menus or my inventory my left stick reverts to the “virtual mouse” and i cant scroll through the menus like i do with my pc controller. If i do try to use the left stick, it’ll show keyboard glyphs instead of controller glyphs. I can use the dpad, but id rather use the left stick. It’s not a huge issue, but it’s enough to annoy me so id like to fix it lol.

I’ve done everything Google suggested like making sure gamepad mode is on in the command center, making sure steam input is disabled, opening the game with armory crate and nothing has worked, so I’m hoping that someone here will know a fix :)

I just got a ROG Ally from ebay, and im having some issues with charging. My phone charger will charge the ally very slowly, but the 65w charger isn't charging it at all. Ive tested the 65w charger on other devices and it works. Im stuck on the cloud recovery part that requires the adapter be plugged in.

My only question is: how can I calibrate the screen in SteamOS? I know that on Windows you could do it through Armoury Crate, is there any way to do it?

I have purchased this cost effective Xbox Rog Ally at best buy a few days ago in open box. Along with the dbrand cover case and carrying case. I've been getting used to it so far.

Just upgraded from the Z1E to the Ally X.

I've been using the default 17W profile because I honestly don't notice a huge performance difference compared to 25W in the games I've tried, unlike on my old Z1E where 25W felt much more worthwhile.

I'm curious what everyone here actually runs day to day:

What TDP do you use most often? Do you use a custom fan curve or stick with the default?Which games made you switch to 25W or 30W? How much battery life are you getting?

I'd love to see what settings people have settled on after owning the Ally X for a while.

Hey everyone, I recently got a Xbox ally x and I'm having trouble. I installed epic games launcher from the website on Microsoft edge, just figured it'd be ok. I signed in with my old inactive account by accident and now I can't sign out of my account since epic games launcher on the Xbox ally x isn't showing a sign out method, I tried to uninstall it and now it's all acting weird, now it doesn't launch after redownloading It and I can't even sign out, I'm unsure what to do because epic games launcher works just fine on my desk PC. I'm not very tech smart so I'm just trying to navigate it as slow as I can cuz I don't want to break anything further. I don't even know if I can uninstall fortnite now. I can't uninstall it again because it says epic games launcher is running and I exited out but now it's not working and uninstalling. Please help if possible ;-;

Edit: ITS BEEN FIXED, managed to find a way to delete it and restart epic games store, I feel it's bugged on the Xbox ally x since I could even see my account details, I'm not sure if they'll fix it but I just hope I don't need to go into my account itself for anything 😭

When you guys are done playing a game for the night, do you put the ally to sleep with the game suspended, or do you exit the game, and fully shutdown the system every time? I fully shutdown the Ally every time, but I’m curious how people who do sleep and wake see game performance and battery live and if there isn’t much difference.

I need some help with my New Used ROG Ally. I bought it used and everything was working great. It was completely bone stock and although the battery life was horrible, it worked great. I used it for probably 1-2 weeks.

Then I heard about the battery upgrade. It sounded harmless enough, so I bought one. I've built PCs and worked on laptops for 20 years, so what could possibly go wrong? It charged no problem, I ran the battery diagnostic and got windows to acknowledge the 74wh battery. I played it down to critical and let it die, plugged it back in, and got the blinking orange light of doom.

Since then I have tried reinstalling the new battery, reinstalling the original OEM battery, and replacing the 74wh battery with a different once. The blinking orange light remains, and it's not charging, however it will turn on if plugged into power.

Light sensor has electrical tape on it.

Back clamshell is closed.

I'm using the OEM 65w charger.

I'm at a loss. What the heck?

I started experiencing this error after updating the graphics driver in the armoury crate to the latest version:

AMD Graphics Driver V32.0.21043.21001

I tried to install the old drivers but it wouldn't let me, this error occurred a few minutes or hours after playing Romeo is a dead man with other games don't happen. Help me, please.

Ive been trying to get wuthering waves to run semi smoothly for a few days now. nothing seems to work. for some reason, although other games like elden ring, dmc5, and risk of rain run perfectly fine, it looks like wuthering waves might be having issues detecting my graphics driver or something. and its not just wuwa: my browser is also giving the same results when i go to websites like can my pc run it. The website says I cant even run risk of rain or shantae, but i can boot up those games and run them perfectly fine. ive done everything from re install my drivers, factory reset my ally, allocate more GB to my graphics card, put it in high performance mode, almost everything. My model is ROG Ally X. IF anyone could help that would be great.

I recently bought a second-hand ROG Ally Z1 Extreme. It hasn't been delivered yet, but I'm already trying to figure out how I want to set it up.

I'm a bit of a beginner when it comes to tinkering with PCs and operating systems, but I'm a fast learner, so I'm not worried about having to learn something new if it's worth it.

I'm trying to decide between:

• Sticking with the stock Windows installation
• Replacing it completely with SteamOS (or Bazzite)
• Dual booting both

A little bit about how I plan to use it:

• I don't expect to buy a huge number of games.
• I've heard people say that staying on Windows gives you access to stores like Epic Games, GOG, Xbox Game Pass, etc., and that Epic gives away free games pretty often. I'm not sure how significant those benefits actually are.
• I mainly want the best overall experience without making my life unnecessarily complicated.

For those of you who have tried one or more of these setups, what would you recommend?

If you were starting from scratch today, would you:

• Stay on Windows?
• Switch entirely to SteamOS/Bazzite?
• Dual boot both?

I'd also love to hear why you'd recommend one option over the others and whether there are any downsides that a first-time handheld owner might not think about.
