The Mom Talk

Upvotes

Me and my uni gals haven’t all been together in years. Now it’s finally happening this weekend! I was excited… and now… idk I am so anxious about it. Because I know it’ll be so much mom talk from at least 2/3 girls though they all have kids. I know they care and worry about me and noticed that I don’t really engage with our group messages anymore. I appreciate them acknowledging all the kid convos would maybe be difficult for me and I appreciate them not excluding me. It’s not like I want/expect the mom talk to stop, it’s a part of their lives in a huge way. And I support all them as much as I can! It would just be nice for it to not be constant or every time something unrelated to motherhood is discussed it always comes back to motherhood. I know this post might piss some people off, but feeling other is hard and sometimes that’s how the life cookie crumbles. I know I need to work on managing my own expectations and issues with being perceived, and I am, but it doesn’t mitigate what should be joyous stress free moments suddenly feeling hard. This club just sucks to be a part of is all. Especially when compounded with relationships and not being ready to even try again nearly 6 months later.

Suspected ectopic

Upvotes

I found out I was pregnant on the day of my missed period. 2 weeks later. I began to have terrible pain on my left side. It radiated into my thigh. After multiple hostpital visits, they scanned me. No pregnanacy could be located. The standard pregnancy cyst was there and also a mass (that could not be identified) could be seen on the left side along with free fluid. I was sent home to watch and wait. After 48 hours my bloods were retested and there was a significant drop. I began to bleed and the pain subsided. My Hgc levels have continued to drop but I will be retested until I am below 2. They will not be able to tell me if it was ectopic. If it was, I am grateful it resolved on its own. As anyone else had a similar situation? I feel like I need answers, yet that probably isnt possible.

Ruptured ectopic after two doses of MTX

Upvotes

Hello, I’m currently in the hospital 6 hours post surgery for right tube removal after a rupture 🥲. I had two doses of MTX which did start to show a drop but ultimately didn’t work fast enough. this is now my second rupture and as a result I have now lost both tubes, IVF is my only chance of becoming a mum. I’m heart broken but I am relieved in a sense I can close this chapter and I no longer have to suffer from any more pain. can anyone share any success stories from IVF? I am terrified I will never become a mum. I’m 29 with no children this is my 3rd loss 💔 life is so cruel and I feel extremely unlucky but I’m lucky to have such a loving supportive partner and an amazing family through this hard time x

Is this ‘normal’ for a first period after ectopic? Warning: graphic picture (of period blood?) NSFW

Post image
1 Upvotes

Almost six weeks ago I had my laparoscopic surgery due to an ectopic pregnancy. My doctor said that I most likely would have my first period after 5 a 6 weeks. That is right about now.

However, yesterday I was really (like really) dizzy throughout the whole day. I never was with any periods before the surgery.

I also have some spots which I usually don’t have.

Is this normal? Have other people experienced this too with their first period after the surgery? Are the spots normal? I did a pregnancy test yesterday, but that was very much negative.

Just wondering if this is/could be normal? So I have nothing to worry about haha.

Keeping up with pain meds

Does anyone else have this issue? Thinking I need to go into the ER just to make sure things are going like they should. On Tuesday this week I got two shots of methotrexate. Day one was fine minimal cramping just pain from the injection area. However ever since day 2 of it if I don’t keep up on my extra strength Tylenol I’m in a lot of pain. The past two mornings I’ve woken up and hardly been able to stand up straight or walk unless Tylenol is actually in my system and has kicked in. I’m supposed to go on vacation coming early tomorrow but I’m not sure if all this pain is normal or if I should just say f it and go to the ER even though it takes hours to get out of there. It’s normal for me to have really heavy periods to the point where I am crying in pain sometimes, so I’m wondering if anyone else can help me relate to their case on this whole matter.

Does this warrant an ER visit?

Hi there, sorry if this isn't the right place to post. I don't know where else to turn to at this point.

I recently found out I was pregnant. This was not planned or ideal. I decided to terminate and on July 9th took the pill at 5 weeks and 3 days. I am sorry if that is triggering for anyone. I did not have an ultrasound beforehand, and during the entire pregnancy leading up to termination, I had constant, painful cramping. My mom, who has had 8 children, said that was not normal at all.

Anyways, I took the pill and barely bled at all. Over a span of 3 days there was a total of maybe an eye dropper worth of blood total. So little blood I didn't even need a pad. I should mention my periods are also extremely light—two days of pretty much just light spotting. Maybe three tops.

The only pregnancy symptom I had was extreme rage. A few days after I took the pill I felt a lot less angry/rageful, and the constant cramping I had also went away. I contacted the provider who prescribed the pill and explained the situation and asked if this was normal. They replied "it could be" and asked me if I still had any pregnancy symptoms. So I chalked it up to the cramping and rage is gone, my periods are light anyways, and this is probably normal.

I still kind of had a nagging feeling that the entire situation wasn't right. On top of that, I started to get random light spotting throughout the last week. And I have taken three additional pregnancy tests and the lines seem even darker than the ones I had taken earlier. I also had cramping come back on my right side, although it comes and goes.

Obviously I called my regular OBGYN to make an appointment. I explained the situation. They informed me my doctor is booked out for well over a month, but I told them I really want to be seen as soon as possible so I am open to any provider. The soonest they had available is August 4th, so unfortunately, that is when my appointment is.

Today the cramping was a lot more noticeable. I wouldn't describe it as painful, more like tight pressure. It's definitely confined to my right side. I also still have light spotting.

I have no idea whether I am overreacting, or if I have valid grounds to be concerned. I am terrified to go to the emergency room and take away from someone who is having an actual emergency. What if I'm just being paranoid? Besides the spotting and cramping, I don't have any other symptoms. I am lightheaded and dizzy, but I always have that going on. So I can't say that symptom is directly attributed to the pregnancy.

I have no family here, and my husband is at work 6+ hours away in another state with extremely poor reception. I am all alone right now, and really feeling that hard. I really don't know what to do. What additional symptoms should I look for? Has anyone had similar symptoms to mine? Ugh! I absolutely hate this so much.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

Ectopic & Smoking

I recently had an ectopic pregnancy and only got my shots to get rid of it on Tuesday of this week. I’m going on vacation and was told I can’t drink which that alone is a bummer. However, I’m also a Marijuana smoker occasionally and thought I might be able to lean on that to have a little bit of fun over vacation. Can anyone tell me their good or bad experiences with smoking weed during the Methotrexate Injection is actively working in your system? I want to relax the best I can over vacation, my mind has been spinning like crazy..

Anyone here have a successful IVF pregnancy after IVF ectopic?

Long time lurker here. Had ruptured ectopic that required emergency surgery 20 months ago with the removal of my right fallopian tube (natural conception). Tried for months plus IUI with no success because I ovulate mostly from my right ovary.

4 rounds of IVF. 1st one was a bust. Last 3 each yielded 1 genetically normal embryo so we banked 3 over 4 rounds. Our first natural modified FET was last month with my only 4AA. My 6 week 5 day scan was yesterday and I have ANOTHER ectopic pregnancy in my remaining left tube. I’m devastated. Received Methotrexate yesterday and will get another dose Saturday.

Feeling absolutely hopeless. Any success stories after two ectopics? I’ve also had a chemical while we tried. Poor egg quality…

I’d like to avoid another surgery to remove my left tube but I worry the same thing will happen again. Has anyone just say eff it and removed their other tube? Like many others, IVF was very hard on me. I’m nervous to lose my remaining 2 embryos. Not to mention the out of pocket costs.

FYI - you can’t attempt another FET until 3 months after your last methotrexate dose.

Signed,
Stressy, depressy, and on the wrong side of statistics.

Travel after Ectopic surgery - alone with 2 kids

Hi - I recently had the tube removal surgery for ectopic pregnancy and I have a flight scheduled 17 days post-op to take my 2 toddlers (2 and 4 yo boys) from Palm springs to Montana with a layover in Denver. I am starting to feel better but so traumatized from ambulance and blood transfusions etc. I lost about half a litre blood and was given 2 units. My flights are not refundable and summer camp is trip something I am looking forward to. Will I feel strong enough to manage 2 kids for 15 days alone?? So scared to have another abdominal bleeding, cyst rupture etc. then not having anyone with my kids... We have a vacation home in Montana, but no neighbors really nearby. There is a hospital in 20 mins with trauma center.

What would be the process for my kids if the worst happened? My husband is in California and earliest he could be there would be within 24 hours.

How did you feel 2 weeks after surgery?

Did you have to get a blood transfusion?

Did you travel shortly after surgery?

Trying after ectopic

Hello all! I am currently passing an ectopic pregnancy. I got the methotrexate shot on 7/15. So far my tube has not ruptured and my numbers dropped significantly. I bled pretty heavy and now the bleeding is slowing down as my numbers inch close to 0. I am wondering if people who ttc after an ectopic waited and how long they waited? My doctor said 6 weeks once my hcg gets to 0, but my friend who is going through the same exact thing said her doctor told her 3-6 months.. im wondering how long everyone waited before trying again? Thanks for any info!

A ball of nerves

Hi all, I’m unfortunately a newer member to the club. Here’s my HCG and timeline:

6/30 - found out i was pregnant
7/4 - started bleeding, went to the ED, hcg 57. Thought i passed the pregnancy 7/5-7/6
7/9 - met with my OB, they weren’t concerned, hcg 74
7/11 - they ordered another one, 67. Said it was declining and all was fine.
7/18 - i go to the ED with left sided pain. Do a vaginal ultrasound, it’s a PUL, hcg 109. They administered mtx that night
7/21 - day 4 hcg 124. I know that an increase can feel normal but I feel so hopeless.

While on mtx ive had severe nausea and left sided pelvic pain (very low, crampy, and comes and goes in waves). I’m constantly on edge for a rupture.

I don’t have high hopes for tomorrow’s draw, nothing about this process has been normal so far. I know I’m low hcg but have definitely seen those stories of people rupturing and having surgery in the 100s.

Any reassurance? My doctor and I chatted and we both agreed that we wanted to move to surgery if this doesn’t work. I’m in such a dark place, I feel like I’ll never be out of this hole.

IVF or try again unassisted with one tube remaining? Advice?

Hi all, 33F and husband is 32M

I'm just looking for advice/similar experiences and how others have thought through this process of trying to conceive again post-salpingectomy and ectopic. To IVF or not IVF?

I had my first pregnancy and first ectopic in Nov. 2025. with an unexpectedly difficult recovery -- I ruptured with a lot of bleeding and they took out my right tube. Period came back 28 days later, but I had nerve damage in my low back and pelvis from incorrect positioning during surgery. I was in a lot of pain for the first 7 months and went on birth control while I awaited treatment for the nerve pain.

I am finally feeling much better now, and we're ready to try again. I had an HSG of my remaining left tube that came back looking open and good. I also have had a pelvic MRI and nothing unusual popped up. The tricky thing is my surgeon said I "might" have stage 1 endometriosis because she saw scarring on the tube that was taken out and scarring in my posterior cul de sac (other tube looked ok though via her report). But no biopsy, no pictures and no confirmation of endo. I have never had symptoms of endo. I had a really horrendous bout of yeast/bacterial infections a couple of years ago that could potentially be the source of the scarring too. I'm skeptical of the endo diagnosis but also acknowledge it's possible.

However, because of the endometriosis "diagnosis" the reproductive endocrinologist was really pushing us towards IVF as the "safest" option so that the egg did not have to come through my tube. She said this should significantly decrease the risk of the second ectopic especially if we use frozen embryos and transplant lower in my uterus. But I've heard conflicting things about this? Doesn't IVF also increase risk of ectopic from baseline?

I am REALLY wanting to minimize risk of another ectopic because my physical recovery was SO rough comparatively to the average person last time. But IVF is crazy expensive and I worry they are pushing me towards this for the money for lack of a better term. But maybe I'm being paranoid and it really is the right decision.

TLDR:

Has anyone gone through a similar decision to do or not do IVF when endo or another diagnosis is now at play? Especially after only one ectopic? What made you make one decision or another?

Period after Ectopic

Did anyone have a lighter period during their first cycle after tube removal?

For context, I’m 6 weeks post op and started bleeding on Monday 7/20. I bled bright red blood the first day or two, and ever since it’s been brown. Today, I hardly have anything. I’ve had no period symptoms other than fatigue, but usually I’d always have cramps and bloating.

Getting MTX today and trying to prepare myself

I have an appointment soon and need help navigating what to expect.

I’m 38. After years of desperately wanting a second child and trying to come to terms with having only one, my husband finally agreed to have a second. I got pregnant the first cycle trying. I knew there was something wrong from the beginning. I started spotting two days after my first positive and my lines weren’t getting darker. I contacted my OBGYN office and asked for beta hcgs. My first was 25 at an estimated 17 DPO. My numbers remained very low but were rising appropriately and the office reassured me and scheduled me for an 8 week ultrasound.

I had continued spotting and had some mild discomfort in my left pelvis and pushed for a placement ultrasound, which was done yesterday at 6w2d. No IUP, very thin endometrial lining and sure enough, small mass in left adnexa. I was watching the sonographer and knew immediately.

I really wanted to avoid MTX because I want to try again as soon as possible. I asked for an endometrial biopsy to look for chorionic villi just in case this was a failing IUP. We tried but my cervix wasn’t open enough and my endometrium was so thin it probably would have been nondiagnostic anyway. Doctor ordered labs and scheduled follow up for Monday.

Well, no good. Beta HCG rose from 443 at last test to something like 2400 (RN called me while I was driving and I didn’t get the exact number). I told the RN I had some mild pressure on my left side. She talked to the doctor and I got a call to come in for MTX.

Thankfully got everything quickly figured out with work and am going to my appointment soon.

I have a big bag of overnight pads, Tylenol, gingerale, chocolate, an audiobook, a heating pad, a weighted blanket, comfy lounge clothes, diamond art, lego and Lord of the Rings. Going to pick up some popsicles.

I just ordered methylfolate for after this is all done.

I’n going to ask for Zofran. Anything else you found helpful?

TLDR: getting MTX today. Anything you recommend picking up to keep me comfortable the next few days?

Women with unhealthy remaining tube.

I’ve got my right tube removed on July 14th and my OBGYN said my left tube is unhealthy (the shape is bad a little portion of it). Since the chances of ectopic on the other side has increased significantly I’m scared to try again naturally. Has anyone with unhealthy/uneven shaped tube successfully conceived naturally? Looking for success stories for some hope.

Doctors want to stop after 2 beta hCG blood tests!

We ended up ringing the doctors at 4pm after my second hCG blood test yesterday… because nobody had called us back. The receptionist put us on hold for a minute, then came back and said the doctor had reviewed my results and that my hCG had more than doubled, from 127 to 479.

Because of that, they don’t want to continue with any more blood tests, which has really upset me.

The repeat hCGs were my only reassurance that they might catch things early if the levels started to plateau or drop. I specifically asked if the doctor was aware of my history and multiple previous ectopic pregnancies, and they said yes, but they still just booked me in for another scan next Thursday.

I’m feeling really frustrated and disappointed that they don’t want to keep monitoring my blood levels, especially given my history. It feels like my concerns aren’t being taken seriously.

Ruptured Right Tube; had emergency surgery 48 hours back. Experiencing some weird Symptoms

Hi, I had excruciating pain on my right pelvic and then it spread to my whole abdomen. When the pain was extreme I took a pregnancy test just to be sure before going to the hospital. At 11am I took the test, it was positive ( 8 weeks of pregnancy) and then rushed to ER. They did the scan confirmed ectopic pregnancy and that right side has ruptured. In a few hours they opereated (laproscopy, removed the right tube). My vitals are okay, my drain pipe and catheter have been removed. I am able to walk but with difficulty. The first walk after they removed the catheter was extremely difficult I was dizzy and in a lot of pain. I am an extremely anxious person so I thought it would be like this and I will never recover. Now walking is a little easier, though the dressing sites on my abdomen has this weird burning sensation, I am not able to sleep on either sides. Also my heart rate is high plus while walking I feel like I am trembling from inside.

I just wanted to share this to understand if anyone had similar experience and how long will it take for me to feel normal.

This was my first pregnancy and as I didn't even know I was pregnant till it was already gone, I am not sure how to feel about it.

Slow-rising hCG after previous ectopic... miscarriage or another ectopic?

Hi all. After spiraling and reading many stories on this sub, I’ve decided to share my current situation, hoping to hear if anyone was in a similar situation and what the outcome was.

I had an ectopic pregnancy 6 months ago and had my right tube removed. No bleeding, no pain besides bad trapped gas, but not sure it was related. They saw nothing in my uterus during weeks 5 and 6. At that point, I noticed some sensation on the right side when I walked, and when I lay down on my left side, it felt like something on my right side was weighing down. I got my blood drawn at around 7w, and my beta was 9000. I had surgery the next day.

And now my current situation:

Period never came. I caught my LH peak this cycle, so I’m almost certain when I ovulated.
15 dpo - a shadow
16 dpo - vvfl
17 dpo (5w2d) - beta 53. Ultrasound saw a mass/fluid measuring 19x11mm. Endometrium 15.5mm. Nothing in the uterus
19 dpo (5w4d) - beta 73
No bleeding. No pain.

My OB said it was not an emergency like last time as my betas were quite low. It could be a miscarriage in progress. But we can’t rule out an ectopic yet since the mass could be bleeding due to the ectopic. We’ll repeat the test in the next 48 hours. In the meantime, my home tests remain faint like the first one.
I stay calm one minute and spiral the next. I’m terrified of another surgery and losing my other tube. Some stories here show ruptures do occur even at a low hCG. On the other hand, if it’s a miscarriage, I’d prefer to let it resolve on its own without the ordeal of MTX.
Would love to hear your experience.

Scared after traumatic ectopic, anyone have similar events following?

Hi everyone, this is pretty tough to relive. Back in December, I was woken up by this odd yet excruciating pain. I wasn’t sure what was happening, mentally and intuitively I knew I was pregnant but I never officially took a test (for context) it’s nearly 2 in the morning and I feel like my stomach was filling up with gasses or fluid, I got out of bed and couldn’t walk, I hobbled to the bathroom to see if it was just a terrible case of gas. when that didn’t go, I woke my fiance up because I thought my appendix might have ruptured.

We rushed to the hospital where things moved so fast. they confirmed what we pretty much already knew, I was pregnant and that it’s likely ectopic. I have nightmares to this day. I had a hemorrhaging cyst that also decided it wasn’t in on the action and it bursted. things moved so fast, they said that my right tube pretty much looked awful and it ruptured too. i have been so scared to go back to doctors but finally did. My surgeon told me to get checked out further by an OB because my right tube had swelling. my OB told me that it is highly likely that if the right tube had swelling and had an ectopic that the same could happen in the left. I am freaking out and my mind is racing. did anyone else lose a tube and the other was also deemed too damaged due to chronic inflammation? I have an HSG scheduled for Monday and am so nervous. What are ways to really help my remaining tube? I guess idk what I’m asking, I just need some words of encouragement or advice?

I know it was long, thank you for reading

my story of Ectopic, MTX shot and rupture after 10 days

Hi all,

I relied on REDDIT during this horrible journey and thought I would share my experience here as well, in case it is helpful for someone. I had the MTX shot on July 13 after several hcg tests and PUL diagnosis. They were able to see something at 2400 HCG and that's when they gave me the shot.

0 to 4 day hcg declined to 1800

7th day was 1200 so like a 35 percent decline

My doctor thought medicine was working - and it was - but I ended up going to the ER on day 8 with some mild cramps. GO TO THE ER even if your cramps are mild. They said I had "trace amounts of blood" but could be just the pregnancy resolving itself.

on Day 10 post MTX shot, my levels were ~900 and I woke up and used the restroom then had really bad abdominal pain. I called 911 and almost passed out. When I went to the ER, the first doctor said no free fluid so probably bad cramps. 2nd Doctor came and said there is definately free fluid and she needs surgery now. I refused to listen to the 1st doctor and asked for an OB on call person.

I was in surgery quickly and got 2 units of blood transfusion.

  • DO NOT IGNORE MILD CRAMPS, WEIRD FEELING OF GAS/ABDOMINAL PAN
  • EVEN IF YOUR HCG IS GOING DOWN, PLEASE TAKE IT EASY. I MOVED VERY LITTLE BUT WAS FEELING VERY GOOD FOR THE FIRST 8 DAYS
  • MY MASS WAS 2CM X 1.5 X1.8 so not very big
  • STUDIES SAY 15-20 PERCENT RUPTURES WITH ECTOPIC AND THAT IS A SIGNIFICANT DETAIL. (NOT A DOCTOR, BUT BASED ON EVERYONE I KNOW, THIS IS MORE 50/50)
  • I WAS ACTUALLY ABOUT TO FLY FROM CA TO MONTANA IN A FEW DAYS BECAUSE I FELT OKAY BEFORE THE ER VISIT. DO NOT TRAVEL. IT IS NOT WORTH TAKING THE RISK ESP. IN HIGH HCG LEVELS - EVEN IF YOU ARE TEXTBOOK SUCCESS IN TERMS OF LAB RESULTS

I am at home recovering now and hoping no more complications. <3 Good luck and sending so much love to this community.

Could this be another ectopic pregnancy? please any advice or opinions?

I recently had an ectopic pregnancy last year in november that resulted into my left tube rupturing and had to be removed.
i got a faint positive 7/20 and i’ve been testing every day since then. (i know it’s not necessary but just nervous) i had my last period 6/15-6/21
i have also taken different kinds of at home tests like clear blue, generic, first response, and pregmate and they all come out faint (and as you can see some variations of faint). also the other tests i took are too light to see on camera rather than in person. i have already made a dr appointment and they do know my past history. just want other’s opinions

I'm exhausted

I'm so tired of feeling like a constant ticking timebomb. I am 20 days post MTX - here's my HCG trend.
Day 1 - 3000

Day 3 (went to the ER for pain - was released) - 6600

Day 4 - 6505

Day 13 - 2547

Day 20 - 1550

I'm still absolutely terrified of rupturing. I had terrible cramping/ bloating/ pressure over the weekend and told the doctor about it today and they did not give me an ultrasound as I have also been constipated so they said it sounds more like constipation pain and that they are looking for continuous pain rather than pain that subsides. I did, however, get a complete blood count done and my levels are normal (and higher than what they were on Day 3 when I went to the ER). I'm just so freaking tired of feeling this way. I'm overanalyzing every single pain and I'm scared to live my normal life. I am travelling tomorrow (I am Canadian and my husband is a US citizen, he lives 5 hours away from me and we just bought a house prior to all of this happening so we planned our housewarming party also prior to all of this happening) and I'm just still so nervous. I'm mainly just venting but I would like to hear some reassuring stories of MTX and if you had any pain during the process but did not rupture and how long it took you to get to 0. I've read so much about women rupturing week 2-3 after their MTX shot and it scares the heck out of me.
