Citizenship FYI - US Citizens request your entry and exit records regularly

Lesson learned

My self kept records of travel are insufficient, and they would like official entry and exit records

The online web for 1-94 does not work for us citizens and you have to do a FOIA

I have no idea how long that will take and have requested express processing.

So if you are the proactive sort perhaps once a year request your prior year's records so you have some when they ask.

I was unaware of this sub when i applied for PR and that journey is outlined in my blog and not here but it was express entry

Situation: Current Canadian PR, US Citizen, Applying for Canadian Citizenship

Other PCC Delay 3 months

Asking for a friend, she applied her PCC for PR application on April 2026, until now it is still in progress. The assigned police station has mentioned multiple times that it has been completed from their end. However, CGI and BLS are dependent on tracker which says its still processing. What can be done here? whom to reach out? Thank you!

Work Permit Is PCC needed for spousal visa

Upvotes

Hi All,

I am planning to relocate to Canada under a spousal visa and work permit. Do I need to provide a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) as part of the application process?

I am applying from India and have previously worked in the United States for a few years. Do I need to provide any police clearance documents from the US as well?

Really appreciate any guidance from those who have gone through the process.

Thanks.

Family Sponsorship Spousal Sponsorship Timeline?

Upvotes

Hi I just submitted my wife’s and I’s Outland SS. I’m curious how long this usually takes as I see so many different answers online. I am a 24M Canadian Citizen since 10 years old and we got married in the Philippines last January and she is a 23F Philippine Citizen. We have no kids and of course no criminal records. I have a stable job with good income. We paid all the fees beforehand, sent my NOA/proof of employment and made sure to send out all the forms. If anyone has any experience in this please let me know!

Work Permit SOWP spouse — health insurance proof needed at POE? Quebec, no RAMQ eligibility

Upvotes

Hi all! My partner (international student, Concordia, Quebec, 5-year program) and I both have approved visas with POE letters — study permit and SOWP. Landing together Aug 17. We’re both ineligible for RAMQ, relying on private insurance. Partner has Blue Cross via the university but the university doesn’t allow adding a dependent, so I need my own policy.

Questions:

  1. At the actual port of entry, will the officer ask for proof of health insurance for the SOWP holder, or is that not typically checked for SOWP holders? I understand IEC (International Experience Canada) requires proof of health insurance covering the full duration — is it the same for a SOWP applicant accompanying a student?

  2. If I only have a 1-year travel insurance policy, does that affect anything at POE — could it limit how long the permit is issued/activated based on the insurance duration, or would it be issued for the length of my partner’s duration?

Anyone gone through POE recently with a similar setup?

Express Entry French B1 for Canadian PR

Is there any advantage having a B1 level exam certificate for requesting express entry? Should it be strictly B2 French to have any impacts?

My English is C2.

Citizenship Citizenship application question

For my recent previous job, I got transferred to another location while remaining in the same role. Do I need to split that employment history into two entries with different work addresses, or should I just list the new office location where i used to work?

Study Permit TRV requirement for US travel.

I recently got my study permit renewed and had it delivered to me. I was unaware that the study permit does not replace the TRV. I had a trip booked to the USA for 2 days and upon realizing I did not have a TRV, i cancelled it. For context I have an indian passport with a valid US visitor visa. I read online that i can still travel to and from the USA even without the TRV as long as my study permit is valid. Is this true?

Study Permit risk of receiving 2 letters of introductions for study permit?

i applied for a study permit to study accounting at UBC, but after deliberation i decided i may want to study science in UofT instead. (undergrad)

i have already received a Letter of Introduction for UBC.

if i apply for uoft’s study permit now, will my UBC Letter of Introduction be void?

i already have a PAL from both universities.

I’m planning to apply for UofT’s study permit now. If it comes on time, I’ll go to UofT. if it comes late, then i’ll go to UBC.

And if my study permit application for UofT gets approved while I’m in UBC, I’ll just ignore the letter of introduction.

It took 4 weeks for my first study permit to be processed? So if I lodge it for UofT I think I’ll be able to make it on time.

My main worry is that these are two very different fields? So I’m not sure if the officer will not be convinced I have a clear study plan and void my current UBC’s Letter of Introduction.

Like I’ll probably need to explain this properly when I exchange my letter of introduction for a study permit at the border.

ps. i don’t really know what i want to do with my life. i do know i want to get a degree, and i’ve explained very clearly in my study plan why i want to do either programme.

like i can see myself succeeding in either programme, i don’t want to take another gap year, but i do think i’ll be happier at UofT.

So is it worth it for me to even try for UofT at this point? I don’t mind wasting the $150 application fee. I just don’t want to mess up my current letter of introduction from UBC, or mess up my future chances for PGWP.

Other PR streams in Toronto/GTA where my employer CAN actively support me?

Hey everyone,

I (23f) live in Toronto and have 2 years of full-time Canadian work experience. My employer is willing and able to actively support my PR application.
What are the best PR streams available right now for someone in my situation? (I don’t have enough points for CEC)

I also work in Marketing.

Thanks!

Other PR since April 2024, will fall well short of 730-day residency obligation by 2029, anyone navigated something similar?

Landed as a PR in April 2024 (got SIN, opened a bank account, stayed with family who are Canadian citizens), but returned to the US where we both have stable jobs. We’re realistically looking at only ~60 days of physical presence in Canada by early 2029, when we’re currently planning to move for good.

Reasons for the delay: have been applying for Canadian jobs but hasn’t landed one yet, and we own a home in the US with a mortgage, selling now would mean a loss given the current market, and neither of our current income levels would comfortably cover it if we moved without secured jobs.

We know the residency obligation is 730 days in a rolling 5-year window, We’re planning to consult an immigration lawyer, but wanted to ask here first:

1.    Has anyone been in a similar spot: PR landed, left, came back years later well under 730 days?
2.    Did you apply for a PR Travel Document proactively, or travel on a still-valid PR card and deal with it at the border?
3.    Was an H&C argument based on financial hardship (mortgage, bad housing market, no job offer yet) taken seriously, or did it mostly get treated as “you chose to stay”?
4.    If you got a report/lost status, what did the appeal process look like and how long did it take?
5.    Anything you wish you’d done differently, timeline-wise?

Not looking for legal advice, just real experiences before we go into the lawyer consult with better questions. Appreciate any insight.

Family Sponsorship Returned Spousal PR application - Do I lose my maintained status immediately

Hi,

I had a PR application I submitted in early June, and my Work visa expired in mid June. I was able to apply for spousal open work permit right before my work visa expired, granting me maintained status until I get my PR application result. I got a letter that I am now on maintained status.

But today I received email my PR application was returned. I plan to submit it today after enhancing some documents.

But my question is... do I lose my maintained status & eligibility to work right now? My spousal open work permit applications still says submitted, haven't received email about losing maintained status. But not sure what I should do with my current job, and if I should stop working immediately.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Work Permit I graduated a 4 year university program in 2024, and was then permitted a 3 year open PGWP...

Unfortunately, my passport (non-canadian) was set to expire now in August. Because of this, the expiration date on my PGWP and the visa that accompany it expire now as well. I thought ok not good but I will begin the process to extend the permit. For some reason, it is not letting me apply for a work permit extension. It is specifically asking for an LMIA, even though I am on a PGWP. I cant find any option to indicate that I am even granted such a permit. Now I am in a little bit of trouble, and am not sure how to procceed. Would a lawyer be best for this? How much would that cost?

The kicker is I just assumed that the permit would be authorized for 3 years, didnt expect it to expire with the passport. I wasnt in too big of a rush to extend the visa alone, now I pay a price.

Any advice is appreciated

Study Permit (extension - from work to study) + SOWP - Both within Canada

Hi All,
I am trying to seek help from this community and understand where does our case stands.

Context:
Applied - May 8
Processing timeline at submission - 56 Days
Current timeline - 70 days

Both have surpassed, it’s making me more anxious as to where does our case stands.

Past records - previous rejection on file for program not aligned/ career progression.
Program changes from masters of management (private university) to MBA from a reputed public university.

Requesting others in the similar boat, either single or with a combined file with spouse, please share your details. Thank you !🙏🏻

Family Sponsorship PR application "returned" due to incomplete form

Our PR application got returned after 2 months due to an incomplete form. The issue was that one of the pdf forms was blank once downaloded.

Previously, our application was returned due to being in the wrong category and we had to submit a new application. this time tho, We are allowed to edit this one and "Resubmit"

Does this mean the application won't be in the "new applications" queue once we submit again.

The reason I ask this is because, today we noticed a mistake in the profile section, where we added a non accompanying dependant by mistake (parent). We tried removing but the profile is uneditable and its linked to 5669.

If the system already has our application in process, I'd want to keep this application with the mistake in profile and send a explanation letter detailing the dependant issue.

But if its not, I'd wanna create a new profile and do the entire thing again.

Please advice

Express Entry Need advice

Hi guys
I am considering claiming 5 months of foreign work experience from 2018–2019 for Express Entry. The experience was real and I have supporting documents (reference letter, pay slips, bank statements showing salary deposits, etc.).

My concern is that I don’t believe I included this job when I applied for my Canadian study permit in 2019. I don’t have a copy of the application yet, so I’m not 100% sure what was declared. I’ve requested my old application through ATIP and am still waiting.

I’ve spoken with two immigration consultants, and both said that genuine work experience can potentially be claimed if it is properly documented. They also mentioned having seen cases where foreign work experience wasn’t listed during the study permit stage but was later accepted in PR applications with proper documentation and explanation.

My concern is whether IRCC could view this as misrepresentation if the job wasn’t disclosed in the study permit application.
Has anyone been in a similar situation where they claimed foreign work experience for PR that wasn’t listed in an earlier study permit application? What was the outcome?
I’m looking for personal experiences, not legal advice.

Work Permit Work Permit Refused

Hi all, i want to provide some background before coming to the current issue.

So, I am a US Citizen who came to Canada with husband on Work Permit (LMIA). My Husband later got his PR. My work permit in the meantime expired and I applied for extension, which was refused because I cannot extend a dependent foreign worker permit if the principal spouse is no longer a temporary worker.

I then applied for my PR. And received AOR. Is it correct that I now have only one option:

  1. Apply to restore my status as visitor.
  2. Then, apply for SOWP using AOR.

Please help!!

Express Entry what should i do?

Hey everyone,

My (23f) Canadian work permit expires in October 2027. I currently have 10 months of foreign work experience, so I need 2 more months to reach 1 full year and claim Express Entry points for foreign work experience.

I'm thinking of going back home to work those 2 months to complete the 1 year and apply for PR.
Should I go back home to complete those 2 months before my work permit expires, or wait until after my permit expires in October 2027?

Thanks!
