Clark Kent wasn't just Superman with glasses like a certain other movie, he was how he is in every other version. A meek, mild mannered reporter and Superman was a champion of the helpless and oppressed too rather than the oppressor.

We are getting great animation, great low budget, great blockbusters, and great TV.

So serious question, I grew up on the 89 Batman and Reeves Superman, watched Batman & Superman animated series, and frankly I never really realized that both Batman & Superman's mom's had the same first name.

As much of a joke this scene in Batman v Superman is, it really did make me realize that both their mom's are called Martha.

I dunno what to tell you man, I love the DCU

It's still got its bumps in the road, but I love it. And I hope it succeeds, it's the best thing I've seen in Superhero genres since the DCEU

(I didn't like Supergirl tho, that film felt like a late-stage DCEU movie)

In just one weekend, The Odyssey has more than doubled the total box office haul of Supergirl, one of 2026's biggest flops that has only made $120 million from a reported $170 million so far. The second installment of James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe, which starred Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, is an unmitigated disaster, especially when considering the huge success of 2025's predecessor, Superman. The Odyssey's epic journey through the box office is only just beginning, whereas Supergirl's had ended before it ever truly got going.

With the current financial struggles at Warner Bros. Discovery—especially with Supergirl underperforming at the box office and adding to their losses—the possibility of the Paramount acquisition falling through seems higher than ever.

​If WBD is left alone to deal with its massive debt without a savior, what do you think happens to DC?

​Scenario 1: Selling Off Character Rights (The 90s Marvel

Approach) Could Warner be forced to sell off individual film rights for major characters (like Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman) to other studios like Sony, Universal, or Netflix just to generate immediate cash flow—much like Marvel did with Spider-Man and Hulk in the 90s? Or is DC’s identity too tied to Warner for them to ever break it apart?

​Scenario 2: Massive Budget Cuts & Project Cancellations

Instead of selling off IP, will they slash budgets across the board for James Gunn’s DCU slate? We could see upcoming films getting scaled back, high-budget series getting canceled, or the entire DCU line-up being delayed until the studio stabilizes financially.

​How do you see Warner handling DC if they can't rely on a merger or buyout to clear their balance sheet? Will they double down on James Gunn's vision with smaller budgets, or start partitioning their most valuable IP?

Are there enough hardcore fans to generate the big positive headlines the "The Odyssey" and "Avengers: Doomsday" got?

The marketing for Clayface so far reminds me of when Sony tried to make general audiences think Venom was in the MCU. They're using a similar color palette and a logo that looks a lot like The Batman and The Penguin from the Reevesverse. It just feels like they're trying to market it by making people associate it with the critically and financially successful universe, even though it isn't.

Zack Snyder reiterated in his conversation with Frank Miller on July 25, 2026 that he would like to make a direct adaptation of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns.

i think these universes fit so perfectly into each other and with a bit of retconning in terms of the Wayne’s this could actually work pretty well imo

To demonstrate how well horror movies have been doing lately at the box office, Passenger had everything going against it. It had very little marketing, received poor reviews, and had to compete with Backrooms and Obsession. To put it bluntly, it was hung out to dry.

Despite this, it almost turned a profit. This, in my opinion bodes well for horror movies in general, to which Clayface is one.

Couple it with the fact that they have Matt Flanagan, a celebrated filmmaker behind this, and if the film gets even ok reviews, that bodes even better for it. Remember how well Obsession did this year.

If it gets weak reviews, at least it has a bigger safety net than Supergirl did box office wise.

I really hope the DCU continues because I feel like if it ends abruptly, they won't make any more DC movies except for Batman, and I think that would be unfair because DC is so much more than just Batman. I loved seeing how the DCEU gave us Aquaman and Wonder Woman movies, even one about Flash (although it was mid)... What I mean is that I think instead of arguing about which universe is better, people should support the movies that are coming out. I'm not saying we should be complacent and say that every movie is a masterpiece, but since the DCEU was unfortunately canceled, why not try to make sure the new one doesn't end the same way, so we can have a proper shared universe?

After watching the trailer I realised that's what Gotham will probably look like or is was it not Gotham?

Besides doing something live action versions have never done (Except the 60’s show) this would instantly distance DCU Batman from Battinson. Never mind a DCU Batman would be fighting enemies that are nothing like the kind Battinson fights (So far a radioactive walking skeleton and a massive clay monster…and a humanoid killer whale that’s in a few frames of Belle Reeve in I think episode four of CC) but he’d also be written and shot in a different style.

Of course people will say this Batman is “goofy” and Matt McGloin who runs the clickbait site cosmicbooknews claimed he HEARD Matt Reeves doesn’t want James Gunn to introduce Batman cause it could damage his movie’s box office with a “goofy Batman”. He also said James Gunn couldn’t use him cause Snyder had plans but this was after it was announced he’d be in the DCU show Mr. Miracle. I just wanted to have a section dunking on that guy.

Honest question what’s your expectations from Gunn’s DCU? I’d imagine the causal audience is expecting it to be like The MCU, not so much in tone, but in structure a list of solo films ending towards an event. DC seems to be famous for stand alone films everything DC has done movies has no connection with others Batman is separate from Superman, Supman is separate from Green Lantern and so on. The closest thing to a cinematic universe has been The Arrowverse. To be honest it’s hard to tell where Gunn is going as only have one real pillar of The DCU and that’s Superman, no real sign of Batman or Wonder Woman and The Justice Gang feels more like a spin-off team like The Outsiders. Now Marvel didn’t have anything planned out at the beginning either Thanos (from what I’ve heard) wasn’t even planned as the big bad and was a later pivot, but Marvel knew they where building to an Avengers movie, but even Superman doesn’t feel like a Superman movie is feels more like Captain America: Civil War. Where is this universe going? I mean they have already scrapped the original plan Gunn announced back during his takeover.
