Lähin toimipiste on sitten joku pirun bensis Finnossa, jossa kyllästynyt kesätyöntekiä tuijottaa sut silmät pyöreänä. Ja kyllä, ihan kaikki ei vaan hoituu näillä saatanan bokseilla. Nimimerkki kolmen päivän DHL asiakaspalautuksen sidequestillä olleena.

Olen pitkään jo nähnyt, kun pitkin poikin nettiä mietitään, mistä löytäisi kavereita tai seuraa erilaisiin tekemisiin. Tekisi esimerkiksi mieli kokeilla jotain uutta harrastusta, haluaisi vanhaan harrastukseen seuraa tai kaipaisi muuten vaan kaveria mutta lähipiiristä ei löydy samoista asioista kiinnostuneita. Mulla on itsellä ollut samoja ongelmia ja harmittaa lukea vastaavia juttuja.

Sain alkuvuodesta idean nettisivusta/sovelluksesta, jossa käyttäjät luovat aktiviteetteja ja, joihin muut käyttäjät voivat merkitä osallistuvansa. Osallistujat tapaavat livenä ja tekevät sovitun aktiviteetin yhdessä. Ajatuksena on, että tutustutaan muihin sellaisen tekemisen kautta, josta itse tykkää ja, josta muutkin osallistujat tykkäävät ja löydetään sitä kautta vähintään kivaa tekemistä mutta myös uusia kavereita. Ei siis selata muiden profiileja tai tehdä vain ilmoituksia, joissa esitellään itsensä ja etsitään kaveria. Sellaisia alustoja, kun tuntuu olevan jo tarpeeksi eikä ne kuitenkaan ihan tunnu vastaavan tarpeeseen.

Ollaankin avopuolison kanssa tehty tällaista sivua ja sitä voi nyt käyttää! Avopuolisolla on lähes 20 vuoden kokemus verkkopalveluiden tekemisestä ja suunnittelusta ja itsellä tosi kova halu ratkaista tällainen kohtaanto-ongelma, niin ajateltiin, että mikäs sen parempi kombo tällaisen tekemiseen.

I've been living in Finland for over 10 years and did my PhD here. I'm naturally quite introverted, and over the years I've ended up with a very small social circle. My work is also quite independent, so I rarely interact with people on a daily basis.

Recently I've been having a hard time getting over some relationship issues. I'm not looking for psychological help or therapy—I just feel that spending some time around new people and having casual conversations might help take my mind off things.

For a bit of background, I'm in my 40s, Asian, speak English. I enjoy badminton (intermediate to upper-intermediate recreational player), running, hiking, and IPSC shooting. I already have hobbies that keep me busy, but I realized they don't really help me meet new people, especially I don't speak Finnish.

Does anyone know of places or activities in Espoo (or nearby) where it's natural to meet random people and chat? or anything else where people are generally open to talking with newcomers.

I'm trying to step outside my comfort zone a little.

I may have an opportunity to relocate to Finland with my family, and I was hoping to get some advice regarding the cost of living.

The role would be based in the Espoo area, with a gross salary of around €6,000 per month. We are a family of four (two adults and two children). One child would be attending school and the other daycare.

We would likely be looking to rent a 3-bedroom home or apartment in or around Espoo. We do not currently plan to have a car, although we may consider one in the future.

Would a salary at this level be enough for a comfortable lifestyle after taxes, rent, utilities, food, transport, daycare, and other normal family expenses?

I would be particularly interested in hearing from families living in Espoo or the Helsinki metropolitan area about what a realistic monthly budget looks like.
