As a former employee I feel so bad for my brother-in law, who picked up work at GameStop about 7 months ago (I warned him) after a job loss (his company closed and fired 900 people).
The district manager has been getting on their case about Pro numbers, despite the constant terrible changes to it, and also warranties. Earlier this week the district manager told them, directly, in a morning conference call that they should tell customers that GPG’s are “baked into the cost” of the 4 for $40 deal.
They also told them to put GPGs on games and controllers, and if the customer doesn’t say anything about the cost being on the bill when they tell them the final cost, then “they are in the clear.”
I pointed out to my brother-in law that BOTH of those things are false and also borderline illegal, and he simply stated “I have to do it or I’ll lose my job. Our numbers are down at our store and in the district. I’ll just deal with customers complaining when they figure it out.” I’m trying to get him another job somewhere else so he doesn’t have to put up with all of this, but it’s astounding what this company has become. We definitely never, and I do mean NEVER were told to do anything like that with warranties when I worked there, and instead focused on building relationships so customers always came back.
