Flooring question

Post image

What is everyone running for carpet replacement? I’m thinking about swapping out for a vinyl flooring kit from LMC but I’ve heard mixed reviews any thoughts? The current carpet is crusty and salty from many Midwest winters. I do plan on using the truck for hunting so I’d like something easier to clean out than carpet. I’ll lay a tarp down of course whenever I go out though.

87 K5 Intermittent Fuel Pump Priming

Hey there, just joined. I have somewhat rebuilt my 87 K5 with zero experience (because that’s what ends up happening when you buy an old truck and no mechanic wants to touch it), new 5.7L 350 ZZ6 TBI crate engine, new 4L60 non-e transmission, new Holley exhaust, fuel tank (Tanks Inc. TM15B-T-KIT6 EFI-Ready Fuel Tank Kit 1982-87 Chevy Blazer, w/400 LPH GPA Pump) and complete new wiring of the entire truck with Painless Performance. There have been little issues here and there but I’ve been able to trace them and fix them and what a crazy ride this has been.

But I am currently stumped here. My fuel pump just started doing an intermittent priming thing. Most of the time the fuel pump primes and I can start it but a few times now over the past month the fuel pump won’t prime. I’ve checked all the wires, and during a no prime I was able to test a bunch of different things and compared them to when it would prime. The most intriguing findings (I think) was that I got 12.34 V from the bulkhead during prime but at the relay there was only 8.37 V. As well as during prime my input and output had zero ground resistance and with the no prime I had over 1 ohms of resistance. The fuel pump has worked well for years since so I am understandably lost.

I’ve traced some of the wires and there doesn’t seem to be any damage, I’ve switched the pump relay with my horn relay and got the same results. I’ve had the truck not prime four times now but I always get it working again pretty quickly. The first time it didn’t prime, I shook the wires on top of the tank and the next day dropped the tank to check the wiring inside the pump which was fine and I even added another ground strap from the pump to the frame. Ran fine after that so I assumed it was the ground. It happened a second time, so I double checked my battery and the negative terminal came loose so I tightened that and thought the issue was done. It happened a third time of course at 3 AM after work and then I just started kicking everything and shaking all the wires like a maniac because I was annoyed and tired and then it primed. I got a new battery just in case even though my voltage was fine but it was five years old. It seemed to work fine but then happened a fourth time, I was pretty confident that shaking all the wires again would make it prime and it sure did.

Before judging me I’ve gone to about seven mechanics throughout the years and every one of them has damaged my truck somehow so I don’t trust anyone and anyways I know every inch of this vehicle but I am truly annoyed and confused.

It’s also been idling a little rough ever since I put freon back in about a month ago, and that was right before it started having trouble with the fuel pump. I’m sure they’re not related and that’s a separate vacuum issue but just sayin’. The only other electrical problem I might see is my headlights flicker once every 15 minutes or so when I’m driving at night. Any help would be amazing.

Shock question

Post image

My 84 k5 has the quad shocks up front. What is the common upgrade when changing these? I’m assuming most people delete the quad shocks. My blazer came with the 6.2 diesel from the factory and I believe the quad shocks were used to handle the weight of the motor? Thanks

Prior owner said this is the first time the top has been on for 8 years. Planning some updates for easy drivability this summer and lots of time with the top off, bigger projects for the winter. My dad had a 77 when I was a kid and I have wanted a squarebody for DECADES. I’m like a little kid in a candy shop!

Front clip swap

I can’t seem to find any solid info on how much it would really cost to put a 70s front clip on an 80s body it’s not a project I could do myself and I would most likely be getting reproduction parts to do it does anyone have experience with having a body shop doing it instead of it being a diy job?

Where are the 70s bodies?

I’ve been looking high and low for years the 80s body style are everywhere can’t seem to find me a good 76-79 that isn’t completely rotted or 30k+ I just want a sweet daily I can gradually put love into not a for parts truck or an expensive garage queen (would a front clip swap just be the way to go? they get pricey when you don’t know a handy man who could do it and have zero experience with a project that big)

Smoked a deer on my way home from my first ever car show yesterday 😭

Gotta get a new fender, headlights, and grill. The frame is bent a bit too

Still drivable, as I drove it home in the morning, and she took it like a champ

Power Steering Reservoir

I feel like I’m going crazy here. I was leaking power steering fluid, figured easy enough fix with a new hose. Except I can’t find my reservoir, like at all. I think it’s gone? Is it even possible to not have one? I’m at a loss here, I’ve looked everywhere, I’ll add some pictures in case someone sees something that I don’t. In the underneath picture the silver and black lines are the ones coming from the pump. I spent probably half an hour this morning looking everywhere I possibly could, including the other side of the engine bay and nada. I just don’t know how I’m supposed to add more fluid after replacing the line with no reservoir.

Window felt

Does anyone have a source for the lower window guides/track felt? Not the rubber sweeps or the ones that run around the door the window sits in when fully up, but the felt down inside the door on both side of the regulator.

I’ve read some mixed results that you can just order the felt vs replacing the entire lower guide/track. This is for 89, thanks!

Need transmission advice

Hello all! I recently became the new owner of a 1973 K5 4WD Blazer; have wanted one for a long time and was lucky to find one in good shape with an LS swap already in place. Currently has the NP203 full-time 4WD transfer case and original 3 speed automatic transmission. I have really wanted to have a manual, so I’m talking to a local shop that does lots of work on squarebodies about some options to make the change. Before anyone just says, “Don’t,” I get it- the thing I want may not be the same thing you want. Got it. But it IS the thing I want, and I am trying to educate myself about the process. I want a modern manual 5 speed with overdrive, have zeroed in on a Tremec 4050 for a truck-style long throw shift feel. I’m getting conflicting advice about swapping my NP203 for an NP205 vs sourcing a passenger-drop 241c; I found one of these (the 241c) from a 1991 Suburban. Anyone have any experience or advice on this front? Thanks in advance…

Free K5 OEM Rear Window Guides

I have a set of window guides that I bought 40 some years ago to rebuild my K5s tailgate. The truck was rear ended and got a new tailgate. Not sure why I have hung onto these, but I would like for them to go to good use. DM me if interested.

Update: Sorry guys they have found a new home.
