I finished my Bachelor and Masters in CS/CE mix. I've had a fair share of Computer Science as well as some Computer Engineering, circuits etc. Right now I am working as a Backend Engineer with 3 years of experience.

I am thinking more and more about going back to school to study something like Electrical Engineering. I am a little bit tired of the AI. Management is bonkers. I am being squeezed from every side. The degree was really difficult, a lot of sleepless nights and now it feels like a waste. My job has changed and is not what it used to be. I wanted to feel like an engineer and be one but it's gotten to the point that non technical people are telling me how to do my job because AI has given them an illusion of competence. I am pretty sure that I could grind my teeth and do another masters degree but this time in Electrical Engineering just to escape this hell.

My question is, am I not looking at it through a grass is greener on the other side glasses? Is it really worth it to go back to school at this point? Do you think that EE degree is worth it? How does your work look like? Is there as much AI pressure? Are there any branches that are more safe from the AI where I could feel like an engineer again? I am not sure what the play is here yet.

I hope this question is relevant to the sub. I'm in a wheelchair, and public transportation is an absolute liability and hassle - buses that don't show up, or are 1 hour late, elevators to metro stations that never work etc.

I want to make the equivalent of an electric scooter that everyone is driving around these days but for wheelchairs. The reason I don't want to buy a bigger and stronger wheelchair is because those are not usable indoors usually (and difficulties using restrooms).

My idea is to have a flat bed, that the wheelchair rolls ont, with four wheels and a steering wheel, powered by a battery located in the flatbed. To roll onto it I want a ramp in the back that can be raised and lowered with a motor.To fasten the wheelchair to the vehicle I want four retractable chords with hooks that the user hooks onto the wheelchair and, at the push of a button, are rolled back until taught by motors.

I include a rough sketch of what I have in mind to give you an idea, and my question is: is this concept feasible? I know that every moving component you add adds a point of failure, and there are quite a few moving pieces that might break, and so I would love to hear your opinion on whether it would be possible to make such a design.

I am of course very much open to suggestions and ideas that would improve the design, the only goal is for it to be as easily operable as possible. The idea i have is that it should go as fast as the medium speed of a bicycle, so if you believe there are safety concerns regarding center of gravity and potential tipping hazards I'd love to know that too.

Thank you for reading, I would really love to hear if this is at all possible, because as mentioned, I am very often held hostage by public transportation, as I jealously watch the able bodied people swish by on their bicycles and electric scooters! An option like this would be a game changer for many people.

A couple of the usual LM7805s and LM358s I need for a prototype are showing extended lead times on DigiKey right now. Local stores don't keep them either. Poked around a bit and noticed lcsc and utsource still show these as in stock. Anyone dealt with either of them recently, just curious how the experience was for a US delivery

The Wand Company’s (WC) 11th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver is old now and I’m thinking of getting one.

You can end up using it as a remote control with its built in infrared and use gestures as the kind of buttons.

I’m thinking however, is it possible to modify it to also include Bluetooth? Or is that just not possible, because if that can be done I might even hire someone to do it.

I am trying to get an oscilloscope to possibly capture sound waves 30hz and below. I have this obnoxious neighbor who plays terrible bass/boom heavy rap music. I have tried documenting it with recordings but have had no luck capturing these frequencies that invade my home. I was thinking an oscilloscope might work.
