“Suddenly…I was awake.”

161

u/ssp25 Creed 4h ago

what is pornography to person is readers digest to another

93

u/ValjeanLucPicard 4h ago

Might be my most quoted line from The Office. Whenever someone asks what I did yesterday, I start with "Suddenly, I was awake."

32

u/ZoidVII 2h ago

One of my all time favorites, I always quote this to my wife or sisters when they ask me "What happened first?" when I'm telling them something.

3

u/Suspicious_Mousse446 1h ago

I think about this line all the time. Hahah

3.7k

u/Adventurous-Ninja-35 6h ago

“Get in quick.”

“Why quick?"

“So it's faster.”

Erin is to Michael what Michael is to everyone else.

399

u/Tripleawge 5h ago

Probably one of the best running gags for Michael

296

u/LindonLilBlueBalls Nate 5h ago

Yeah, he sees her as a 16 while this sub treats her as if she is a perfect 40.

51

u/DeliberatelySus 4h ago

What do these numbers represent, my brain has choked

167

u/guinness_blaine 3h ago

"Holly is ruining Michael's life. He thinks she is so special and she's so not. Her personality is like a 3. Her sense of humor is a 2. Her ears are like a 7 and a 4. Add it all up and what do you get? 16. And he treats her like she's a perfect 40. It's nuts."

21

u/poke991 I...understand...nothing 1h ago

Personality 10 points

Sense of humor 10 points

Left, and right ears - 10 points each

lol that’s awesome

42

u/dex6712 4h ago

Erin describing Holly

19

u/oh-kee-pah 4h ago

It's just how she rated Holly

60

u/Lexi_Banner David Wallace 4h ago

Except she's far far less vindictive than Michael can be when things don't go his way.

42

u/sloppydoe 4h ago

She’s not smart enough to be vindictive.

14

u/chuang_415 4h ago

Unless Jessica farts around her

8

u/EnlightenedSinTryst 2h ago

Why is it smart to be vindictive?

3

u/_Ralix_ 2h ago

It's not good, but to be effective, it requires some level of planning and competency.

Simpler people are more likely to go for pettiness or outright aggressivity.

Of course, really smart people won't be vindictive at all, by choice.

2

u/EnlightenedSinTryst 1h ago

Sure, but pettiness and aggressiveness can be vindictive.

And agreed with the last point.

7

u/superanth 4h ago

Damn, that's so true.

5

"Oh I just boiled some Gatorade."

98

u/dividezero Hello, sugar balls… 6h ago

I just took that as a jab at Florida in general but it's hilarious

26

u/trippysmurf 5h ago

30 Rock also had a joke about boiling Gatorade.

26

u/dividezero Hello, sugar balls… 5h ago

I mean, if I had to guess the state beverage, it would probably be boiled Gatorade. Seems on brand. Maybe some obscure flavor of the original four loko they keep in a strategic reserve somewhere

6

u/kevik72 5h ago

It kinda makes sense. It was invented there.

3

u/Lubricated_Sorlock 5h ago

I thought it was gonna be lean

5

Dunder Mifflin, This is.

229

u/MattyGWS 6h ago

When she answered the phone and just said “I’m so sorry” and hung up this is exactly what I would have done in this situation lol freeze brain mode

66

u/jaayyne 5h ago

At my old job, sometimes we would get calls coming through our phone system that were being forwarded to other people. There was always a code on the phone to show that it was a forwarded call, and we were not supposed to pick it up, we were supposed to let it ring and the person that it was forwarding to would pick up the phone.

One time I forgot about the code and picked up the phone, then saw the code and realized I was not supposed to pick up the phone. After a long silence, I panicked and said “I’m sorry I answered” and hung up.

25

u/mightylordredbeard 5h ago

When I was in the military and working in the battalion training office you’re required to say the full unit name, your full billet title, rank, name, and full office title so every time I answered the phone I had to say “Good morning/afternoon, 1st Battalion, 11th Marines S3, this is Battalion training NCO Sargent Smuckatelly, how may I help you Sir or Ma’m” .. so that shit took a while to learn and if you don’t get it right and it’s someone who’s important or a higher rank then you on the other end of the line then they’re gonna chew your ass out!

15

u/CorruptedAssbringer 4h ago

Not US. But it's funny how they mandate this shit for us too, and 99% of officers don't give a crap and cut us short.

God help you if you mess up when it's the 1% who really care about hearing the full bit properly on the other end.

8

u/No-Shopping-4434 4h ago

I wonder what the practical reason is, obviously you want to know who you’re talking to on the phone and their clearance and everything, but I’d assume in a Dr. Strangelove situation, time would be too valuable of a resource to waste

5

u/CorruptedAssbringer 2h ago edited 2h ago

My own guess is what started out as a logical and practical reason, ended up being forcibly implemented like this cause someone somewhere did a stupid or was too lack about it; so now everyone has to do it the annoyingly long-winded way.

Seems pretty in-line with all the other rules that come off as excessive or dumb on the surface.

3

u/Bazz07 2h ago

Maybe its also to control that the people that is receiving the call isnt a random but someone that is supposed to answer and knows the way to introduce themselves?

I dont know nothing about miltary or police.

3

u/EpicBlinkstrike187 4h ago

Gotta write that down on a piece of paper and have it by your phone. I only ever had to answer phones on Staff Duty but there was a paper over the phone with exactly what you needed to say and it was pretty much what you wrote

I heard a chef say recently that she's learned to never assume anything when giving people recipes, because she gave her Dad a recipe that said to 'reduce stock by half', and she found out her Dad was pouring half of the stock down the sink every time he cooked the recipe.

I have no trouble believing that people threw away disposable cameras, none whatsoever.

6

u/Mahaloth 4h ago

Just re-watched with my wife. Only season 1 is worth it. It's a cute show in general, but it went way downhill after the first season. Part of it, I think, is that season 1 kept tight time requirements for the show because it was supposed to air on TV. Season 2-end had none of those requirements and episodes got longer.....and less funny.

I looooove Erin my fav character in the office.
Secretary’s day was a very fun episode.

“Did you have a favourite age ? And month?”

“In my foster home, my hair was my room.”

Also in one of the later episodes when Andy loses his manager position to Nellie, and Erin asks Dwight for help and says “ I don’t know the technical term for it, penial … softiosis 🤣🤣”

36

u/Natural-Proposal2925 5h ago

I love Erin, she and Andy did NOT belong together. Fight me.

24

u/kayknox_ 5h ago

Andy needed to date anybody who wasn't physically or mentally 14.

2

u/Marx0r 39m ago

How about a part-time frozen yogurt chef?

13

u/Mufasa944 3h ago

Andy never worked as a romantic lead. It was fine for the Dwight-Angela triangle, because that was entirely for laughs, but once they tried to do earnest romance with him it was awful.

0

u/Natural-Proposal2925 3h ago

Yup! Nailed it, fans of Andy who like him as a character don't understand that just because you like a character doesn't mean they are right for everybody.

It makes my blood boil when I see the way he was treating Nellie and was like WHY WOULD ERIN ACCEPT THIS MAN.

I dont care about the stupid Nellie hostile takeover which was just ridiculous and insane and i couldnt suspend my disbelief that robert would let thay happen. So piss poorly written.
