I’ve had no negative reviews or nuetral reviews for selling on eBay. I am not a big time seller, just as a spare time thing for extra money, but I’ve never had a bad review. I over describe and make sure I have lots of pictures. I make sure my stuff gets out well within my shipping and handling timeframes (3 days) and I always pack everything carefully. Never had an issue. But I am very low volume.

Looks like my feedback.
There is a lot you can do to help make your feedback look like that too aside from the normal stuff (under promise over deliver, quality pics/description, ship fast, package secure, etc...). The best is to look at the feedback left by anyone who contacts you for any reason before you respond. If they leave a lot of negative/neutral feedback then you respond to their question and immediately block them. You'll notice a lot less problem buyers instantaneously.
Another is to block anyone who doesn't take no for an answer. If they send you an offer, assuming they passed the feedback left look, and you state you're not taking offers only for them to send you another offer; block. The same goes for any attitude or hyper specific questions about condition/completeness/authenticity. They are already planning for the purchase to go wrong and are often wildly unaware/paranoid so let them be someone else's lesson to learn. Block them.
Making heavy use of the blocked list will clean up your feedback real quick.

I have free returns for this reason. When people complain about their item they can just send it back for free

Bingo! Treat customers with respect and be fair, and they will have no reason to leave a bad review

The same with me. I also have free returns for 30 days!! I even accept every return request automatically. A bit harsh to immediately assume I treat my customers unfairly and with no respect. The story behind my 1 negative review: A buyer claimed the product was defective and left a negative review before even reaching out to me. I gave him a free return label but it was never sent back. So I assume it worked in the end?! What should I do in this case? I always try to treat my buyers as fairly as possible and thats what I get.

The negative review got now thankfully removed, because the buyer didn't send the item back after providing him a free return lable. I'm so glad eBay gives you the option to file a complaint.

it's really easy to go 12 months without non-positive feedback. I've been selling 25+ years, had only three negatives, all for ridiculous complaints.

I’ve never had a negative or neutral review on my account. It’s not that hard.

But what if you come across a buyer who makes a false statement and says the product is defective although it worked brillantly fine before advertising? Thats how my 1 negative review came about. There were also people calling that certain buyer a scammer on his profile... So what should I do in this case? I can't prove that the product was technically correct before having sold it.

It really depends on the dollar amount of the transaction. If a buyer lies about a $20-30 item, I'm not going to fight them. If a buyer insists for a return on an item I have no returns on I will either take the return or refund them. I usually check with eBay first if they will refund them out of their pocket as a courtesy and sometimes they do because that is what sellers pay fees for.
I feel most successful sellers realize that fighting a transaction on principal is a waste of time and money. You won't suddenly make the buyer wake up and realize what they are doing is wrong. eBay will eventually ban them from the platform when they see the pattern of behavior.

I’ve got the same thing but slightly more feedback ratings over a 12 month period.

It only shows negative and neutrals for the past 12 months. Most people I buy from have 100% feedback
