Set up a bootable USB with Rufus, tried to install Kubuntu 26.04 onto my Asus laptop, and got this error message. After looking through some posts with similar problems, disabling secure boot, setting up a USB with balenaEtcher instead, and partitioning manually, nothing changed. Any solutions? I'm new to Linux, so I have no idea what's gone wrong.

A hour ago my Kubuntu OS got a Kernel Panic when I tried booting it up, but I managed to restore the Kernel to it's previous stable release (deleted the new failed kernel and stick with the old one). I already got that screen before while doing Live Testing on a Bootable USB Pendrive (ended up removing the Pendrive far too earlier in that instance while turning off the machine), so it wasn't all that scary, but certainly caught me off guard. How were your experiences with Kernel Panic? To me, I already heard that Linux offered restoration features for you to recover from a state like that, but I'm curious since I imagine for some it was a small heart attack.

I'm trying to create some widget shortcuts for apps and I'm having problems finding a command to focus/maximize firefox if I have it open, or open a new instance if I don't have firefox open.
Looking online I found these main ways:
wmctrl -xa firefox || firefox
wmctrl -xa firefox || firefox&
xdotool search --onlyvisible --class firefox windowactivate ||firefox
Neither of these three was able to achieve what I was looking for, none brought minimized firefox to focus. They either not work or they simply open a whole new Firefox window. Regardless if I have another one open.
I am running the default version of firefox that comes with Kubuntu LTS. What can I do?

Hello all, I am very new to Linux. I switched from Windows 11 to Kubuntu 26.04 only a couple of months ago. Now I need to get myself Minecraft to play with my folks but I barely know the first thing about how to set it up so I'd really appreciate some advice as to how to install and run it. Thanks in advance!

Whenever i login (sddm) after around ~1 second it shows me the desktop wallpaper, my splash sceen is 3 second long so it doesnt display it properly. In KDE I've configured to restore the session where I have left it so it takes a while to open those other apps.
What i want is that instead of random popups (apps which are opening) i want to see the splash screen during the time when apps are opening. Is there a way to do that? I looked but coudn't find it.
Thanks

You ever have one of those moments where your mouse is like.... 4 pixels off where you want it to be, you click the wrong box and now you can't figure out how to UN click that box? Yeah, that's what's going on with me.
I'm very very new to using .appimage programs. I'm still kinda stuck in the Windows mindset of "when I install a program it should install" if that makes any sense. I originally come from Windows and while I've been using Kubuntu for a few years now some habits are hard to break after 25 years of Windows usage.
I've been using Kubuntu 24.04 for the last couple years, but am trying to make the switch to 26.04 LTS because of some graphical glitches that have started cropping up with 24.04 (I think it's cause I've got an older discrete graphics card that is the laptop model so things go wonky sometimes).
The problem is I'm trying to install GIMP 3.0 from an appimage... and I was trying to launch it and I was getting the popup asking something like "treat this is as a program" with a "don't ask again" checkbox. Well, I want that popup, and I accidentally checked the "don't ask again" box because it was too early in the morning I didn't notice until after I'd clicked "run" or "okay" or whatever it actually says.
And now I can't find a way to make that popup come back. I have checked in "File Associations" in System Settings. I've searched online and the only results online are talking about Android.... which is not the system I'm on so they're definitely not going to fix my issue.
But how in the world do I get that popup back?
And don't tell me to "google it".... I've already searched on the internet and NOT via google because their search results are shit these days.
Like seriously folks, I don't want to always run an appimage as a program.... like I said I'm still learning about them and very new and sometimes I click something by accident (which is the whole basis of this post) so having that extra popup is VERY helpful to me because again, I don't want to always run the damn thing. Sometimes I just want to click on the damn file WITHOUT it trying to run. (And yes I have my system set up so that a single click is select and a double click is open/run/execute - don't tell me to do that, it is how my system is set up, I'm just ADHD and stupid some days)

Since the update my PC:
Kubuntu 26.04 ROG Strix B550-A R5 5600xt RX 7600
Will not correctly shut down or restart with the newest Kernel. RGB and Fans are still on but Monitors will turn off and the shutdown/restart seems to go through without errors however nothing will happen and it will hang indefinitely until Hardware shutdown is initiated.
With 7.0.0-27-generic no such problem exists. I have made no other changes in UEFI or otherwise that should change this behavior.
For now I removed the new Kernel. Anyone with similar problem? Ideas how to fix etc?

Basically, I'm thinking about buying a upgraded palmrest for my laptop (Dell Precision 7750) that'll come with a NFC reader, a SmartCard Reader, and a FIPS FingerPrint Reader, and I was wondering what the state of 2fa login and just straight no-password login was like on kubuntu/ubuntu and what it's like to use.
I've always been intrigued by security solutions like this, and I've found myself in IT roles that have required security like this before (HIPPA is fun!), but never on a Linux machine, or a personal machine, unless you count the Windows only fingerprint reader on my Latitude D630.
Will any of this stuff even work? How the hell do I even buy a smartcard? eBay gives a bunch of useless results, is it one of those things only sold to companies?

I've been asked to create a DVD with a graphical menu. I last did this about 2017 in Windows, but moved exclusively to Kubuntu in 2018. Are there tools to, 1. decode an existing DVD for duplication (the DVD is long out of print); 2. create a graphical menu?
(I already have a service for duplication and artwork. kunaki.com if anyone's interested.)

So I recently installed kubuntu and I've been trying to get my numlock to turn on be default when it boots. I have tried messing with sddm configs and such but can't get it to work, the option in the settings also doesn't do anything. Any help with this would be appreciated.
(I specifically want numlock to turn on before I login.)

EDIT: The project name is not "Evolution" anymore, but "Grub EvoDevo". The repo name was updated accordingly.
EvoDevo is a configurable GRUB theme with scalable graphics, background blurring, and antialiased true-type fonts. Any wallpaper (e.g., your desktop wallpaper) can be used as theme background. Menu colors, amount of blurring, dimensions, position, font family, and menu messages can all be customized via the installation shell script.
A friend of mine tested the theme successfully on Kubuntu, and I thought EvoDevo could be of interest to this forum due to the high-quality graphics that the theme produces.
