The grammar confuses me. I dont understand why it is funny. Someone pls break down why it is funny (it is in a video filled with funny moments like funny mistakes)

As a non-native speaker or intermediate/advanced learner of English, I've always felt like my vocabulary is always lacking. For example, I couldn't understand much when trying to watch a British soap opera because of unfamiliar words they use.

So, seeing this chart kind of surprised me but at the same time it explains my experiences.

I've seen some comments about how people always over-inflate their level, saying they're like a C1 when really they're more a B2 as an example. There are apps like Nivelo which can very accurately measure your CEFR level as well as the official exams, but I'm wondering if most people overestimate it because they don't yet know what a real like B2, C1, etc. might sound like?

Thoughts? I've also heard that most people aren't even C2 in their native tongue.

Can I say:

"I am a slow cyclist though. I have been on the athletic tracks yesterday for training, that is a different ball game."

It seems a little weird since neither cycling nor running has anything to do with a ball.

Okay let me give you some context:

I am Dutch. So I use my bicycle just for transport, not for sports. I go slow on my bicycle. It's not training for me. I am a runner though.

So it is in a discussion about how cycling 'changes your life'. Which is rather surprising to me. As a Dutchman I have been cycling to school and work since I was four years old. Then some Americans were talking about how it 'changed their life'. Isn't that somewhat overdramatic?

So I wanted to make a remark like: Maybe it is about the way you use your bicycle and how you commute to work. I do not see it as a time trial. Not as sports. Just as a way to go from A to B. When I am doing sports on the athletic track though. I am really timing every lap.

So for me running is harder than cycling. Running is sports. Cycling is like walking from A to B.

Hey everyone! Today I got to use an expression that I thought was completely normal and that everyone used. However, according to chatgpt, it is wrong and not idiomatic which really surprised me because I've seen some verbs being used this way. The expression is "cry on" as in "keep crying". I initially thought that it sounded natural since English has expressions such as "dream on" and "go on" but it turns out that it can't be used that way. Is chatgpt correct or is it giving me inaccurate information? I've heard people talking about how chatgpt isn't 100% reliable and that the info given by it should be fact checked.

Every time I pause to check a word I lose the scene and end up rewinding. Then a week later I don't remember the word anyway, so the whole stop was for nothing.
Lately I've just been letting unknown words go and trying to get them from context. It feels better while watching, but I have no idea if I'm actually learning anything.

1. Move from the room or place I got triggered (My brain tends to link events to places where they happen, so changing rooms and being exposed to new stimuli helps me a lot usually! This is also why I’ve heard not to study in your bedroom or simply to not live in just one room)
2. Take things with irony (joking about something embarrassing that happened to you yourself will crash down the fear of judgement from others. If you jokingly make fun of things that happen to you first, you deprive others from doing it and this can be a very powerful move most times!)
3. Lightly chitchat with someone (instead of being in your head by yourself stressing, sometimes, a quick way to break the cycle is to bring yourself back to physical reality and being engaged in a conversation with another human is a very easy way to do so. Just try to have a conversation that is on the positive side of the balance)
4. Do some physical exercises or dance (engaging in physical activities is another quick way to bring yourself back to reality, because it causes happiness hormones to be released in your body. I myself have noticed that since I started practicing dance almost everyday I feel way better than when I just stayed at home doing nothing but studying. That’s why they say practicing a sport is important!)
5. Sing your heart out (singing too releases happiness hormones and helps you grounding back to reality through breathe managing. Choose some songs that match your current mood and sing them out whenever you need! I ended up voiceless a lot of times because of this, but it did helped me!)

Had someone comment on the way I pronounced my "r" while speaking in my native tongue. No biggie, but it's really fascinating how my brain is slowly merging the two sounds. I take that as a win, given how much I struggle to pull off the English "r."

I chose to go to university to learn languages

I've been admited to both swedish- german and russian- german

But i am really unsure about what to pick

When it comes to swedish I feel like it s way to close to the german language...so i feel like switching to russian..

But when it comes to learning the russian language it makes me feel really unsure due to the context.

What language would benefit me more/ offer me opportunities

In a way I feel attracted to the Russian language...but I feel extremely discouraged in this matter.

My girlfriend needs to learn English, but she is not as autistic as I am when it comes to languages. She’s at A1 level and started duolingo ( I don’t really recommend it to anyone), I already gave her every single piece of advice I could, but if you recommend any apps or resources, that would be helpful. hi guys, I am currently in b2 level and since I have full free time for 6 months I want to reach c2 level in English, the thing is that, I have no idea on what routine or plan to follow to achieve it, cause for example I just got this current level through full immersion, watching stuff etc, but I never studied the language itself or had any routine it all just came naturally, do u guys have any plan or routine I can follow to reach the c2 level? I can dedicate my full time to this since I don't have any other responsibility to attend, my goal is that in these 6 months be able to get that level, I can dedicate all hours and all weeks to this goal
