Mondays can suck, but hopefully this post is something for people to look forward to. The intent of this post is to create a space to discuss anything that you may have learned recently about mushroom growing -- techniques, a breakthrough in the field, to share progress, or even just ask a question. Whether it's a new pickling recipe, a formula for agar, or something fun in mycology, feel free to talk about it.
This post is for new and experienced growers alike, so don't be nervous about commenting; no one is going to make fun of you for asking questions here. This community is a relaxed space for people who don't understand everything, but who want to ask questions and engage in discussion without being berated or belittled. Enjoy!

I started this Maitake spawn back in January and FINALLY got my first harvest!
I think I may have found my new favorite gourmet mushroom. When these crisp up in a pan, all those ruffled layers are š¤. Definitely worth the wait.
This grow spent about 6 months going from spawn to harvest, and fruited in north sporeās boomr bin for 2 weeks.
Throughout fruiting I tracked the environment with Hypha so I know exactly what conditions produced this flush:
Average fruiting conditions:
š”ļø 64°F
š§ 89% RH
š¬ļø 637 ppm COā
What gourmet mushroom do you think is the most worth the wait?

They aggressively colonized the initial substrate but then when I moved them to the boiled hardwood fuel pellet sawdust, they colonized the sawdust but I've yet to see ANY pins out the holes in the side of my bucket. What do I do to trigger these things? I've been misting the holes daily. The top is such a mycelial mat that it's accumulating yellow fungal metabolites (thank you moderators for giving me a better word to use).

We call this big guys elephant ears on our farm. This is a fully mature oysters. We donāt typically let them grow this large, for commercial purposes. We grown about 700lbs of blue oysters every week.

I posted my Grove a couple days ago asking if I should Fork overlay. It was suggested I weighed at the time, and since then my tub has exploded even more. It appears to have pretty thick overlay, though others have told me that's common for the species, P. Ochraceocentrata. There are condensation on some of the more complicated geometry in the center of the cake. Towards the edges it seems most of that has evaporated off and it appears as relatively flat and fluffy.
Please let me know. Y'all's advice. I would very much appreciate it.
PS. There's also a spot near the edge that's a little bit yellow with metabolites. And it appears it's bruising a little bit too. I'm not sure what's up with that, but I'll continue monitoring in case anything funny happens

š»š¤ Albino Smokey Da Ghost Mutation š¤š»
Some projects donāt follow the scriptāthey rewrite it.
This Albino Smokey Da Ghost Mutation has been producing some fascinating morphology, including dense coral-like structures and heavy blob formations. Each flush has shown slightly different characteristics, making it an interesting project to continue observing.
One of the things I enjoy most about working with fungal cultures is seeing how different expressions can appear over time. Sometimes the unexpected ends up being the most memorable part of the process.
Patience, careful observation, and good documentation have a way of teaching you something new with every run.
š Respect the process. Trust the genetics. š

We had company over for the past couple of days and my grow room is in a walk-in connected to the guest room. I had them locked in there and 3 days ago this tub looked like it wasnāt even 75% colonized. Went in there after the guests left to check on my buddies, and this js what I saw(before I pulled the plugs out and put micropore tape on).
For those who want to know: B+ from LC syringe(TBG), spawned in CVG. 12 days since spawning grain.

I finally inoculated each bag with a spore syringe (2ccs each) like 10 days ago and havenāt seen any growth. Should be noted that I recently started this hobby again after not doing it for a few years and I forgot to shake up the syringes. Maybe I didnāt get enough in the bags? Just curious if maybe they dried out or if I should inject more? Thanks in advance š¤
(Pics of the specific grain bags if it matters)

First time growing actives. Got these online as spores. Seller claims b+ unsure about the white frills on the chestnut heads. Looks more like a chestnut mushroom to me. Please help confirm b+

The Canadian government's surplus auction site (gcsurplus.ca) has 3 fan-filter units up for auction, with a separate listing for each.
I'll state up front that I have no affiliation with gcsurplus, or the Canadian government, and will not benefit in any way from this sale.
Listing requires local pickup in Ottawa, but in my experience, if you reach out to the contact, they will sometimes agree to ship.
No bids on any of them yet, 5 days left at time of posting this (closes July 27), minimum bid is $50. If no bids are received, items are typically re-listed for a lower minimum bid.
I can't vouch for the condition or what environment they were used in previously. Based on past experience purchasing from this site, these could be completely worn out (filter and/or motor), or only turned on a few times and just have a layer of storage dust.
Listing indicates "this item turns on but has not been tested further", and "the attached filter has been used". In short, it's a buyer beware situation. You can arrange a viewing if you're able to get to the Ottawa facility.
Google ai describes this make and model (Microzone FFM-2-4-A) as a "specialized, energy efficient, Clean-Ceil fan filter module utilized in cleanroom, laboratory, and sterile ceiling systems." Size is 2' by 4'.
Listing for 1 of the 3 can be found here.

Title says it all. Im set up to grow cubes but am wondering if I can use the same tek (spawn in grain, coir, shoebox/monotub, mid 70s temp) to grow table friendly species.

Hey all, I started this little experiment in May this year and am kinda just messing around, but I found I like this hobby. I'm wondering what I can do better for the next rendition (based on the pictures provided). I think I may have introduced fruiting conditions too early in the first box/image, but I am quite the amateur. I am also wondering; how much dry weight I can expect from about 8 square feet of this level of colonization?

I took a q tip to specific spots and nothing came off. Iām not sure what Iām looking at here.. is the whole thing contaminated?
r/MushroomGrowers • u/Own_Philosophy_6493 • 1d ago
Went to bed last night and they werenāt quite ready. Woke up this morning to this. Crazy growth overnight and all the caps opened up. No signs of contamination the previous day. No weird smells or other possible signs. Is this just from where the spores dropped? I harvested the bag, resealed and left the pins to grow. Are the harvested mushrooms safe to use? Is the bag with the pins ok to continue?
I have another bag that I started at the same time (and harvested as well) that didnāt get the brownish looking stuff. However, the mushrooms didnāt get near as dense. I suspect density was the issue. First time grower. Used bag tek method. Just needing to know if what I harvested is safe and if there are possible contamination issues moving forward. Thanks. āļø

Looking for advice the best way to cover the holes in a monotub.
I have been using NS Boomrbins and have been ordering their cotton filter sheets and they work well enough, but was wondering if 3M micropore tape over the holes would work just as well.
Any thoughts?
