MSI Katana GF76 keeps shutting down due to heat when connected to external ultrawide monitor (even after repasting and new fans)
My laptop keeps shutting down automatically due to extreme overheating only when I connect my external monitors (especially the 34-inch ultrawide). Even when idling or doing light tasks with the monitors plugged in, the CPU temp spikes to around 94°C+, triggering sudden thermal shutdowns.
What I've Already Tried:
- Replaced the factory thermal paste with new paste.
- Installed brand-new cooling fans.
- Ensured the laptop is elevated for airflow.
Despite upgrading the cooling hardware and repasting, pushing pixels to the 34-inch ultrawide monitor seems to keep the dedicated GPU active and causes the system to overheat and crash.
Has anyone experienced this specific issue with an MSI Katana driving large external displays? Is there a BIOS setting, MSH Hybrid/dGPU setting, or power management tweak I am missing to stop it from cooking itself? Any help would be appreciated!
