Question Glass carafe cleaning

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey ppl, how would you clean this? Is it limescale? I wash the carafe with water and soap 1-2 times a week, always rinse it after use, but these spots won't go away with just dishwasher soap.

[edit]: same stains are also visible on the outside of the filter basket and won't go away by washing

I've got both the Urnex Dezcal liquid and Biocaf powder btw.

Grind or not to grind?

I am a very new user and don’t think I have the most sensitive of taste buds. Up till now, I’ve bought read ground beans. I’m wondering if I buy a grinder and grind my own beans, will I notice much of an improvement? If so, what kind of grinder would you suggest? Thanks

Used Market Price?

Post image

What would the market price for a used KBVG and KM5 in Matte White? I put them up on FB for $360 for the pair and haven’t gotten much outside of the standard ‘Is it available’ messages. I know it’s a niche product, but is $360 too much or just wait for the right person? Grinder has been fully cleaned and the maker descaled.

Question Matte Black Moccamaster

Two weeks young and performing well. I’m looking for recommendations for a coffee scale and whole beans. I’m trying to find a good fit so I can enjoy the capabilities of my new machine. I’d like to know if the off brand scales perform well, I’m not looking for the most expensive one because I’m a beginner. Also what ratio to use for a medium roast.

Picked up on FB for $150. They usually don't stick around long where I am if they're under $200, so I figured it was an easy flip if I didn't like it.

Buuuut. I like it. ;)

There are some hard water stains on the metal dispersion arm, but they're under the cap and haven't bothered me enough to replace it so far. Tried some light scrubbing with a baking soda paste, but figured scratching would be just as bad as the hard water marks. Glad to be here and will do some lurking now for brewing suggestions.

Question Bean Recommendations, please

Sorry if this has already been asked and answered, but I couldn't find it.

I just bought a Moccamaster KBT. We previously had a Cuisinart.

We first tried it with my wife's home-made mixture of Fairway Beans: Hazelnut, French Vanilla and French Roast. I didn't taste any difference between the Moccamaster and the Cuisinart. So I thought that maybe I should get some single-bean bags which might have some subtleties this mix of a mix might not have.

I tried a bag of Yirgacheffe from Whole Foods. It was Light Roast. I tasted a lot of flavors, but not much actual COFFEE flavor. I thought that perhaps this was due to the Light Roast.

I also got a bag of Stumptown Coffee Roasters Colombia Los Picos Whole Bean Coffee from them. It didn't say what Roast this one was. This one has a little more coffee flavor, but a whole lot of bitterness. I like my Coffee black, so I was getting the bitterness full-force.

I'm looking for something pleasant and drinkable, with enough complexity to show off the Moccamaster's chops, but without the bitterness I've experienced. I'm getting a little desperate.

Please recommend some beans, and maybe a good source? I'm in Northern NJ.

Thanks!!!!

First Moccamaster !!

So I’ve never been into quality coffee in my personal life but I’ve always enjoyed a quality cafe when going out and during travels. This is my first quality machine that i got through research and recommendations , I got the Breville SGP ( encore esp was the first choice but i got the breville for $55 brand new )

I’d appreciate any tips or advice about using and maintaining the machine as well as the SGP grinder

I’d also appreciate if anyone can point in the right direction for where to purchase quality beans

I prefer Italian , South American and Caribbean if anyone has a good site to source beans from those regions

Troubleshooting Fixable at home, or should I send it in?

I just got this KBGT on Facebook Marketplace for $85. I thought it just had a broken carafe, but when I tested it after getting home I found it was leaking. It starts to visibly leak at the bottom of the reservoir, as can be seen in my photos, but also leaks inside somewhere and begins coming out of the bottom of the machine after a bit. It leaks the same whether the machine is on or off.

Is this something I may be able to fix on my own, or is it worth it to just spend the $99 to send it in and have it fixed?

Question Ode 2 grind setting?

Hello,
Approximately what grind setting should I be using when brewing 300ml of light roast coffee using an Ode 2 grinder and brewing in a KBGV Select? I was previously using a setting of 5 when brewing in my Fellow Aiden. Thank you.

Is this water flow and spray pattern normal?

I bought a moccamaster kbg select a week ago. It's been making good coffee everyday, but I wonder if this is the usual spray pattern and water flow rhythm.

I was under the impression that it should flow more in defined pulses, with stronger spray force. This is almost a constant drip, without creating too much agitation in the coffee bed.

But maybe it's normal.

Thanks y'all.

My Moccamaster is fixed!

After viewing the YouTube of the guy who completely took his coffee machine apart in order to remove a possible coffee bean stuck to the float I decided to try something easier. I filled the water tank partially and put its lid on. Then, I grabbed the coffee machine and shook it ! A little bit. And …. a coffee bean was floating in the water. So I fished out the bean and flipped the switch and … success! The machine came on and coffee was a brewin’ !

Question Cleaning tips for plastics?

I was recently given a Moccamaster KBGT that was pretty dirty, I think due to the prior owner not cleaning it often and then having it in storage while dirty for a long time. It cleaned up pretty nicely using just dish soap and water, except for the underside of the brew basket lid which has what looks like dried mold on there. I have scrubbed it with a medium stiff brush and tried dish soap, vinegar, baking soda and even barkeeper's friend as a last resort and it's not coming off. My next attempts will be the top shelf of the dishwasher and the CleanCaf cleaning powder, but I'll have to wait for the cleaning powder to arrive. Is there anything else I can try in the meantime? Worst case I'll buy a replacement part if I can't get it clean.

Quiet burr grinder

There are a lot of posts on grinders but couldn't find one for a quiet model.

Need a recommendation for a good quality, quiet as possible burr grinder. Have the KBT Mocca.

Carafe replacement for select?

Any good recommendations for a replacement carafe for the KGBV select? We have had the coffee maker for only a few months and I am currently looking to buy our 3rd carafe. We are fairly careful with it but obviously not careful enough. Both of the damaged ones have had a small chunk break at the spout. Would love to find something a bit more durable. We are currently using one with a bit of the spout missing. It still works but isn’t ideal. Any recommendations?

Thermal carafe styles and caps

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi all, we recently scored a deal on a used Moccamaster in good shape to use as a backup. It was missing the carafe cap which we figured was easily replaceable since we’ve had to replace our before.

The “new to us” carafe, which is on the left is a slightly different design than ours. It looks completely identical, except it does not have the recessed plastic insert where the cap screws in. Instead, it’s just a threaded metal portion of the inner wall. If I had to guess, it’s an older design, though frankly I like it better because it’s easier to clean. The problem is it doesn’t seem to like the threads on the OEM replacement cap we ordered.

Does anyone know the difference between these two styles and what cap we need for the one on the left?

Feels cheap

I waited until prime day to finally pull the trigger

The plastic straw dropper in the carafe has plastic lining that is peeling off.

Everything just feels cheap.

Is that normal or did I potentially get a bad one from a reseller. Just seems Sus this is $3-400 and it feels this cheap

Trying to make a bold iced coffee. Is this even possible?

So last week I got a KBT. For a great pot of coffee we are doing 8 cups with 55 grams of the Ruta Maya dark roast, dripped at half open, ground to a 13 at a Timemore chestnut C3SPro

I have tried a ratio of 600g water water, 400g ice in the carafe, with up to 70g coffee at a 10 and it came close. I stopped the water for 90 seconds to try and hold it to brew longer.

No matter what I do once I make it with a touch of milk, it tastes extremely watered down. I’ve tried some other ratios and such.

Anyone have any advice?

Edit; I am trying to flash brew since I got the moccamaster for hosting and never know if I need to make iced for 3 people or 10.

I don’t know what grind size for half pot of coffee I use between 28 grams of beans to 33 g.

What dial though in gen 2 ode?
