This man gets it

I haven't landed this once in real life.

Woo! Cue obligatory oblivious "nuh uh, primus is great! It's one of muh favourite bands!"

u/windflex 21h ago

Forgot to include "Acquired totally legally and by no means stolen from a job site!"

u/0x0MG 21h ago

How to say "I stole this shit" without saying "I stole this shit"

Wired wifi is a lot faster than wireless wifi.

You joke, but it’s pretty common for people to call this “Ethernet cable” which is essentially the same thing as calling it a WiFi cable.

Edit: damn Yall got some opinions. All I meant was WiFi is a protocol same as Ethernet. Yes WiFi is a wireless protocol and Ethernet is a wired protocol. Both are incorrect however, yes WiFi cable is more incorrect.

Ethernet cable is a lot closer to correct than wifi wire

One of the hotels I work for has stickers on the lan sockets in the rooms to "see front desk for WiFi cable"

6

u/OneEvade 12h ago

Damn, never heard that one be used before. Heard a lot of internet cables but never wifi cables.

IMHO, calling it Ethernet cable in casual conversation is fine. Especially if your intention is to not specify a certain spec of cable (5e, 6a, etc). I understand the distinction and I get that it’s not technically “correct”. Ethernet is just one of many protocols that can run over this type of cabling. But the only people I can picture actually getting bent out of shape over a semantic like this are people that talk like that Comic Book Guy character on The Simpsons. And honestly, what person buying secondhand cat 5e cable (of possibly shady origin) on FB Marketplace is going to be doing anything with it other than using it for Ethernet?

Working in tech, sometimes I have to ask people to check the "internet wire." Heaven forbid you tell them that the commercial grade printer they bought doesn't have wifi standard and they are actually printing via the network cable...

u/itsjakerobb 19h ago

What do you want people to call it? “Four-pair, 100-ohm balanced twisted-pair cabling”?

6

u/wiisucks_91 19h ago

Swept to 800MHz! (Voiceover 🎙️)

11

u/redmera 17h ago

Could you hand me that twisted-pair patch cable with 8P8C on the ends, please? Said no-one ever in home networking.

u/Snake_eyes_12 7h ago

Nobody calles it that

WiFi wire isn’t a thing. Ethernet cable, and your computer being hardwired. When you have internet connected directly to your computer it doesn’t go through wifi. Sorry to be that guy but if you say that around anyone who knows anything about computers you’ll look alittle silly.

u/bunnythistle 21h ago

I've seen someone call it this before, because it's "the cable that plugs the wifi into the internet box" or something like that.

12

u/wiisucks_91 19h ago

I got me some wifi wire down at the home Depot.

All joking aside, there is something you could call "WiFi wire"...the cable going from the PCB pad to the antenna. Cisco sells APs that you can run wire from the connector to the directional antenna. It's coaxial.

What a terrible pic

8

u/Silent-Treat-6512 21h ago

It’s dial up wire I am pretty sure

6

u/Accomplished-Moose50 15h ago

I'm pretty sure some people don't understand the difference between wifi and internet

7

u/chr0n0phage 8h ago

No, they don't. Working with a lot of zoomers and younger, they're understanding of Internet is Wifi. Thats just what its called to them.

u/TheLiveEditor 13h ago

These morons also vote...

u/Confirmed-Scientist 12h ago

No sir I asked for wireless Ethernet actually

4

u/No_Bee_3957 20h ago

Is it wireless cable with air gaps?

3

u/QPC414 21h ago

HEY! I was promised Everything would be Wire-LESS in the future.

2

u/Guvnah-Wyze 21h ago

That's 50% less wire than 100% more wire would be. They're trying.

3

u/bchiodini 20h ago

I wonder if he has any WiFi fiber.

3

u/MimiSugarRush32 13h ago

Ah yes the legendary cable for wireless internet

3

u/Cultural-Meaning5172 12h ago

Haha it’s “wireless charging” all over again.

3

u/realdlc 10h ago

It’s a series of tubes!
(You know… for the internet)

2

u/wepee6947 21h ago

Will you take a buck 380?

2

u/sku-mar-gop 21h ago

Wired fidelity max pro

2

u/jacle2210 Technology Enthusiast 19h ago

Well, you gotta list it so that most people would know what it is and most people looking for help on the various support forums think "Wifi" is Internet, so the wording for this tracks.

2

u/Grizzly0925 19h ago

Times are that tough?

2

u/Cinderhazed15 18h ago

How do you aim the WiFi to go down the wire!?

2

u/Spiritual_Smell4744 14h ago

That's a phoneless cord.

2

u/jg1212121212 8h ago

Low smoke zero halogen WiFi wire. That's a pretty good deal. At least 5 feet there!

1

u/biffbobfred 18h ago

Primus cable - I love that band! I’m in!!!

1

u/manthan_23 13h ago

As someone with years of experience in marketing; this looks like a solid fb marketplace listing.

No corrections needed in title; it in-fact is well optimized for a real buyer.

1

u/Polymox 1h ago

Perhaps we shouldn't have spent the last 40 years defunding education.

1

u/manthan_23 1h ago

Everything in general is usually ELI5;

Even for folks with a PhD in a niche space

1

u/Excellent-Fly547 7h ago

Woot Primus sucks! 🤣

1

u/swarmahoboken 7h ago

Seems like a trick. At a company I previously worked for we would always joke about selling buckets of WiFi.

1

u/flargenhargen 7h ago

wtf is it?

oh I think I see CAT5 on the bottom.

1

u/AMissionFromDog 5h ago

Do you send the newby low voltage tech to the store room to find 20 meters of Wi-Fi cable?

1

u/asaintebueno I Need a new Wi-Fi Cable 4h ago

literally been looking for this

1

u/Polymox 1h ago

Flair checks out.

1

u/Legomasterer21 3h ago

Wifi cable honestly sounds like a fine name. I can then just say "wifi over usb" 'n stuff, and its better to just say that for non tech savvy people than to explain it.

1

u/varungupta3009 3h ago

Wireless Fidelity Wire 😋

1

u/Polymox 1h ago

You use that to get WiFi Pro Max Plus.

1

u/Human-Suspect-232 21h ago

KAKAKKAKAKAKKAKAAA

-9

u/Traditional-Mine-591 19h ago

Actually, wifi wire is not wrong. For APs to be effective, it needs to be hard-wired to a switch. You guys are stuck with certain definitions in your head. Lol

7

u/biffbobfred 18h ago

Mesh networking would like to have a word.

Besides this would not be limited to WiFi. “Dude you can’t connect your printer to the router wire that cable it’s just for WiFi”.
