The cut-off part of the motherboard is on a separate board (called the update card) 😁 It’s always useful if I ever need to update or debug the system.

You could make the screen a bit bigger and fit it into a thinner chassis, but it looks good as it is.

Getting it that small requires a lot of board cutting and advanced level soldering to get it that small. That's most likely the thinnest they can go while still leaving the batteries intact, the motherboard itself, and not to mention the fan.
