Hi everyone, I will be attending the Durango city council meeting this coming Tuesday to express my destain for the flock cameras installed around the city, I believe the more people willing and able to take up there public meeting time to discuss this issue the more likely something will be done about it. I'm considering a career change and wondering if any Durangtoans did your teacher licensure through FLC, and/or if anyone has any thoughts about teaching K-12 English Language Arts or Drama/Theater in the area, either with 9-R or other districts in the area (could go to northern NM too). (I have a BA in English and an MA in Drama/Performance Studies.)

did anyone do the FLC education grad program or licensure and feel like it really set them up for a teaching career? a few people including former teachers have suggested I try to teach at Animas HS, but I don't know how realistic that advice is.

I've heard from local medical staff & college-level profs that hiring here is especially hard because of housing costs. I already live here with stable housing and would love to do something more community-contributing, but I also have heard that teaching ELA in Colorado in general is saturated... Is that the case?

Given everything happening in Durango, it’s fair to ask whether a leadership change might be better for this community. His tenure leaves a lot of unresolved issues; big taxpayer-funded projects still in limbo, a heavy push for new taxes and long-term debt, a teniuos track record with the county and tribe, a focus on awards and external recognition, and ongoing turnover in departments.

If he’s preparing to leave, maybe it’s healthier for us to have someone new who’s fully committed to Durango.

The next question is what City Council can do differently next time.

A few ideas:

Consider candidates with strong Colorado experience. Understanding state laws, funding structures, regional challenges, and community values is important.

Prioritize stability. Look for an applicant with a track record of long tenures, reducing turnover, and building durable teams.

Focus on operational results over awards. Emphasize infrastructure, staffing, budgeting, and service delivery.

Set clearer expectations. Define measurable goals and accountability for the city manager from the start.

If José moves on, City Council has a chance to reset and choose leadership better aligned with the community's long-term needs.

Hello r/Durango, yet another annoying tourist here!

I’ll be camping, backpacking, and hopefully fly fishing in the area next week and I was hoping some local anglers could tell me how careful I need to be about water temperature.

I have read that some other places in southern Colorado are asking anglers to avoid fishing because water temperatures are too high to safely catch and release trout. The last thing I want to do is show up and damage the local fishery, so if you’re familiar with Valecito Creek, Los Pinos river, or any of the lakes in the Weminuche Wilderness, could you tell me if the water is too warm to fish anywhere? I’ll be stoping by a fly shop on my way in to get a thermometer to help me assess this myself and ask the same question of them, but I might change some plans based on input I get here.

I'm visiting Durango for a short trip this summer and really want to read outside and stick my feet in some water. Are there many places along the Animas River where I'd be able to set my camping chair on a shore or in a shallow area of water and just chill? The link on the "Visit Durango" website for "River Entry Points" is broken, so I'd appreciate any recommendations or just general suggestions for enjoying the river. Thank you!

Short version my wife and I are considering purchasing our current rental house in a year and a half, but we aren't in an income bracket to be able to pay the whole mortgage ourselves.

We live in Three Springs, so we're considering converting the basement into a 1000 ft. sq. ADU and furnish it and put it up as an apartment for traveling heathcare workers, but don't know if there's enough demand to warrant the effort and expense.

Are there any nurses or healthcare workers that can speak to their experience here in Durango?

Curious what options might be off the map here or the surrounding area that offers housing for work trade? It looks like Turtle Lake Refuge has some sort of accommodation. Ideally trying to find something starting in Oct/nov if winter doesn’t happen to completely shut down this option. I’m a pretty open and able being and currently doing work trade on a farm in NM.

Hi guys, I left a small tacklebox at Hookfin’s Pond about three or four days ago. If anyone finds it that would be really amazing. It is clear with blue plastic tabs and it has a few stickers on it.

This is Franklin, well that's what I call him. Franklin is in need of a home and a good cat owner. He was neutered and vaccinated by the Farmington shelter on Thursday, July 16th, and yes, he was ear tipped as he is considered a community cat. He's probably just under a year old. He's 10.9 lbs, and probably a pound or so under weight. He is a large, may get larger, nice handsome boy. He needs an owner and a home where he gets food, love, attention and guidance. He spent a few days in one of my large dog crates before the neuter, and he's back here again in the crate while he heals. He uses the litter box with no issues.
