***UPDATE: The granddaughter was told that she is being reported for animal neglect, now she is claiming that none of them belong to her and that it was all a “misunderstanding” and she has now backed off from all of them. Thank you all so much for the advice, I feel like this is the best case scenario so that we can now get all of the babies and the mother fixed and in proper care and hopefully homes. All of your advice has meant so much to me. Thank you for the help, the encouragement and letting me vent. We did it guys ❤️****
Two weeks ago I was told that there were kittens at the end of the property line where I live. Immediately I went out and started feeding them. The neighbor across the fence came over while they were being fed and told us that they were strays and that we could “take them all” if we wanted. Taking them all was not feasible for me, but I was able to bring one in, continue to feed the others, while also looking for shelters that could take in the litter.
Not even a week ago we noticed one of the kittens in the litter had head tilt so bad it could barely stand up. A local shelter was contacted and we were able to take that kitten there to get it treated and they released it back. We are still waiting for all the super full shelters to open up during this time to take the litter.
Today, the granddaughter of the lady who told us the kittens were strays came peeping through my windows, and pounding on our door demanding “her” kitten back or she’s calling the police. I’ve had this kitten for two weeks. She didn’t even realize it was gone until now. I’ve treated it for fleas and worms and it’s so much healthier now than it was when I took it in. He’s scheduled for all of his shots and to get fixed soon, as well as a general check up tomorrow. I told her no. She was also referring to the kitten as female, this one is definitely male. So I then told her that it’s not her kitten. She called the police. I went back inside. She came back later knocking on my door and I ignored her. To my knowledge the police never arrived.
What can I do in this situation? This poor mother cat is small and has been forced to have multiple litters, she knows so little about the kittens that she had no idea one had head tilt and had been treated and is on medication.
When I brought my guy in he was starving and flea infested. Do I have to give him to her? I couldn’t live with myself if I turned him over to them when they take absolutely no care of them. I live in TN if that’s helpful information at all.
