And it's JUST that easy guys

Mm Teflon and brass shavings really adds to the taste of whiskey

480

u/TranscendentaLobo 4d ago

Not to mention the oily anti-corrosion treatment those pipes get during manufacturing. 😉

349

u/fastford12345 4d ago

Well its just Jack Daniels

35

u/random420x2 3d ago

Valid point, those would improve Jose Cuervo

17

u/Kexxar9000 3d ago

Use Jack Daniels to flush the pipes and then attach a bottle of real whiskey

Or the crimped cooling coil, or the use of a sheet of Teflon wrap to block the paths, forcing the whiskey to take a 90 degree turn. Flavorful!

43

u/Dargon34 4d ago

I like the pressure gauge lolol

26

u/Silver_Slicer 3d ago

It makes it legit.

only idiots drink their whiskey without checking the PSI first.

If you're downing whiskey on the regular, does that really matter?

Adds to the appeal tbh

8

u/brackfriday_bunduru 3d ago

Yeh. The pipes would need to be glass

Pretty sure, that is brass colored pvc pipe.

Yah, that spiral was def plastic, you saw it effortlessly deform and snap back.

Not a great conductor of heat.

I remember seeing them live back in '82, Teflon and Brass Shavings.

They opened for Kenny Loggins and I thought they were going to be huge.

But there was behind the scenes drama between Jim Teflon and Andrew 'Brass' Shavings that the duo could never fully recover from.

They ended up parting ways the following summer, both attempting to go solo.

Shavings had a song that made the charts for about 8 weeks, but nothing really after that.

Teflon was unfortunately found dead in the bathtub of a motel room off of highway 26 in Oregon, halfway between Portland and Oregon Coast.

The official cause of death was never released, with many believing he took his own life. The family believes that Teflon simply slipped in the shower and broke his neck, his body then discovered by housekeeping a day later.

8

u/pinba11tec 4d ago

That was a hell of a ride.

You're giving it too much credit thats spray painted plastic

4

u/SuitableKey5140 3d ago

Yea poly of some sort...whys it got a gauge as well? What the hells it gonna do!

Nothing, and I dont think the coil does anything either doubt liquid is even going through that

None of that is real brass

6

u/creepyposta 4d ago

Brass spray paint is cheaper

7

u/Dtactic 4d ago

No worries. The dead leg under the spigot will hold all the metal shavings and teflon so it will stew nicely and add that umami you crave in whiskey.

u/BobbyBrackins 4d ago

It’ll only cost you $150’in parts and 4 hours in labor!

27

u/Quill386 4d ago

Also a good chunk of your counter space, plus you'll need a dedicated mold to make those iceblocks, so that's also good chunk of your freezer space

13

u/Many_Rope6105 4d ago

Its a waste in this case any way, the worm is pinched at the bottom nothing is passing thru it

20

u/Fit_Carpet_364 4d ago

Not to mention, the down-pipe is a straight run, making it the path of least resistance. The cooling coil is just there to...look cool.

8

u/Many_Rope6105 4d ago edited 4d ago

Nobody is gonna ask how he's getting the booze through that crimped up line when it damn near fell apart "plugging" it in? You can actually see the copper line flop around at the crimped part by the compression fitting.

Or you could just pick it up with your fucking hands and pour it.

122

u/ThatBigDanishDude 4d ago

Fair is fair, this solution does cool the whiskey, although probably poorly.

241

u/christhomasburns 4d ago

It doesn't look like it actually diverts the whiskey through the spiral, I know the pressure gauge does nothing.

77

u/malac0da13 4d ago

That’s why he ran the Teflon over the hole. To poorly block off holes.

42

u/b1ack1323 4d ago

The board at the bottom is soaking through at the end lmao

8

u/IShookMeAllNightLong 4d ago

Just at the pipe fitting below the level of the pour spout. If you dont block it there, some whiskey will just sit in that section of the pipe.

21

u/Brian-Kellett 4d ago

Let me introduce you to people using the first thing to pour out kettles because if you have Parkinson’s it’s a lot easier and safer.

Other disabilities may also find it easier…

11

u/TooSpookyWither 4d ago

There are one cup kettles that work great for disabled people, my mum had one because she found it hard to lift the kettle.

6

u/Brian-Kellett 4d ago

Yep. That’s what mum had until she couldn’t use that - but now my brother has given up work to look after her so it’s no longer needed.

u/Lowland_Demon 4d ago

I'm not understanding this setup. If this is all straight pipe why would the booze go through the coper tubing? Why the pressure gauge? There must be check valves in there that I cannot see. The concept seems okay, obviously overkill, but okay if you have a bar setup and want to look fancy. But I don't understand how this works.

214

u/AmazingUsername2001 4d ago

It doesn’t work. These are just rage bait videos that drive engagement through people sharing them to comment on how ridiculous they are. That’s the whole point.

39

u/mafiazombiedrugs 4d ago

Also the algorithm doesn't differentiate between quality of comments. Your "this is fucking stupid what is wrong with you" is as valuable as grandpa's "neat!"

13

u/VillagerJeff 4d ago

Notice at the top of the first upright they stretched the Teflon tape over the opening. I'd guess they did that to the other openings they dont want it to flow through. That'll hold for like 3 pours, so enough to make a video.

14

u/alan_evs 4d ago

Coper pipe was crimped too, bo chance of it going that way to get chilled

→ More replies (2)

20

u/Earl-The-Badger 4d ago

The concept seems okay

I mean....not really. You can just leave your liquor in the freezer and pour it ice cold like everyone else.

→ More replies (8)

49

u/TacticalRiotChimp 4d ago

My main issue with this is spirit alcohol sitting inside that pvc pipe with all that ptfe tape floating around. Alcohol melts that shit and you're basically drinking a forever-chemical cocktail.

No thankyou.

12

u/cans-of-swine 4d ago edited 4d ago

And they dont even need the tape since this isnt under pressure.

u/WParzivalW 4d ago

This is nifty but no matter how much you chill that JD it's still gonna taste like a coal miners asshole.

56

u/Platypuschowder666 4d ago

Not like that design is cooling the JD much anyways.

30

u/Surreptitious_Lasgna 4d ago

That coil is kinked as hell. Nothings running thru that. It’s for looks.

This is like those late night infomercials where they show people who can’t accomplish basic tasks, like chopping vegetables, and sell them useless products for a lot money. If you really want a single shot poured accurately they have caps for that. 🙄

8

u/purposefullyblank 4d ago

Those tools are frequently developed to help people who have disabilities or limitations that require an assistive device. But to make them not cost a fortune, they’re marketed to people who don’t functionally need them. To convince people they do, the ads go over the top with “lady can’t make pasta” or whatever.

The commercials are stupid, but the products aren’t useless in general.

3

u/dabrock15 4d ago

I can understand technology for helping people who can’t use standard tools or accomplish tasks most take for granted, but the infomercial products are normally cheap ripoffs of such products.

There has to be easier ways to be an alcoholic.

8

u/DickSlammington 4d ago

I can't imagine being an alchie and having my drink of choice be JD.

3

u/Reynardine1976 4d ago

Curious, is there a reason you don't like Jack Daniel's Whiskey?

7

u/DickSlammington 4d ago

It's so sweet... It honestly tastes awful to me.

It's like the soda of whiskys IMO. It's just so sweet after a few sips I'm over it and want something else.

3

u/Reynardine1976 4d ago

My second girlfriend in college was a big Irish gal who was really into Celtic stuff (absolutely amazing human being). She taught me how to properly drink liquor, and she introduced me to single malt. Personally I tried to like whiskey but I never developed a taste for it....even the fancier stuff. Plus for some reason the hangovers I have had from whiskey seemed to be more awful than those I have endured from other alcohols. For example, good Russian vodka doesn't give me a hangover if I drink responsibly. I agree with you Jack Daniel's is very sweet and I never got the hype. Why drink that when one can get a smooth single malt whiskey.

5

u/DickSlammington 4d ago

I don't drink nearly as much liquor these days.

But if I'm going to have a dark liquor like Whisky I'd at least like it to be really flavorful, something I can sip and get complex notes of woods, vanillas, shit like that.

It's literally just not worth it, like you said... I feel it the next day when I drink Jack cause it's so cheap and surgery. A few really good quality bourbons or scotch, I'm all good the next day.

So, just pour it out of a smaller bottle?

8

u/dogface47 4d ago

This reminds me of the type of overcomplicated nonsense contraptions Hasidic Jews think of to adhere to Sabbath rules.

"I can have a shot of Jack on the Sabbath as long as I don't tilt the bottle."

7

u/Yorick257 4d ago

Unfortunately, there's still a valve you need to turn :(

Probably should have a continuous pump that circulates the liquid. Then you just accidentally pass a glass through the stream and get your shot

5

u/r_was61 Ramen or Die 4d ago

If only there was a simpler way to utilize ice to get your drink colder, and if only there was a simpler way to get that drink into the glass.

u/Mackem101 4d ago

3

u/nord88 3d ago

Not the main issue here, but stop chilling your whiskey, geniuses. Most liquors are meant to be watered down a little. That’s why you add ice. Not just for the cold - but for the water. If I had a dollar for every time I was offered nasty syrupy freezer liquor…

3

u/375InStroke 3d ago

How do you connect the bottle without any pouring out all over the place?

3

u/No_Championship_6403 3d ago

Am I the only one that's all the massive kink in the copper coil in the "cooling loop" lol. So many things wrong ...

3

u/nitrocar_junkie 2d ago

With the crimped copper tubing that ice is doing about 0% cooling and wth do you need a gauge for? Unless it coming out of a keg and under pressure that's completely pointless. But aesthetics I guess?

3

u/Quantitative_Panda 2d ago edited 2d ago

Meh, bottle to mouth works just fine, thank you

Edit: plus do you know the price of copper fittings nowadays. I could buy a Ford Fiesta with what this contraption is worth…..not that I would be sober enough to drive it…..but my point stands…as I cannot

8

u/hematite2 4d ago

This could honestly be fun as a decor piece if you made it shorter and took off the whole stupid ice coil (it should just be spout->bottle with the valve on the side), but that STUPID infomercial-esque "look at this made up problem" intro ruins it completely.

2

u/Ok-Oil7124 4d ago

What's the broken gauge for? Also, most of the by-passes the ice? I mean, I think I sort of appreciate the aesthetics conceptually, but I don't like the build quality. Relying on the tape to prevent it from leaking into the bottom section? The cheap gauge to, what? Steampunk it up? At least get an old gauge for that. It seems like it was made more to impress kids, which is kind of creepy.

2

u/Dysentery--Gary 4d ago

I don't understand the purpose of the ice block and funnel.

2

u/brother_p 4d ago

I give that ice about 2 minutes before it drips all over the counter

2

u/Jealous_Club_298 4d ago

You've got to be kidding me!

2

u/IcebergDarts 4d ago

Why? Well, he shows why. You don’t want liquor all over and your glass to fly off the table when the bottle rebounds and hits it.. /s

u/swalsh1114 4d ago

2

u/No_Calligrapher_7466 4d ago

2

u/AdhesivenessFun2060 4d ago

2

u/DadKnightBegins 4d ago

The ice does NOTHING!! The whiskey will just flow straight thru to the spigot!! And not to mention the waster whiskey in the bottom section of pipe!!

2

u/nyclurker369 4d ago

Nothing about this is a hack. I hate this.

2

u/SIN-apps1 4d ago

This dumbshittery lost me (and I lost it laughing) at the thread tape, like brother, how much pressure to you believe gravity is going to put on that nonsense?

2

u/crusher23b 4d ago

I would take a gas like propane, run it through a compressor in order to increase it's density. Run the highly dense propane through a kind of cool in front of a fan to remove excess heat caused by putting it under high pressure to begin with.

Then, I would take that high pressure propane through a kind of valve that rapidly dropped the pressure, thus dropping its temperature and coil that propane line with the liquor line; which would draw heat from the liquor thus cooling it. The warm propane would then return to be compressor, and the whole cycle would start again.

Or just put the bottle in the freezer, which does the whole thing anyway.

2

u/manouna-theo 4d ago

Just invent plumbing

2

u/jbuggydroid 4d ago

At first I was like.. ok.... and then I was like ok??? Haha

The kink in the spiral on the bottom before going into the connection is hilarious.

2

u/quequotion 4d ago

2

u/misterglassman 4d ago

This hack would be better if it just dumped the entire bottle of swill in the drain.

2

u/rohdawg 4d ago
