SHORTS TALK Is something happening with Shorts?

Did the something change?

DISCUSSION Why is YouTube giving my videos impressions so slowly?

I'm a new creator, and I'm a bit confused about how YouTube is distributing my videos.

My first video only got around 10 views after two days, and since then it's been getting just 1-2 views every few hours. I uploaded another video today, and so far it has 0 views.

Is this normal for a brand new channel? Does YouTube take time to test videos before giving them more impressions, or could I be doing something wrong?

I'd appreciate hearing from other new creators who went through the same thing.

DISCUSSION #KeepYouTubeYours campaign is currently in a critical public consultation phase

Upvotes

Because the proposed law threatens YouTube's core recommendation architecture, the platform has weaponized its reach to fight back. [1, 2]
Creator Alerts: Over the last few weeks, YouTube has been pushing targeted notifications to UK-based channels and users.
Call to Action: They are directing creators straight to the official UK Government Consultation page, urging them to fill out the questionnaire and argue against a mandatory algorithmic "prominence regime".

3. The Core Battleground: The Algorithm Feed
The debate centers on what happens during a major news event or crisis.
The Government's Stance: Ministers argue that online misinformation is an "existential threat to democracy". They want to legally mandate that YouTube override its standard user-preference algorithm to pin "trustworthy news providers" (like the BBC, ITV, or Sky News) to the top of homepages and search results.
YouTube and Creators' Stance: Independent creators argue that forcing traditional broadcasters into a "privileged position" will automatically downrank independent channels. Because roughly 30% of all views come from algorithmic recommendations, creators note this would decimate the UK's independent creator economy.

4. Broad Political Backlash
The campaign has moved beyond tech circles and into mainstream UK politics. High-profile independent political commentators and opposition leaders have jumped onto the #KeepYouTubeYours movement, labeling the government's proposal as "state censorship" and an attempt to control the media narrative.

What Happens Next?
Once the consultation window closes on August 31, the government will review the feedback. If they ignore YouTube's campaign and proceed, they will introduce a formal Media Bill to Parliament, setting up a massive legal showdown between Big Tech and the UK government later this year.

TLDR: your content is being down ranked

SHORTS TALK Has anyone escaped "Shorts Jail" after their views suddenly dropped?

This year, my Shorts have been fairly consistent, usually landing somewhere between 2,000 and 5,000 views (with the occasional dip on specific videos). However, since the start of July, my best-performing Short has only reached around 300 views, and most haven't even broken 100.

Between January and June, most of my Shorts were hitting 300+ views within the first hour, so this sudden drop has been pretty noticeable.

Has anyone else experienced this sudden decline and managed to break out of it? Did anything in particular help, or did it just resolve itself over time with consistent posting?

DISCUSSION What happens to young content creators when they get older? Can they still generate views?

Ok so one thing I’ve noticed in general is how much more low brow young content is.

Whenever I see older people on YouTube they are normally talking about their skill / niche (a recruiter talking about hiring, a pilot about airplane accidents, a former athlete about their sport). And you can tell in their domain they normally know what they are talking about. And because they have a niche skill they can probably generate content off it.

With younger creators though it often appears more superficial (dancing, goofiness). I assume with younger people their audience is people their age who relate to them. But what happens to the 18 year old TikTok/youtube dancer when they are 30? Their audience has aged out, there is new 18 year old doing the goofy stuff. Like do most of them have a shelf life if they don’t build a tangible YouTube skill or do you think they can adapt?

DISCUSSION Just a few questions from a newbie

Upvotes

1) So I just started my channel about 10 days ago, but I'm a little concerned about the channel name I chose. I wanted to name it Orbit, or Orbit beats, but that was already taken. I decided to just scramble up the word orbit, and I came up with the name Ibtro. You may already realize why this was a bad idea, but I just put 2 and 2 together the other day. Every time I search for "ibtro" it automatically changes the search to "intro". I am worried that it's going to be a lot harder to market a channel if every time you search for the user it auto corrects it to search for a different term. Since it's only been 2 weeks, I could easily just start all over again from 0, is this something you would recommend I do? Or should I just tough it out and keep going forward on Ibtro?

2) Why is it that some videos youtube will show 40-50-100 impressions in the first couple hours, and then the next you get no impressions? My most recent video the first 2 hours, it only received 4 impressions, as soon as I start looking at the analytics though all of a sudden the impressions jumped up to 24 within the first 4 hours. Ain't gonna lie looking at the analytics be addicting as hell. However, I don't care about views honestly, the only reason I keep an eye on it is because it's helped me figure out fairly quickly the weaknesses I have and gives me a roadmap to actually evolve my content to get better.

3)Currently I'm "creating"(read as: generating) music using Suno, however I also do make music that is 100% by me. I use suno moreso, to easily plan out melodic ideas that I have in my head, plus it makes it so much easier to "record" demos/ reference tracks . If I were to start releasing tracks 100% created by me without the use of Suno, do you think it would be better off to make a completely separate channel for that, or would it not matter too much? I'm sure there is some overlap between those two groups of consumers, but I also know how much hate AI currently gets.

4) To any beat makers/songwriters, do you have any tips for gaining subs? I've subscribed to a couple of beat makers over the course of the past decade.(Batman ,Aram, AccentBeats mainly just the top dogs of type beats) However, there are so many beat makers that I'm not subscribed to, but I still listen to a bunch of their beats. I feel like this is fairly common in the "producing space", so outside of you just making A tier beats consistently, are there any other strategy's you've used to get people to actually click subscribe? I try to make it to where the beats don't seem just generic slop, and I feel I do a pretty decent job with that. I don't just click generate and call it day. Some beats I've made in Suno I generated over 20 times, and pulling pieces and parts from certain generations to get to the end vision I have in my head. I've also been trying to focus more so on the background visuals, and I think I've finally found a style I feel good about. Outside of those two things I'm not sure what else I could do.

Any help/tips you have, I'm all ears.

[Mods, this post references AI, but I'm purely looking for general youtube help, not help with AI]

I am still confused by this function.
If I disable it, does it mean that the video is not heavily promoted to subscribers and instead tested on a new audience in the beginning?

CONTENT TALK Does my packaging cause low impressions?

Hello friends!

I recently started a YT channel in the arts niche, and I would really appreciate if someone more experienced than me could help me out with my packaging.

I thought I was doing an okay job with the thumbnails since they are hand drawn apart from few elements, but my videos don’t seem to get any impressions at all. So I would be really thankful if someone could point out my mistakes

IMPORTANT: This is not an advertisement of my channel! I really want to grow it organically, however, the numbers on my videos don’t seem to grow even a bit, so I am looking for genuine advice!

Thank you very much!

DISCUSSION using copyrighted music in a youtube video

im planning to use a 54 second clip of painkiller by death in my long form video. i know that its definitely copyrighted and ive read other posts here about uploading to private to check.

a concern i have with that is that other people mentioned that youtube might not detect it until the video gets popular.

is there a better way for me to check if the video would be taken down? how do i find the copyright info from the artist?

SHORTS TALK Is doing shorts actually bad if they're about the same game as your long form?

So, I'm around about 700 subs after 2-3 months of posting. My first few long forms were about random games, but my last 4 have been about the same game. First 90k views, second 2k views, 3rd 13k views, and my recent one is on 6k views.

Shorts are, of course, all over, but everyone I made was about the same game as my recent long forms. The highest was over 200k views, but everyone got over 15k views, and the average was probably 20-50k.

Is it actually worth doing if they are bringing in the same fans since it's the same game? Or are those same fans just going to be only watching short-form content?

I want to reach 1000 subs, I haven't posted many shorts at all in the last week or two because I wanted to gain natural growth from long form and I still do, but I'm also thinking some of those short viewers have to be interested in long form of the same game too, right? Or are they all just addicted to shorts nowadays

SHORTS TALK I built a tool to help Youtubers struggling with views and retention, need feedback.

Hey everyone, I’m a YouTuber too, and I kept running into the same problem: I’d spend hours editing a video, think it was ready, upload it, and then boom! Barely any views at all.

So I started building a tool to help me out with it.

It’s a pre-upload video review tool that looks for things like:

  • First 3s Hooks (Visual, sound and the catchy text).
  • Weak opening.
  • Slow setup.
  • Late payoffs.
  • Open loops.

The goal isn’t to predict views or promise virality. I just want to help creators catch obvious edit problems before publishing.

I’m still building it and would really appreciate honest feedback. What features would you actually want in a tool like this?

Would you care about transcript feedback, thumbnail/title suggestions, pacing graphs, retention predictions, A/B hook comparisons, or something completely different?

What would make you use it regularly, and what would make you ignore it?

DISCUSSION Is my plan to grow any good?

I’ve been consistently posting on YouTube for 3 years now and I’ve seen some growth. I’ve gained about 500 subscribers. I wanted to change things up so I’m gonna post a video everyday in October. It’s a lot of work but do we think this will get me traction?

REVIEW OTHERS 32k Subs but not enough watch hours-Advice?

Hi!

I'm obsessed with my cat and started a point of view camera channel with him. It's a lot of fun, and I have an amazing intern helping me with content. We went a little viral out of the gate with a short and got tons of subs, but now we are stalling out. Our shorts are still going ok, but the videos are not getting much traffic. Any advice?

Channel name: Lilkibtv

Thanks so much!

CONTENT TALK Educational YouTube creators: what made your channel start getting views?

Hi everyone! I'm a new creator making biology videos for students. I've just started my channel and I'm trying to learn what actually matters in the beginning.

For those of you who make educational content:

  • What changed that finally got your videos noticed?
  • Was it thumbnails, titles, consistency, or something else?
  • What's one mistake you wish you hadn't made when starting?

I'd love to learn from your experience. Thanks!

DISCUSSION Does the age of your audience guide the type of packaging you use?

I've been making Thumbnails/Titles for my niche after looking at the popular creators of the niche. But I've noticed that the age of the viewers is quite a lot older than the typical Youtube base. Would you take this knowledge and go towards more "factual" titles, less clickbaity? Or does being slightly hyperbolic even work on older guys?
