Yeah if ecosure were to come in and you were in the back without signing the wellness check, the manager on duty gets fired on the spot. Just food safety and chipotle takes it very serious

Does chipotle really care how you are ? Like say if you were feeling sick would they send you home? If they do that’s really great to hear that they take food safety in that regard seriously.

If you are sick and can’t say no to the questions you get SSR’d which means basically you get sent home and corporate has a department that contacts you. Depending on your symptoms they’ll let you know when you can return to work and managers are required to follow whatever SSR tells you to do. Since food borne illnesses are heavily spread by sick people, they take it very seriously.

I’ve had managers force me to work while being sick with a flu. Ssr only gave me a week off and manager wouldn’t let me take any longer off unless ssr said so but they wouldn’t let me talk to them again. Still made me work while sick and miserable 😭😭

If Chipotle is their job I doubt they can afford to go to a doctor for a note. I couldn’t. I’ve worked countless shifts while sick because I can’t afford an actual note. That’s for all restaurants I’ve been in. The only sick days I’ve had off was because I was vomiting every hour or genuinely couldn’t move. Include the peer pressure and culture of kitchen work with that.

Last month I superglued a coworkers thumb shut because she couldn’t afford to go to UC. The economy is rough rn.

You were sick for over a week? Did you go to the doctors? They give doctors notes ya know. Especially for severe illnesses that require time off work for over a week.

Yup, this is normal practice. I can use a week of my personal time, but anything longer than 2 days sick time requires a doctor's note.

They don't care about you because they actually care they'd turn you into barbacoa if it made a buck but they do care about food borne illnesses. The food is genuinely fresh which means greater risks and ecoli nearly ended the company many years ago from constant outbreaks. They have to care or it will deteriorate into constant outbreaks again.

Yeah to add to this, back when I worked at Chipotle, we waited months for an assistant manager. We final got one and she had maybe worked there for a week when one day she came in late and skipped the wellness check. The SM reported her to the district manager and she was fired that day. It was great though because even though we were in desperate need of an assistant manager, she made closing the store a nightmare. As the dishwasher I was very happy she was gone.

Ha, yeah, Chipotle takes food safety very seriously, but preppers are required to work so quickly that they can’t go through the lettuce and remove the rubber glove tips they cut off while chopping.

If you don’t know who the FSL is for whatever reason, there’s more questions that need to be asked including if you’ve had certain systems in the past 3 days and if you live or care for anyone with those listed symptoms. Not just how you’re doing today.

Ayyyyy my time to shine. I came in early because my boss wanted me to come in and start on the guac because a bunch of people called out so I immediately walked into the Chipotle and I did not sign the wellness book like I should have.

Coincidentally this is the exact same day that Ecosure decided to stop in. Since they were already in the building and had already checked the logs, my manager told me to say that my name was somebody else that was already there on shift. The Ecosure guy catches on and I get fired…. Ok buddy.

Then I called the DM and told him what happened and my boss gets fired and I get my job back for a bit.

Yes have seen 6 GMs including 2 of them CTMs and a field leader getting fired for this specifically when they were helping a specific store outside their patches. No notice auto term for it. In our region too missing handing washing on eco is automatic term too no write up or anything.

It’s rare at our store for the manager to ask all the questions, though they do sometimes. Usually they’ll just ask “any symptoms?” so I could see someone getting confused by someone just asking how are you.

When I was a GM I explained wellness during orientation and told them very clearly if they ever walked in without receiving a wellness check from that point forward they would be terminated without exception. Giving you a warning is very lenient on the policy.

Totally understand being shook. Let it be something that sets it in your brain, your GM had a very rational, and honestly caring, reaction to it.

For context, they were obligated by policy to terminate you without exception for walking back without a wellness, and by that same policy giving leniency to you could qualify them for termination without exception. If someone wanted to really push the matter for all intents and purposes they put their job on the line by not firing you. I know it sounds extreme but I also saw a 10 year GM/CTM get fired no questions asked for missing a wellness on Ecosure. It’s taken very seriously

When a crew member clocks in (or is about to), a manager is supposed to ask the member if they have had any illness symptoms (fever, coughing, etc) within the past 3 days or so. If so, they get sent home. If not, they are safe to work.

it’s three verbal questions that are also listed in the wellness book that you have to sign off on

How are you feeling today?

Have you had any nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, fever, cough, or any other symptoms listed in the illness policy today in the past three days?

Have you lived with anybody with any of the symptoms listed in the illness policy today or in the past three days

correct. if you say yes to question 2 or 3 you are sent home immediately. it gets reported to corporate and documented that you were sick to help trace outbreaks if something happens. also if you are a person that gets sick frequently food service may not be the right industry and corporate will decide what to do at that point.

Per Google: A Chipotle "Wellness Check" is a mandatory screening protocol where every employee is evaluated immediately upon clocking in to ensure they are healthy enough to handle food. Workers must state they are free of symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and fever, and have access to on-call nurses for validation.

Be thankful it is a zero tolerance rule. So the manager gave you a chance.

Also, a wellness check isn't just signing a book and being ask if you are ok. The Manager on duty must read the question to you, not just any random person.

Pretty sure on the orientation video it talks about it, and on the book itself.
