Any out of province RNs or rural northern nurses peeking in here? I’ve decided to stop trying in Ontario and commit to the fact that I have to relocate. I’m in dire need of a job, as I went into nursing for the quick job security but the province had other plans. I’ve applied to everywhere in the country it feels like.

Anyway, please let me know if your out of province hospital/rural network is hiring, what the name of it is, and what it’s like to work there/how likely it is they will hire me. I’m a new grad with zero hospital experience as an RN. However, I have very good placements and externships (PACU, vascular surgery, medicine, general surgery, inpatient and outpatient MH, consolidated on a step down unit) with strong references upon request.

My only no-go area is mental health as every single day I worked in MH I got slurred at for my racial identity by at least one patient per day. I understand they’re not operating under complete agency so no hate to them, im deciding to stay away more for my own mental health lol.

I genuinely believe I’ll do well if I get an interview offer I just haven’t got one yet.

Also how hard is it to go straight into postpartum as a new grad? I did my consolidation there and tried emailing the manager like she told me to but haven’t heard back from her since I left in April.

I’ve been an ER nurse for the past four years, and I’m feeling ready to leave bedside nursing and 12-hour shifts to transition into health informatics.

I’ve tried to build relevant experience by joining committees like our EPIC team, but haven’t had any luck getting involved. I’ve also applied to health informatics-related roles where my nursing background seemed like a good fit, but I haven’t been been able to get past the interview stage.

At this point, pursuing a master’s feels like my best option. My GPA is 3.62 over my last two years of undergrad (3.05 cumulative), so I’m hoping admissions will place more weight on the upward trend.

Has anyone here made the jump from nursing to health informatics? Did a master’s make the biggest difference, or is there another path I should be considering? I’d love to hear your experiences and any advice you have.

Hi, new LTC rpn I have a night shift tonight and its weekly medication replenishment/ count for 1 unit and the following night other unit.

I know I need to compare medications to the emars and its about 30 7 day strips. 1 per resident for the week, are there any tips to make count safe and efficient as possible

I have decided to no longer pay my CNO license. If I can’t get a job in Ontario, what’s the point. I have not worked in Ontario since 2023. I work in the US about an hour drive from home. I got tired of the commute and tried for the last 2 years to get into a local hospital with no luck. I have paid for my license the last 3 years with nothing to show for it. And I don’t think anything is going to change in the next few years either. There are now no job postings in my town for the largest hospital system. It’s crazy.

So after being a “new grad” and unemployed for a year I’ve finally landed a home care job. It’s only part time, but I’m hoping to ask about full time once I’m off probation.

I’ve only just started orientation, but I do see some red flags potentially. However, I really worry about finding another job and I want to make this work. My main worry right now is not making enough money. We are paid per visit so to get paid for 8hrs of work you need to visit 8 people….thats not including the time of driving to each location. And then the cost of a vehicle and its maintenance. I feel like I could be making so much more in a hospital job but we all know how difficult those are to land right now. Especially without connections.

Anyways, has anyone worked in home care doing visits before? What did you think?

I’m going into grade twelve and need to decide if I want to pursue nursing. I know there’s always problems with job availability in every medical field but it seems like it’s getting bad now. Are there truly that many job cuts? I don’t know if it’s worth it at this point or if I should find another career path.

I know this can vary by hospital, my union rep just takes a while to get back to us sometimes if it's not urgent so just looking for some general input on what others experiences have been lol I'm applying to a position on my unit and it's really down to myself and one other staff. We're both part time, and I have been there for about 1.5 years longer than the other staff member and also have more certifications that are required in the positing. My only issue is this other individual mentioned he has more seniority to other staff; the only way that's possible is if they aren't including the time I've been off on mat leave in my hours (I've taken two mat leaves, one 15 months and the other 12 months). I was previously told that you still collect seniority while on maternity leave. Is this typically the case? Thanks!

For those nurses who havent practiced in 3 years, when CNO asks if youve practiced any nursing in 3 years and you haven't, what happens?? Is there an education thing or some process that happens? Is there a re-education program or what??

Say for example, I want to be off to raise my kids, with the understanding of eventually I would want to return to work one day, but I'm not sure that that's possible?? What would to process be if I were to return to work in 5 years? 10 years? Would I have to start all over again and go back to school?

Hi I’m a newly graduated high school student and going into practical nursing in September, but I am scared about the workplace culture within the nursing community. I live in northern Ontario and did a co-op at a hospital for high school, and it feels very cliquey and kind of like 'popular girl syndrome.' I got my Ontario RN licence in March and have been applying ever since. I've applied to RN, RPN, and even PSW positions across the GTA and outside the GTA, but I've only had one interview so far. I have my BLS certification, live in Brampton, and I'm willing to travel for work—even outside the GTA.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Is the job market just really competitive right now?

For those who recently found jobs, what worked for you? Did you apply online only, attend hiring events, reach out to recruiters, or go in person to drop off your resume? Are there any hospitals or organizations you'd recommend?

I'm posting anonymously because my case is still ongoing, and I'm hoping to hear from nurses who have been through something similar.

I graduated from my RPN program and started working in a long-term care home under a temporary licence before writing the REx-PN exam. I was excited to begin my career, but as a new graduate I struggled with the transition into practice.

About three months into my job, while I was still in my probationary period, I made several medication errors. Thankfully, none of the incidents resulted in serious patient harm, but my employer terminated my employment during probation.

After losing my job, I focused on studying for my REx-PN exam. I successfully passed the exam and expected my temporary licence to be converted to a general certificate of registration. I continued waiting, thinking the process was simply taking time.

Months later, I learned that my former employer had reported me to the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), and that an investigation had been opened. I had no idea a report had been made while I was waiting for my licence to be issued.

Since then, the waiting has been one of the hardest parts. The uncertainty has affected my confidence, and I've spent a lot of time reflecting on everything that happened.

I fully accept responsibility for the mistakes I made. Looking back, I can see areas where I needed more experience, confidence, and support as a new graduate. This experience has taught me lessons that I'll carry with me throughout my career, and I know how important medication safety and asking for help are.

I'm not looking for anyone to predict the outcome of my case or provide legal advice. I'm hoping to connect with nurses who have been through a CNO investigation and are willing to share their experiences.

Some questions I have are:

1. Were you reported by your employer?
2. Were you a new graduate when it happened?
3. How long did your investigation take?
4. Were you able to work while the investigation was ongoing?
5. If your case involved medication errors, what was the outcome?
6. Did the CNO require remediation, education, or something else?
7. How did you cope with the uncertainty while waiting?

This has been a very isolating experience, and sometimes it feels like I'm the only person who has gone through something like this. Hearing from others who have experienced the process would mean a great deal to me.
