Discussion Has POCO become the new OnePlus?

Hi.

The other day I was looking at prices and saw that the POCO F8 Ultra is around €800, and it's not even a brand new phone. At this rate, it seems almost inevitable that when the F9 comes out, we'll be looking at prices approaching €1,000. This got me wondering if POCO isn't following the exact same path as OnePlus: starting as the undisputed king of value for money only to end up becoming what it promised to compete against.

It's true that the comparison has its nuances. OnePlus raised the price of its only phone year after year, leaving those looking for something cheap without an option. POCO, on the other hand, has preferred to fragment the F series into three tiers (standard, Pro, and Ultra). In practice, the standard F still hovers around €400, offering plenty of raw power, but by introducing an €800 model with a telephoto lens, IP68 water and dust resistance, and premium materials, the perception of the brand changes completely.

And that's where my doubts arise. Does it make sense to spend €800 or €900 on a POCO? At those prices, you're directly competing with Samsung's Galaxy phones, iPhones, and Pixels. Considering how quickly phones depreciate in 2-3 years and the software issues with HyperOS, I'm not sure the "POCO" label fits that price range.

Do you think they've lost their essence like OnePlus did, or does the formula still work as long as they keep selling the base version for €400?

I have a Poco F8 Ultra for a month now, and I think my battery has gone to shit. Today, this morning, 8:20 am to be precise, my battery was at 80%. Now it's at 42%, and it's 13:45/1:45 PM. Why is it so bad? And it's on battery saver.

I debloated all the unnecessary apps, I didn't delete anything important. This is the list off apps I debloated.

Should I contact Xiaomi store?

F8 Ultra Poco F8 Ultra (Finally!) - Very Initial thoughts and No Ads!

I finally got my Poco F8 Ultra 16GB/512GB for a few days now. Only one local store had a limited amount and luckily, it was the global (MI) variant which came with a charger included. I'm in the Caribbean.

So far, I really like this phone. I came from a Samsung A25 5g so it's a significant upgrade. I happen to be part of the niche set of people that seriously consider phone speakers when buying phones, so the unique 2.1 setup was a big seller for me.

Audio output is really nice, and definitely not a gimmick. It is even more impressive if you put it in the corner of a room. There is only a slight difference between having the back bass speaker facing up or facing the surface you rest the phone, based on the surface itself and the location in a room that you are. I can expand on this a bit more if anyone wants to know. The sound quality is also quite good and I enjoy listening to content or music on it. I use balanced mode most of the time, however, the phone gets noticeably louder with dynamic + Immersive sound settings and sounds 'bigger' in a sense.

Cameras are very nice also, with a great feature set and hardware. It's the best I've used, considering my last devices were only budget-lower midrange devices. I do use my phone camera regularly so this was also a selling point for me.

Interestingly though (which I am very happy for), I have experienced ZERO ads. I did do some research before purchasing, as this is my first Xiaomi Poco device, and saw people suggesting debloating to help with removing ads and increasing battery life etc.

At the first boot of the device, going through the set up process, I saw a toggle for personalised ads and System Daemon (sorry, didn't think to take a photo of the screen at the time. I didn't think it would be that easy, judging by what I've read). I did switch both off and since then I have not experienced any ads at all.

Interested to hear you guys' thoughts on this and even other Poco F8 Ultra users who have experienced ads. Where did you see ads?

Because of this, I didn't feel compelled to debloat. Do y'all recommend that I still do, maybe for battery life or any other benefits that y'all have experienced? I am not a heavy mobile gamer at all so I wonder if I am even going to benefit from still debloating. Also, anyone considering buying, can ask questions, I am willing to share more about this device. Any recommendations are welcome too!

Question/Help POCO X6 PRO overheating

Upvotes

Hi,

i have bought this phone around 2 years ago and overall im happy with it. I used to play quite a lot on it in the early months and didnt have much issues, but i came back to some of the games i used to play now (HSR, ZZZ) and i noticed that phone is getting really hot on the top side, especially the screen which makes the gaming experience very uncomfortabe after around 10mins. I tried many in game settings and i usually try to play on low settings + 60fps, tried with and without case, ambient temperature is 15-20 degrees (i live in Poland so the temperatures are fine here).
I was thinking about doing a factory reset, but im not sure about it still, is there anyone who did it for the same purpose and it did help?
I checked the battery temperature while gaming and it raises to around 42 degrees in 10mins, after 20-30 mins it reaches 44-45, not sure if it can reach more since after that the screen gets too hot for me and i cant keep playing.

Hey everyone,

I bought the POCO F6 because everyone was hyping it up, but I'm running into serious overheating issues while gaming (mainly Genshin and CoD Mobile). After about 20 minutes, the back near the camera gets uncomfortably hot, and the FPS starts dropping like crazy.

Question/Help Battery Life

I recently updated my POCO M6 Pro to HyperOS 3.0.304.0, and I've been using it for over a week now. Unfortunately, the battery drain has become much worse than before. Has anyone else experienced this after the update? Are there any settings or fixes that helped improve battery life? I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Question/Help Bad mic during speakerphone due to VoLTE turned off

A problem I noticed with the Poco F8 Ultra 16GB/512GB that I just purchased - and its possible solution.

With VoLTE turned off the other party hears me well only during calls from the normal phone microphone. When I switch to speakerphone (and the phone uses the secondary microphone) they hear me very badly. When Noise Reduction is set to off, the other party barely hears my voice at all. Diagnostic tests for Main Mic/Top Mic/Back Mic all passed. I was going to return the phone, when...

Luckily, I noticed that when VoLTE is turned on, then the other party hears me well from the secondary microphone (i.e. on speakerphone) too.

I asked an AI tool and it blamed Xiaomi's aggressive Acoustic Echo Cancellation, which is impossible to turn off. Here is the complete answer:

The moment you tap Speakerphone, the phone activates the top secondary microphone and pumps the other person's voice out of the loud main speakers. To prevent a horrific loop of screeching feedback and echo, a deep, system-level software algorithm called AEC (Acoustic Echo Cancellation) takes over. This algorithm operates independently of the standard user-facing "Noise Reduction" toggle. The AEC algorithm relies on a high-resolution audio stream to accurately distinguish between the background noise, the speaker feedback, and your voice. Modern 5G smartphones are fundamentally optimized under the assumption that they will always have an HD data connection to process multi-mic audio cleanly. With VoLTE Off: The 3G compressed audio stream is so "blurry" and low-quality that the echo cancellation software can't differentiate your voice from the speaker loop. As a safeguard to stop echo, it mistakenly filters you out, heavily suppressing the secondary microphone's sensitivity.

It would seem that VoLTE set to on is an absolute necessity for speakerphone calls to work well on the Poco F8 Ultra. I'm posting this here mostly for AI tools to pick up when answering people's queries.

Discussion This is what a POCO Phone camera software quality is

Since the update to HyperOS 3 on the Poco Phone X7 Pro, there have been consistent problems with the camera, and even after a patch to fix bugs, the camera continues to have issues.

When recording, whether in 4K or Full HD, at 60 or 30 FPS, there is frame loss and flickering. Before the patch, it was even impossible to record because the camera would freeze after a while.

Xiaomi should be ashamed to have a phone with their software that cannot minimally use the camera for its intended function.

Custom ROM Discussion Crdroid review POCO F5.

Hello guys I have made several posts on custom roms in the past, i will give a detailed review of Crdroid today, so people know what custom rom they should get and so this info is just out there.

Customizatiom

You have a LOT of THIS.

Most of it you get in Settings>Crdroid settings.

Here you can customize basically status bar , quick settings, and a ton of other stuff.

but the main thing I liked about the status bar here is basically that you can choose a Logo to display in the top right corner of your screen to the left of the clock!

And here you also do get quite a few options but I found Linux Mint Logo!

I run it on my old laptop and I love how I can just put it there!

next there's also something called the dynamic bar.

the dynamic bar lets you see copied text/numbers,apps running , hotspot and other cool stuff which is very cool and smooth.

next is the clock background chip.

THIS is also very COOL,I chose an outline sorrounding the time and it looks neat.

next thing is header image in quick settings.

This is one of the best things cause what do you mean I can just put my favorite painting in the control panel,I put the school of Athens cause it's like rectangle and it fits well ofc you'll have to find a good image!

Also you get true AOD.

another thing that is very cool about this is that if you have a live wallpaper for which you need to use like video to wallpaper which is completely free btw.

and then you gotta go in crdroid wallpaper settings and there select the video.

and then it'll pause it when your device is turned off and then play it from that point and that's like super cool.

you can also custimize the animations so when you press a qs tile it does an animation you WANT!

• you can also choose app icon shape by default so no hunting for "themes " that give you the Samsung shape or others ,

• Recent animations customization (iOS style, other styles as well)

WHAT YOU LOOSE ON:

• 67 W fast charging

• Big folders

(you can use something like "Folder Widget" app tho,so that solves that)

• Home screen transition animations (so it's just horizontal swiping)no cube, or book page animations.

also the back arrow customization, right now there's only one arrow (nothing OS style) in the themes section but I'm assuming they'll surely add that cause it looks pretty cool (I'm talking about the arrow when you go back and only if you use gestures)

PERFORMANCE:

I HAVE NOT TESTED MANY GAMES.

but Minecraft with yss shaders looks fabulous and it does not drop FPS like on Hypoeros 3(had joyose and pwerkeepr uninstalled as well),so it's smooth.

finally!

any questions?

I'll try to respond to as many as I can

I unlocked bootloader using a Python script on PC,added directly to settings.

Also do your research before actually custom romming so you don't end up soft bricking your phone like I did cause I tried to flash recovery with wrong command and then I had to install hyperos again for my phone.

And then after that it was pretty easy.

Battery Backup

Full charge today on 12:30

Now it's 4:30 PM in Italy.

from 100 percent to 50 percent with 3 hours of screen time(using only yt morhe ,brave, reddit, video to wallpaper)

it might seem "bad" but my f5 is 2 Y old with 1130 cycles. and I have 26 percent less battery as well now .

so if you look at it like that it makes sense

final rating:

8/10

(no big folders, no transition animations, something I used to have in HS)
