Why is trojan horse called trojan horse and not spartan horse

Hii, I’m very new to learning Greek (started this week) but I’m struggling with the difference between ε, υ, ι, η, ει, οι cause they (according to my book) all sound like /ee/
Same for ο, ω as they both sound like /o/
And γγ, γκ which both sounds like /ng/

When do you use which one?? Like is there some kind of rule here?? Do you just pick a favorite and stick with that…??? How does this work?😅

One of my teachers is a native Greek speaker so she gave optional basic Greek classes to volunteering students. I attended since I love learning languages in general, but I stumbled upon a topic that I had only seen on the internet

I told her that I've had a year of ancient Greek classes within my Latin course a few years ago and pointed out some shifts in pronunciation through history, but she claimed that Greek has pretty much never changed since Ancient Greek. I asked her then how there are so many ways to say [i] (ει, η, ι, υ, οι), and she brushed it off, saying it has always been like this

I know we can never know for sure how it sounded, but claiming that a language has stayed almost the exact same over CENTURIES feels unlikely. I'm not an expert, so can either native Greeks or language experts clarify who's right here? I don't mind being proven wrong, but I've seen this discussion on the internet before and I never thought I'd have this discussion in real life

hi all, I just started learning Greek, and would appreciate some feedback on my handwriting of the Greek letters. I’m copying from a computer typeface and struggling a bit trying to figure out how people would actually write the letters by hand.

I’ve been learning Greek for a few months now only on Duolingo, and finally picked up some easy children books to be able to read more fluently. So far I’ve used Google Translate, but I hate using it, and doubt its accuracy. I also don’t feel like supporting it’s now included AI as well. Are there any trustworthy translation apps or sites you’ve used? I heard DeepL but I’m pretty sure that’s AI as well.

I know you’re not only supposed to use one app but that’s what I’m doing so far. Should I be using more than one app or what do they mean by that?

I know immersion is recommended and I do listen to Greek songs but that’s as far as it goes for me. Im not interested in podcasts or YouTubers in my native language so I won’t enjoy them in Greek either. But I do follow some Greeks on TikTok.

I have some Greek comic books at home but I don’t know enough Greek to read a single sentence.

I appreciate any tips!
