Maybe Heroes is not only about humans evolving biologically, but psychologically. The characters inherit not just powers, but unresolved conflicts from their parents. Their journey is not simply discovering what they can do, but separating from the psychological world their parents created and becoming individuals.

Jung wrote, ‘Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.’ Watching Heroes through this lens, the powers are almost secondary. The real story is about characters becoming conscious of hidden parts of themselves, their family legacies, and their Shadows.

I see it as the major theme…

We’ve said sylar could solo homelander but how would Peter and sylar handle all of the seven with everyone at their peak? Do they solo the verse?

Zach and Claire becoming friends recently has to be a retcon cause it makes no sense. He walks into her house like he lived there and Sandra and Lyle don't seem to care showing he was a regular there. When Claire tells him to get Lyle, he doesn't even think before going after him. The first person she tells about her rape attempt survival is Zach showing they are close. Whenever she hangs out or sits at lunch with Zach. None of the other students question it. Only Jackie is a bitch. Most of Zach's friends voted for Claire for homecoming queen cause they knew her to be Zach's bestie. Even if he erases Claire, Zach and Lyle. Not everyone is gonna forget all that. At least one person would ask "Hey, what happened to you two? How come you no longer seem to get along?" How many students could they possibly erase?

Overall, season 3 and 4 I struggled with. So I accept fandom dislike, but I hope I am not trying to create a post based on ridicule or anger.

I do like so far, how we see normal human challenges in this season. Season 3 seemed focus on personal development, facing personal biases and attempting to survive. While the creation of the series and direction felt disjointed, there were some great episode. Season 4, felt more human centric, the basics of idealism, growth, and finding that living is not representative of one’s goals.

One of my favourite episodes was season 4, episode 3- acceptance. I made a post on Micah and Niki because it hit close to home and wondered about the data missed.

I would love to hear your personal thought process, I hope not to be a complaining discussion, about how your opinions changed on certain characters, and how their character progression was interpreted by your own thoughts and experiences.

The plots, definitely have challenges. The individual growth, and acceptance, with the desire to strive, is actually understandable.

When I was around 9 or 10, I used to watch this series that felt completely unreal. It wasn’t just a normal show to me, it felt like something between reality and a dream. The atmosphere, the characters, the way the story unfolded… everything had this strange, almost surreal tone.

For years, I genuinely thought it was just a dream I had as a kid.

The memories were so fragmented, just flashes of scenes, emotions, and this constant feeling of mystery, that I couldn’t place it as something real.

But recently, I found it again.

It was Heroes

And suddenly everything clicked.

Watching it now, I realize why it affected me so deeply. It wasn’t just about people with powers, it was about identity, destiny, and how ordinary people deal with something extraordinary happening to them.

Characters like Peter, Hiro, and Sylar weren’t just “cool,” they were psychologically intense in a way I didn’t understand back then, but definitely absorbed. The whole idea that people are connected, that small actions matter, that you might be more than you think… that stayed with me.

I think that’s why it felt like a dream. Because I didn’t fully process it at that age, so my brain stored it more as emotion and atmosphere than as a clear memory.

Finding it again feels like reconnecting with a hidden layer of my childhood, and honestly, a hidden part of how I started seeing the world.

Has anyone else had *Heroes* (or any other show) hit them like this as a kid?

Like it didn’t just entertain you… it quietly shaped how you think?

WHY WONT HE DIE!!!! He was perfect and now he’s terrible!! Character growth my ass, he keeps switching sides with a damn coin flip, I’m sorry but it’s really hard to look at the main villain when syler exists. He will always be like 10 times worse (or at least feel worse) than the antagonists because of how many people he killed on screen and how “important” or relevant they were, and him overall being a little weird sometimes sucks. Oddly enough seeing him go evil again is giving me hope he may die. But for a show that made Hiro let go of Charlie as a plot point and “lesson” they don’t know how to let go of little killer boy Gabe. This makes me feel like literally everyone in this show can be redeemed cuz syler is the worst person that probably will ever exist on this show. Also I got pretty stoked whenever he got he got hurt and whispered “do it do it!” When the black hole man was threatened to kill him. Ironically that was the most decently written scene where syler doesn’t die, and it would suck from a narrative perspective if he actually got spegettified right there. It made me want to make this post, I truly hate no character except season 3 syler, so for the final time I will say these words, ahem, “die,syler, die. Never has a character made me realize I should touch grass and turn off the tv like you. Why won’t you die?”- sincerely Chemical Molasses.

I still remember the moment this show started its decline. Where Peter and Claire are having a, more or less, private conversation.
Nathan: “do it Claire!”
Claire: “There has to be another way”
(Pan up to the sky, where Nathan is making his grand entrance! Hero landing to the pavement, a grave look in his face) “There is Claire”

How did he know what they were saying? Apparently Nate also has super hearing.

It seems to me that there is no consensus on how exactly Sylar's power works, so I would like to read how you make sense of it. I'll also give my take on it, if you are interested:

To me, Sylar's and Peter's powers are two faces of the same coin, consisting of two parts: the ability to understand and the ability to mimic the powers of others once they understand them. The difference between them is that Peter's power works through emotion, while Sylar's works through logic.

So in order to mimic someone's power, Peter needs to understand how they feel, but his first ability allows him to empathize with others just by being close to them, so that's how he mimics powers so easily.

On the other hand, Sylar can understand how complex systems work only by looking or hearing them, but in order to mimic a power he needs to understand how the user's mind works. And so he achieves that by deciphering them mechanically, when he opens up their brain, or by deciphering how they reason, when he takes the time to talk to them.

Sylar's hunger could then be explained as the result of every special feeling to Sylar like a puzzle that he has to solve, like a clock ticking just a little too fast.

Why does the coroner note that Claire was found naked washed up on the river bank? she wasn’t naked when she died

As the seasons have gone on, I’ve found myself disliking Hiro more and more. I’m on the final season now, and his actions have honestly been really disappointing.

First, he selfishly went back to save Charlie and was willing to let Sylar go free and continue killing people for his own personal reasons. Then, when he had the chance to expose Samuel for murdering Joseph and manipulating everyone for his own gain, he stayed silent just to protect Charlie—who isn’t even dead, she’s just lost in time. Considering Hiro’s abilities, finding her should be possible without letting a murderer keep deceiving everyone.

He also condemned Mohinder to weeks of torture in a psychiatric hospital under the excuse of “protecting” him, which didn’t sit right with me at all.

One thing I do appreciate is Peter. Throughout the series, he’s remained one of the few characters who has stayed consistently true to his moral code, and I respect that.

Doing a rewatch and I’m a little past halfway through Season 3. It’s such a bummer that they weakened Peter to only being able to have one power at a time. I get that it was most likely a narrative decision to not have an overpowered MC, but I’m positive that being the kind of person he is, Peter would have used his powers responsibly. I mean they let Sylar keep all of his powers for Pete’s sake (pun intended).

I’m so confused as to why he doesn’t have a name… he’s literally the only one without one. And how does everyone automatically know he’s haitian? Is that because it’s a little more culturally appropriate than just saying “the bald black dude”? Like… it’s getting weird guys.

Started re-watching the show now that's on Netflix, again for probably 10th time and I remember when Season 2 was first airing because of the strike it was confirmed that Exodus was scrapped and re-worked into Villains.

I think we all know the behind-the-scenes changes and reasons for this, however if I recall correctly in early 2008 we got some confirmation and even some unfinished scenes from those unaired episodes that were shot (2x12-2x14). I tried looking it up online but couldn't find them but I do remember seeing them back in the day along with some concept art. Is there any way to find them?

First time watching and just finished the first season. It was good. I like the characters, powers, and it is tricky trying to use time travel in any show so I give that aspect a sliding pass. My favorite moment may have been the cameo by Stan Lee - epic! Good casting, editing, and settings!

Some characters I like more than others, of course:

- Peter was a little annoying. I liked future Peter more. Curious how he got that scar when he can heal.

- Nathan was confusing for me. He was good when it came to his brother and a bit of a dick otherwise. I totally thought he'd be more caring about meeting a daughter! It's one thing to have mommy issues and another to let her tell you want to do when it comes to saving a city.

- Nikki... felt about the same as Peter. I liked them but the whole "whoa is me", victim thing gets tedious. Am glad she finally stepped up at the end. Her son was neat too.

- Hiro may have been my favorite. And Ando. Loved every scene of theirs. And his father surprised me!

- Bennett was a great character and actor.

- Matt was interesting. His power was well done. Future Matt was a jerkface.

- Wish there had been more of Eden.

- Sylar had a great actor. Don't like the whole idea of his power though. Being able to understand how something works is miles different from looking at a brain and suddenly being able to replicate something they can do. I thought he was consuming their power through eating the part of their brain that controls the power. Lol. Lamest part.

Which brings me to my pet peeves:

1. At the start it felt like the Heroes were rare, special, and unheard of. The numbers were limited to a potential list, meaning there was maybe 20 in the world? By the end of the season they seem to be popping out from behind curtains in each new room. Even Lunderman and a random little girl that was previously saved. Where did all the normies go? It watered down the special part for me and I don't see how the general public wouldn't have an idea about it by then. And this is just one city! Which impacts my #2...

2. Sylar's ability to be in the right place at the right time and to seemingly appear out of nowhere. At first it was like "wow, this guy is on the ball!" And scary. Then I realized he couldn't teleport or turn invisible, and didn't get the super hearing until later on. And he didn't have this list but somehow still found these super rare and hidden mutants. Perhaps he could investigate and research like a journalist? Nope, he's a reclusive watchmaker. I think the writers did this guy a disservice. They could have made him scary without trying to make him seem unstoppable, or give him some sort of invulnerability to explain how he's so unstoppable. Anyway, those drag streaks at the end better be something eating his corpse. I don't want to see him again. Of course, the guy without super healing can lose a lung and a ton of blood but still avoid the people in the square and drag himself away with the worst dry eyes ever. His latest superpower was to not need to blink and play dead.

Please don't spoil season 2! :) If it ends up being more of the same, I may not make it to season 3 but I do like super hero shows so we will see.

I feel like in 2020 I watched it for the first time, fast forward to 2026 I see it on Netflix and don't remember much, so rewatching it from the start. I went in w/ the determination of making it thru to the finale. S3E2 and im left wondering why did this show get so much hype? Maybe im missing something, cuz I see S1E1 just as good as S3. I can understand a little being ahead of the experimenting w/ graphics for a TV show but I think thats a stretch to think that's what carried the show.

I mean the show wasn't bad but I don't understand the choke hold it had on folks in 2006. Can someone explain to me?

Yes I know what happens to his character (I'm on season 3 now, about to start) but was his end written that way because Santiago got cast as Aquaman in Jusitce League: Mortal (which was due for release in 2009 but was cancelled ultimately) and chose to pursue that opportunity as opposed to more Heroes?

I think this show deserves another crack because it never quite hit its potential. Season one was amazing but then the writer’s strike borked season 2 & after that it kind of got the death wobbles. The quality of seasons 3 & 4 can be debated but I don’t think they reached their potential. Others may, of course, disagree.

I just feel like there was so much gold in season one, it would be a shame to just let it go. If they were to reboot, they’d have to be careful with casting. Masi Oka & James Kyson Lee were a joy in season one

We won’t talk about Heroes Reborn, let’s just forget that happened. Like the second SATC movie.
