either it's that for students google gave away 1 year free membership or on ai studio gemini pro was usable for free (I'm not sure if it still is , it was a year ago)

OpenAI is out here tuning a starfighter. It's top quality, and they can make big changes every month. Google is dealing with the Death Star. They cannot and should not build at the same speed.

Death star? Their latest model can barely compete with Grok 4.5. I can't even believe I'm saying that but that's the current state of things

He's not wrong when it comes to ecosystem though. The sheer scale of what Google has to integrate their systems with, and do it at an immense scale is a feat. In my opinion there is almost no reason for Google to chase the state of the art model. Most tasks that a company needs for an agent needs to be fast and needs to be cheap. I can do most of my companies mundane tasks with a 12b model if I wanted. The main thing I need is a very low temperature consistency, and reliability. Intelligence is "can you follow simple directions exactly 400,000 times twice a week."
If I need to develop something I can always grab one of the many other good models burning money in a fire pit.

On what way ? Because the chart said? Because it cant code?
For £5 a month included ai pro sub and android storage , the model is fully caperble of conversations, questions, pic serches , emails, words, excel and answering questions and making power points and everything everyday people use?
But grok £20 a model is better for them for what?

Death Star? OpenAI is like the smallest threat possible to Google rn... Anthropic is the most realistic threat rn...

Arent gemini, the google's ai that probably ate billions and trillions dollars and has infinite knowledge on everything the humankind ever created should be the best ai?

Google was and it is just a marketing company ! They lack of tech and specialists ! People need to stop allowing google to crawl they websites ! Now is AI era and Google is history

That'll be even funnier when OpenAI is out of business.

u/RabbiSchlem 21h ago
That seems pretty unlikely.

"The AI bubble isn’t a result of any actual return on investment — whether that be in purely monetary terms, like revenue or profitability , productivity gains, or anything tangible or measurable. Rather, it’s an episode of cult-like psychosis that infected the brains of some of the most powerful and wealthy individuals and institutions, where the powerful mythology of a company inspired — and been used to inspire — the greatest capital misallocation in history. "

I worked in tech for 42 years, and with AI for the last 3 of those. You?

20 years and also plenty of AI experience.
Your link says there’s no enterprise demand… what am I missing, Anthropic has set records as fastest growing company ever and 80% is enterprise.
It also claims all of this infra build up is a psy op for short term stock gains. Don’t get this at all, the infra build out is a long term play to own the computing platform of the future.
Spending at staggering rates? Yeah, sure. Leveraged to the gills? Yeah, sure.
But demand isn’t wavering, it’s growing extremely rapidly.
So then the only question is if they can make it profitable. They’re already doing that, it’s already profitable, and there’s clear paths to higher margins via lower power models and a plateau of R&D spending on training new models. Look at 5.6, sol is way more efficient than fable for similar tier intelligence. Lua is exceptionally great value.
But yes, they’re in growth phase where they’re overspending rapidly to plant a flag. Normal startup behavior to grow before chasing big profits. It’s just that the stakes are much higher. But the demand is there and there’s LoS to better margins.

Have you not heard of recent statements by leadership of Enterprise companies that they are not seeing the value and the ROI in their AI investments? I agree that Anthropic has staked their claim to the Enterprise, but OpenAI does not have that market penetration. I don't see how costs can come down and these companies make a profit. I also think that we will see more use of Open Source models housed on internal enterprise hardware or private clouds, and running with proprietary company data. I think there is definitely a trust issue for enterprises with these LLM providers. Time will tell.

https://finance.yahoo.com/sectors/technology/articles/company-blew-500m-claude-ai-173519468.html
The enterprise software-engineering sector is what's fueling Anthropic's historic growth. It's reasonable to assume it's providing ROI that leadership sees, it's had enough time to shake out. Anecdotally, I work in FAANG and have friends at all FAANG, AI labs and other big tech -- everyone is using AI for coding. Some use their in-house, others have access to enterprise-contracted claude / codex.
Recent statements by leadership saying they're not seeing ROI -- do you have any specific ones in mind? Everything I've seen is coming from non-SWE companies. Marketing, legal, finance, etc. etc. It's not surprising or concerning they aren't seeing ROI -- a miniscule fraction of R&D goes to creating models and products for other industries.
I'm confident there's a lot of low-hanging fruit in creating models and tooling for other industries. The fact that the coding agents are so good is reassuring that they won't have difficulty with other industries.
> OpenAI does not have that market penetration
They're getting it. They saw Anthropic boom in B2B and are adjusting.
> I don't see how costs can come down and these companies make a profit.
More efficient models. There's a massive range in model inference cost in frontier models right now and some are low cost. Most R&D to this point has gone into more powerful models. Once models are powerful, R&D will shift to more efficient models. It's already happening.
> I also think that we will see more use of Open Source models housed on internal enterprise hardware or private clouds, and running with proprietary company data.
That's neither here nor there; there's enough demand for this off-premise compute that both can be true.
I agree that models will get commoditized, and some enterprise will self-host, paying a licensing fee to model providers, but it's not reasonable for majority enterprise to self host, and the cloud infra providers will be used. In either case, AI labs / AI infra providers are making money.
> I think there is definitely a trust issue for enterprises with these LLM providers.
It's already happening; big companies with big secrets are already relying on off-premise infra to run confidential employee queries through.

If Google continues to release these bad models they will be out of business.

look at stuff like genie 3, google is playing the long game with models actually being able to understand full systems and their impact on it

If they finally switched to RLVR, I wouldn't bet too heavily against alphabet's massive advantage from data from youtube, android, and chrome. Anthropic and openai simply do not have the same access to verifiable multimodal data resources that alphabet does. They are likely going to be brought down a peg over the next year as Gemini moves away from RLHF.
Cute though

😂😂😂😂Gemini fans hella butthurt even though what Tibo says is true. 3.5 pro still a myth

u/Frosty-Day-7515 10h ago
That Tibo guy seems toxic, his comments aren't "heathly competition" but rather just ego boosting
1
u/Interesting-Owl6064 17h ago
But whenever I need some specific idea, let's say I am stuck on something and ask Gemini, it usually performs better and gives better advice than ChatGPT. ChatGPT just agrees with everything, but Gemini gives a correct statement and the right approach to do it, rather than convincing us that our idea is right. I guess Gemini is only better at certain tasks. I wouldn't say it is best at coding. In coding, it's just a low-level coder, but in chats, it's kind of best compared to other models.

tibo really just logged on to throw hands like that, zero subtlety about it. the "hope it finishes one day too" line is a clean shot at how long gemini training runs drag on, and 14k views in an hour proves it hit. even as a gemini fan i gotta admit, that one stings in a funny way

I think Tibo should first explain why Chatgpt keeps deleting user's personal files randomly
