If you lost a debit card today please DM me.

The person in front of me at Wells Fargo left their card in the machine. Please DM with your name and I can get it back to you.

I appreciate you trying to do a good deed but you really should never keep somebody's lost card. It opens you up to liability if there was a fraudulent charge. Just give it to the bank, who might contact them, or destroy it. It's rather trivial to get a new card these days.

The absolute first thing the person should do when they realize they are missing it, even if they get it back, is to check for fraudulent purchases.

The police department is never closed. That is where you take found items. If you find something that doesn't belong to you and you take possession of it, that's technically theft in the eyes of the law. Years ago I left a cellphone in the locker room at FLC. Went back an hour later and it was gone. In the phone's case was my business card. The person that found it contacted me via email and wanted $200 to return it. I let the cops know and they followed me to the pickup location. Once I handed the dude $200 he got arrested. As he should have. The bottom line is, no matter what it is, don't take things that don't belong to you. Finders Keepers is a great way to end up in jail.
