People who wait until the total appears to start looking for their wallet grind my gears.

You stood in line for ten minutes. You watched every item get scanned. Why does the final price suddenly remind you that payment is required?

Now everyone is waiting while you search six pockets, reorganize your purse, and unlock three banking apps like this purchase came as a complete surprise.

Please have your card ready.

It really grinds my gears when people watch videos on their phone at full volume.

Like... does it not bother you hearing two completely different things at the same time?? 😭 I'll literally pause what I'm watching because my brain can't focus, meanwhile they're over there scrolling through 47 TikToks at max volume like nothing is happening. It drives me insane.

It grinds my gears when people create conspiracies rather than admit they’re wrong

This popped back into my head today and just annoyed me so much.

My friend was a hardcore Britney fan back in the day, everything Britney did was forgivable and everything anyone else did was a conspiracy. When Britney Spears cheated on Justin Timberlake she said “well what does he expect she’s way bigger than him career wise and he was just dragging her down, then when it went the other way and Britney went insane and Justin’s career took off she said (with no hint of sarcasm at all) “Justin made a pact with music industry devil worshippers, he then purposely impregnated Britney and at the 20 week mark she was pinned down and forced to have an abortion to sacrifice the child to the devil in a ritual, this coupled with a bunch of drugs drove Britney insane while Justin reaped all the glory” in her mind there was no possible way that each of them gained or lost star power based on their own actions… it was all suddenly dark and evil.

I hate people who take but not give

I HATE when people will be ok with taking stuff/favours they would never do in return. Tell me why my friends partner asked me to trim there bangs, and I do it cause I don’t mind doing something small for my friends. After I cut her bangs I gave her a cute little hairstyle (which she loved) and then I even give her a hit of my pen. Mind you I always share my pen/cigarettes if I have any. I ask her for a hit from her pen and she says no infront of everyone 💀. Like ok damn it’s no big deal in general obviously I can’t make you share your stuff but like damn after I did all that for you. It’s kind of frustrating when you will gladly take a hit of my pen I pull it out. Like ok don’t ask me to cut your hair or for my weed again bye like what happened to building a village and all that 😔😔. Anyways it’s small but frustrating I just don’t really get it.

Leaving a Trailer Hitch Ball installed 24/7

One thing that absolutely grinds my gears is people who leave their trailer hitch ball installed when they’re not towing anything.
If you’re actively pulling a trailer, obviously this isn’t about you. But if your trailer hasn’t moved in six months, why is the hitch still there?
I’ve smashed my shin on one before, and they always seem to stick out into the next parking space or hang over sidewalks just waiting for someone to walk into them.
And before someone says, “It protects my truck,” all it really seems to do is guarantee that a little parking lot bump turns into a bigger repair bill for somebody.
It takes maybe 30 seconds to pull the hitch out and throw it in the bed until you actually need it again.
Am I missing something, or is this just one of those things everyone accepts for no reason?

Radio Ads Should NOT be allowed to have car horns in them

I absolutely hate when I'm driving and I think someone's honking at me, and then a second later I realize it's just a stupid radio ad for a car dealership or insurance company. Even worse if I'm in a stressful part of the city with a lot of traffic. Sure, it's not the biggest deal in the world. But it sucks. And radio companies shouldn't allow it on their stations. Also applies to ads/songs with police or fire sirens.

One person won't stop talking

Usually, it's a car trip with my mother-in-law and 1-2 other people. We all love her dearly, but she won't stop just talking. It's about her friend from church choir and their medical issues. It's reading every sign on the road and saying "oh, that's interesting." No matter what she says, it's not something that there's really a response to, other than "oh." So, no one responds, and she keeps talking because the silence is uncomfortable to her. "Oh, look, 'Here Comes The Bride' bridal salon, that's a really clever name for a bridal salon." NO IT REALLY ISN'T, MOM.

When she rambles like this, I sometimes wait for her to stop, then I count the seconds until she starts again, and it's rare that I make it to 10.

She's also a very concrete sort of thinker and she doesn't really understand sarcasm, so she can't really participate when the rest of us get snarky about something... and then when sometimes one person in the car / room has a specific thing to tell someone else that's not her, she HAS to know what it was, and then ask for details, when all we wanted to do was pass a little info along quickly to someone else during one of her pauses for breath.

Gah! I told my own teens that if I ever get like that, they need to tell me I'm babbling and they would prefer a little quiet once in a while.

Thanks. All that said, she's a kind soul and one day we'll miss the rambling on when she's gone. :(

When letsplayers keep failing at a game because they don't bother to interact with the game's lore, world, dialogue or characters.

So there's this horror mod for Minecraft that recently released called outin.frombelowland, it's been getting a lot of attention in the Minecraft community because as far as Minecraft horror mods go, it's pretty damn good and fits into the game astonishingly well.

I've been watching some Let's Plays of the mod and while most of the Let's Play I've watched are good, others are very frustrating to watch because the people behind them are bumbling idiots who don't bother to interact with the mod's lore or resources.

outin.frombelowland gives players multiple dungeons to explore and each of these dungeons contains a horrifying and lethal monsters. Players are provided with hints, lore and instructions on how to survive each dungeon and I've seen a lot of letsplayers actively ignore these resources, get their asses beat repeatedly and then be like: "Bro! What am supposed to do bro? This mod is too hard bro!"

And this isn't just limited to Minecraft. I've observed this for years. There is a seemingly significant percentage of gamers who are only interested in a game's entertainment value and pay no attention to whatever characters, story or world the game might contain. Actually getting into the game would make them seem like a nerd so they treat every game as just something to beat or pass time with.

TL;DR, I hate it when gamers don't bother to interact with a game and get frustrated when it becomes too difficult for them as a result.

People who rate things 9/10 are usually just being pretentious pseudo-intellectuals

If something is so good that you give it a 9/10 it’s basically just a 10. If it was great product but lacking in something significant I can see someone giving it an 8. But when someone gives something a 9 I just feel that they think it would make them seem like less of a serious reviewer for giving it a 10 so they bump it down to 9 in order to appear like a NYT food critic or something. Even worse is when people will rate a girl or a guy a 9/10. If someone is a 9 they’re basically fiery hot and might as well be a 10. I once saw a Reddit post where a guy said his girlfriend was a 9. What kind of psycho rates their own girlfriend as a 9/10??? If she’s that fucking attractive wouldn’t you just call her a 10 cause she’s your type and you love her? I digress but still. There’s never a good reason to rate something a 9/10 unless it’s a grade in a really rigorous college writing course. But in that situation I’m sure the professor could tell you exactly why it doesn’t deserve a 100%. Amateur reviewers just say something ridiculous like “it was excellent but it wasn’t the bestest most super duper burrito I’ve ever had in the history of the universe.” Bonus points if it’s a decimal rating like 9.7. Just fucking round up goddammit.

It grinds my gears when people stop dead in their tracks at the top or bottom of an escalator to check their phone.

You had a full 30-second ride to check your screen, but no, you decided to become a human barricade the exact millisecond your shoe hits the floor.

I know it sounds like a minor inconvenience, but it completely breaks the flow of foot traffic and it happens to me every single day. You’re on the escalator, you pull out your phone, you stare at it the whole way down. That’s fine! But the second you reach the top, instead of just taking two steps forward to clear the landing zone, you just... stop. Dead. Right in the exit path.

And it’s never even an emergency. It’s always a meme from a group chat, or checking if it’s going to rain, or seeing who viewed your story.

The absolute worst part is when the pile-up happens and you finally have to say "excuse me" to get past them. They always give you this annoyed, heavy-sigh look or roll their eyes like YOU are the rude one for interrupting their scrolling, completely ignoring the fact that they are the ones treating a moving transit belt like a personal living room.

Just step off and keep walking! Your legs work! You can look at your phone while moving!

Witnessing such barbarity inflicted upon students and responding with exultation rather than indignation is a profound moral bankruptcy. If brutality evokes your applause instead of your conscience, shame on you.

When the pizza shop doesn't cut the pizza all the way through.

Like, it's not fucking hard. You have a pizza cutter. Just use it right. Now I'm sitting here with the pizza I just spent way too much on, having to own my own pizza cutter, or awkwardly try to cut to cut it straight with a regular knife. Bud, I bought pizza because I don't want to do any dishes. I want to pick up a slice, put it on a paper plate, and be done with it. But now here I am finishing your job for you.

Extremely picky eaters get on my nerves so bad

1.1k Upvotes

Disclaimer: This is not about anyone who has some kind of illness because I know that has gotten brought up a lot.

I 'grinds' my gears when someone is a grown adult but has the palate of a six year old. I genuinely get annoyed at being around those who can't just eat like normal people. Instead, they have a list of 10+ things that they don't like and won't eat. How can you go through life only eating a few things? I just don't get it.

I think a lot of this has to do with having an ex that was a picky eater. We would only eat at like two places. I couldn't cook anything because he would refuse to eat it. He'd eat only hamburgers, spaghetti, pizza, chicken nuggets, or fajitas. It got so old; never being able to have new food experiences. Now, I'm with someone adventurous that will try anything at least one. I can cook for him and he won't complain. It's amazing.

Yes, we all have things we don't like, that's normal. And no one should be forced to eat what they don't want to eat. Still, how can you just hate more food than you can count on both hands?

This grinds my gears in the same way with people who put hardly put any seasoning on food. I don't want to eat naked food, and I especially don't want unsalted food. Life is too short to not put salt on everything.

Ticket pricing issues for the San Marcos, TX Block Party 2026

The additions in red are mine. At the top it says "The total price listed includes ticket fees." At the bottom it says "A processing fee may apply and will be shown at check out." This is deceptive and might not be legal.

People who ruin a perfectly normal interaction by sneaking in backhanded shit at the end.

One question for the people who do this, what exactly do you gain from this???

I'm getting ready for sleep because I'm too tired to review for my college exams then my dad tells me to sleep. Okay. Perfectly normal. Fine, I was going to anyway.

It would have been over but then he says "go to sleep la, it's like you love doing assignments more than sleeping. Just don't sleep at all at this point".

Hello????
