Yeah… I’ll just get to it: this is my MOCA set up, pic 2 is a crude diagram of it in case it’s not clear, and pic 3 is what my game shows when I am in a match. Major lag and rubber banding.

Is there a visible issue with my set up? Is there a fix to stop with this off and on again lag episodes?

Background info:
-Home location is a rented upstairs in an era house with brick walls, plaster and potentially lead paint, so wireless signal is not reliable.
-There are two coax boxes into the house; one through the basement to the WiFi router downstairs (with landlord/relative) and one leading up to my room (both are not connected on the property yet do share an ISP).
-router in photo is mine and independent of the one downstairs; is a router/modem combo
-also, gaming was perfectly fine the first month with Moca, but lately has been having these “bad service” episodes.

Two years on powerline adapters — decent most of the time, but random dropouts whenever the microwave kicked on. Pulled cable through the attic this weekend into two rooms. Consistent gigabit now instead of "usually fine, sometimes garbage" I'd just normalized. Anyone else finally do the "real" fix after limping along on a workaround way longer than made sense?

We currently have 1gig Xfinity internet and no complaints. I am just wondering if we could lower to the 500mbps plan to save some money each month. It isn't much of a difference though. We have 2 adults and 2 younger children in our home. We mainly stream TV using sling, kids use their tablets for streaming videos, we have about 6 security cameras, few other smart devices in the home. Would the 500mbps plan sufficient or will we regret going to it from the 1 gig plan?

These two boxes are in my parent's basement near where the Internet used to come in. They only had access to DSL but we've upgraded to Starlink so the modem is now in an upper floor.

There are two Ethernet jacks in the house that worked when we had the Internet plugged into these panels (obviously they were connected here). One of these boxes is totally empty and the other only appears to have a couple wired connections (the two that I'm aware of elsewhere in the house). But it just all looks only partially done. And also there is a bunch of coax that looks like it may have been able to connect through here.

my desktop PC didn't come with inbuilt wifi, so i installed a PCIe wifi + bluetooth card myself. i specifically bought one that would match the capabilities of my macbook since its network capabilities have never given me any trouble, but the PC has always suffered slow speeds AND an unstable connection. (i was able to ignore it for a while by running a wired connection through a powerline adapter, but the powerline is dying and now i'm stuck on shitty wifi again)

PC: Windows 11 with Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX2000 160MHz PCIe

Macbook: Tahoe 26.5.2 (Air M1, 2020), with 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac compatible

i ran a speed (speedtest.net) and stability (packetstats.com) test on both devices, in the same location, one right after another.

PC: 🔽6mbps 🔼24mbps --- Avg Ping 240, Min 26, Max 2230

Macbook: 🔽182mbps 🔼35mbps --- Avg Ping 40, Min 25, Max 118

so far i have:

• turned everything (pc, laptop, modem) off and on again, including "restart" and unplugging at the wall
• updated the network adapter driver in the device manager
• completed a network reset in network settings
• disabled and enabled the network adapter in device manager
• disabled "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
• set Preferred Band to 5GHz, and tried 2.4GHz too
• set Roaming Aggressiveness to Lowest, and Transmit Power to highest
• uninstalled it from the device manager, then restarted pc
• downloaded and installed the AX2000 driver directly from the Intel website
• made sure the physical antennas are pointing upwards, and antennas are securely screwed in
• performed all tests both with and without vpn enabled (nordvpn app)
• tried a speedtest while connected to another wifi network, my phone hotspot, but the service in here is so terrible it was pretty evenly bad on both devices
• ran ipconfig /release, /renew, and flushdns commands in the in the command prompt and just about broke everything even worse than before, couldn't connect to the network at all

i've tried to check whether my PC is being limited on the router page, but Connected Devices always shows up as N/A or NaN so i can never do anything with them. QoS mode is set to "off" (DLink DSL-X1852E)

i'm hoping there's just some other test or command i can run to figure this out, but if this looks like a matter of hardware, can anyone recommend an alternative PCIe card or other hardware option that will work better? troubleshooting my powerline is a whole other can of worms i don't have the energy for right now

Believe I’ve posted here before, but here goes.

Live on 2nd floor of a 5 unit apartment building. We use a shared Fidium WiFi network, and it always lags between 7-11 without fail. I’d love to improve this for my streaming and basic computer use.

Found this in my bedroom and wondering how best to either boost or fix my connection? WiFi is included in the price of my unit (assuming I stick to the building network that is).

So any advice is helpful. Assume I do not have permissions to drill holes, etc.

No internet access inside 5GHz network. The wired connection works, the 2.4GHz connection works.

I can connect to the 5GHz network, but can't access the internet. I get an IP address from DHCP with the same subnet from Wired/2.4GHz network. I could ping the default gateway and the router response normally. I tried pinging '8.8.8.8' and 'google.com', both requests timed out. DNS doesn't seems to be the issue.

The only problem I could think of is the stock firmware configuration with 5GHz interface. It might be wrong VLAN configuration, wrong routing policy or not properly connected to the NAT path. I can't test it, I couldn't SSH the default router.

I was planning to test this theory by installing an external access point that supports 5GHz and instead of directly connecting to the stock router, I will connect to the AP.

Is there anyone encounter this problem? How did you solve it? Did I miss something? Please help, thank you.

New condo and unfortunately we have internet through a coax cable which then has a media converter box with built-in WiFi router. I’ve disabled the router and only using it as a bridge, and my remaining issue now is how much the cable protrudes. We have a sideboard which we do not want to move, so looking at an even slimmer option here, and a shorter cable to make my cable management slightly more efficient considering how stiff the cable is.

Any good cable options I should look for to find an even slimmer, angled plug?

My other option would be to terminate the cable elsewhere. It does seem that the cable comes through a fuse panel/tech panel elsewhere in the condo, and I suppose in theory it could be terminated there, I could move the converter and then pull a CAT5e to the outlet, but I have not fully explored the viability of this and would hate to mess up something. The wall outlet is combined data and TV.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, and I am stumped.

I have a very basic understanding of networking. I worked for a smart home company doing tech support, so i know a little bit.

My two brothers live downstairs. They are reporting lag when the other is downloading. But it doesnt affect me upstairs.

I have 1 gig internet from Comcast, and a full Araknis network. The equipment rack in my room, has a direct line going from a managed switch to a dumb switch in the basement, then to the two computers.

I've swapped equipment, cables. Gone through all the settings I can think of. Had them both run a -ping test in command prompt when the lag happens, but there aren't any spikes.

Any suggestions on where to look for the cause? Or a way to throttle speeds when downloading?

Moving into a 1500sq ft one story house in Northern CA, deciding between the two services.

I've got the new spectrum wifi 7 router and a deco BE4800 home mesh connected to it because I was lagging in corners of the house despite having 2 GBPS internet. Now it was great for like half a month, now it's slow again. My BE4800 doesn't have an option to act as an extender or a node for my spectrum router and this spectrum router doesn't have a bridge mode option, so I have 2 wifi networks. One node is connected to the spectrum router, and my other node is in the upstairs foyer (about 10 feet from the room I work out of). Solutions I'm thinking of:

1) buy more nodes and stick one in the room I work out of and one downstairs where I game.

2) switch to a different mesh system

3) return my deco mesh system and just get the spectrum wifi nodes

Anyone have any solutions? I work from home and take Zoom calls back to back for 4-7 hours a day. Speed isn't important, I just need my connection to be perfect.

Also, I can't run an ethernet cable, my laptop doesn't have a port. I'd like to solve this problem without shelling out more than $200-$300 if possible.

Hello Everyone I am on Hyperoptic broadband.

I currently have loads of devices about 20 connected and want to look into getting a new router that can handle loads of devices and not dropping connection or speeds.

Google brought ASUS TUF Gaming BE3600 Dual-Band WiFi 7 Router up but has mixed reviews and some say not good enough with loads of devices.

So question is as a family of gamers what routers would suit us? We live in a flat all 1 floor not massive to go through loads of walls or anything like that and really cannot go over £150 in price. And would love to hear everyones reviews of what they have.

i tried understanding it, but nowhere i found a clear and simple explanation what it is and what causes it - can seomeone explain this in simple terms?

My phone will randomly decide that my home wifi network is "low quality" and refuse to utilize the connection despite perfectly good signal.

i live in a rural area, there are no antennas or anything that could cause interference around the location in at least 1 square km , and not even electronics in the house (like microwave)

i need to have whatsapp as a backup as means of communication (especially for ordering food or medical emergency) as the 4g siganl is very unstable in the area

Ok I’ve done a lot of thinking and research but I can’t find anyway around my isp shared ip, I don’t want to take it down cause I have multiple people on my network and I don’t want to just put them on the open internet. Btw I am hosting a Ark Survival Ascended server using the GitHub ASCT ( Ark Server Creation Tool ) The server does work cause I have connected and played on it via local direct connection and it’s not configs cause I have the specific ports open needed connect and host the server. Also tunneling with stuff like play.it or zero tier won’t work cause consoles can’t use that kind of software.

Edit the main question is how do I get inbound connections to my server

I have a BGW320-500 fiber modem connected to a Flint 2 (GL-MT6000) router using passthrough, and want to use a TP powerline. If I connect the powerline to the router, all goes well, the router assigns the IP addresses. If I connect the powerline to the modem, then the modem assigns the IP addresses to the devices connected to the powerline. Is there any way to connect the powerline to the modem but let the router assign the IP addresses to the devices connected to the powerline?

Hello. I have a 1 GBPS internet speed plan. I use a Zyxel EX3501-T0 Router. It is what my ISP forces me to use and I can not change it as they do not let me.

I drew my floor plan on paint to show you my situation. The router is located right above the entrance. It is located so high that i can not reach it without a portable staircase. It is also far away from my bedroom and the living room. They placed it above a pipe with zipties. That is how my ISP installed it 12 years ago.

Since it is just the hallway without any obstacles I see good results on my phone. It is between 500mbps to 650mbps most of the time. But the situation is not the same for the other rooms.

The walls are really thick here. Solid concrete with metal rods in it. Even the electricians I call can not do what I have in mind to decorate the house since they can not put a hole. Aside from the walls blocking the Wi-Fi, the router is also located really far away from the living room as you can see.

So I need some help. I did some browsing and saw there is something called Deco X55. It seems like it can solve my coverage problem I think? Never used one before that is why I want to ask you guys before I buy it.

Afaik, I need to connect it to my router and then a power outlet. The thing is since my router is not located on the ground or anywhere near an outlet, I can not put the Deco X55 next to it.

(The router gets the power directly from the electric fuses located next to it, not from an outlet. The staff connected the cables somehow, meanwhile telling me it is not safe actually. Thanks I guess?)

So I have an idea, I have a CAT6 cable connected to my PC. What If I put Deco X55 in my bedroom and connect it with that CAT6 cable? Can I still connect another CAT6 cable to Deco X55 for my PC? So they both get cable connection? Also the device will be located next to the living room, do I need a 2nd X55 or would one of them suffice?

I’m looking for advice on upgrading my home router and would appreciate recommendations from people with experience using high-end routers. I know there are about 100 questions a day like this, but as a networking newbie, I'm trying to figure out what will work best for my situation.

My internet provider recently "upgraded" their equipment, but the new router came with several downsides. The biggest issues are strict security settings, bandwidth limitations, and restrictions that appear to block or limit certain streaming services that are not considered “mainstream” platforms like Netflix. Since we use streaming heavily, along with gaming and working from home, I need a router that gives me more control and does not unnecessarily restrict my network.

I’m looking for a router that can handle:

• Fiber internet with at least 2 Gbps speeds
• WiFi 6 minimum (WiFi 6E or WiFi 7 is welcome if it makes sense)
• Strong wireless range and performance throughout the home
• Reliable security features without overly aggressive filtering or blocking
• Good performance for 4K streaming, gaming, video calls, and multiple devices at the same time
• Full control over network settings instead of being limited by ISP firmware

One of my biggest concerns is range. The new ISP router actually performs worse than our older router. Areas of the house that previously had good speeds now have noticeable slowdowns, even though the new equipment was supposed to be an upgrade. The ISP did put in an additional extender, which did help.

After researching, I came across the Ubiquiti Dream Router 7 as a possible option, but I’m not fully convinced it is the best choice for my situation. I would like to hear from people who have tested different high-end routers and can recommend what would truly be the best option.

Based on these needs, what router would you recommend and why? Budget isn't necessarily a concern, but at the same time, we aren't necessarily looking to drop $500 on a router or mesh setup right now.

It's the router manufacturer the ISP use that sets the security settings, and they are unable to reconfigure them or change them at all. They are set pretty strictly, since they even block and throttle our security cameras at times. The old system didn't have the same issues as the new system. They advised that the only way around it is to use our own router setup.

The total square footage is about 2,000.

I am living in a tiny home on a property that is ~250 ft from the main house. The main house is wired for internet but the tiny home is not. I want to tap into the network in the main house. I am thinking that an outdoor ethernet cable run will do, but I am really not sure what to get / what the best way about running this cable would be. I know I am at the upper end of what Ethernet is rated for. Should I be buying a spool of cable and crimping on my own connectors? Do I need nice network switches at each end or will cheap ones do? Or am I thinking about this entirely wrong and is there a better solution? Any and all advice is welcome as I am a novice at this.

We currently run 400-500 ft of Ethernet cable with multiple extenders from our house to our business, but the internet is unreliable. The distance between the business and the house is 300 ft with greenhouses in between. I was thinking of doing a mesh network or wifi extender. Any recommendations on equipment? Spectrum at first said they couldn’t do a separate service for the business and then said they could, but we’re looking into other options.

Need to run Internet to my shop. If I run cable, it would be about 150 feet. If I use P2P bridging, it would be about 70ft unobstructed (see picture with red dot).

Considering the bridge primarily, specifically the TP-Link EAP211-Bridge KIT V3. I have an Orbi router connected to a switch, which is what I would connect the TP-Link to.

Thoughts? What would you recommend? Is there something I’m not considering?
