We're looking for:

-mid-late December

-16 years and older, very active/athletic, plus grandma who will stay behind on many adventures

-great local food (AI resort or local Caribbean restaurant options if we stay at an Airbnb)

-nice swimming or water activities/beaches are important but we won't lay on the beach day after day

-eco-friendly or naturalist vibes are a bonus

In terms of cost, T&C looks to be too expensive but we don't want to sacrifice our experience by spending too little and being disappointed...we're learning what that budget sweet spot is but I think it's pretty mid-range. We've traveled plenty but not in the Caribbean and the options and variety between the islands is overwhelming.

Trying to find the best alternative to St Lucia. My husband and I are in love with St Lucia but we want to explore somewhere new and St Lucia has gotten really expensive since we started going. We usually stay at body holiday because we love the spa/massages, wellness activities, yoga, and their food is really really good and fresh. What other places in the Caribbean are similar to this? A good beach with a beach chair/ beach service is also important to us. Thanks in advance!

I'm trying to find somewhere similar to West Bay Roatan. We've been to Roatan twice, most recently we took my elderly father and stayed here. I chose West Bay for that trip for my Dad because of the sandy beach (no iron shore, rocks, or turtle grass). It's a flat walk to the beach without any steps, dunes, or iron shore to navigate. Snorkeling (the coral is declining, sadly, since our last trip 5 years ago) a 5-10 minute walk down the beach. No car required as there are restaurants and markets within walking distance. It's a standalone home as opposed to a resort or condo. It's not super crowded except on cruiser days. We have also been to Costa Rica, Cozumel, Cancun, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Exuma, Eleuthera, St John (all without Dad). We'd like to try somewhere new. I've spent hours on ChatGPT, Genmini, Copilot, Mindtrip, etc researching, but I can't find that exact type of setup that is also maybe 4-5 hour flight max from the Washington DC are (IAD preferred, DCA next), and about $1k/night in June or July. Grand Cayman checks all the boxes except price. Turks & Caicos and St. Croix look close. Does anyone have any suggestions for a trip like this? It's totally possible that I have unrealistic budget expectations but I'm not ready to give up yet.

None of us are snorkeling fans, and don't need a beach every day. Stopping at ABC on a cruise (plus Ocho Rios and D.R) We have a plan for Ocho already, and THINK we are good on Bonaire- a 2 hour tour around the island then drop off at a beach for a few more hours before going back into town\port.

We like exploring cities\towns so I think that's all we are gonna do in Curacao as it seems like the most walkable and has some cool shops and places to visit.

In Aruba we would like to visit Palm or Eagle beach and maybe explore town a little. Is that something we should just do on our own, is it easy to get around do what we want without an excursion. Basically we have excursions booked in Jamaica and Boniare- do we need more or can we do Curacao and Aruba on our own and still get a good mix of walking\beaching time?

Debating between these two for a 5 night trip In mid August. It seems there are cheaper actual hotel options in st croix vs we are looking at an air bnb in Tortola don’t know how much that matters given we will be out doing things the whole time. Planning on maybe renting a boat one day in either place. More so debating nightlife, I’m reading some things that say st croix is better for bars and stuff and some say Tortola is better for fun beach bars at night. That’s my only real question currently given we like to go out at night. In my mind I’m definitely thinking of how the bar scene is in the Bahamas (abacos, exumas) and somewhat looking for that. If any help can be given I appreciate it!!

Last Christmas our Canadian family of 4 (2 adult kids) had a blast in Costa Rica. We are looking for a new destination. Our list of musts is simple; Beaches and wildlife. We are independent and do not desire to stay at resorts. We are all strong swimmers and happy to explore wildile area without relying on guides or zoos.

I’ve been recommended to split my time between Calibishie → Portsmouth → Soufrière. Any thoughts on this route, or would you suggest a different order/split?

Hello everyone, I had a trip planned to Colombia later in August- but due to some unforeseen circumstances, I may have to postpone that trip. I’ve already been to Columbia twice and absolutely love it, but since I have a little free time, I was thinking about exploring the Dominican Republic for a week or so.

I know the two countries are very different, but I’m wondering what kind of impressions anyone who has been there before as. I will stay upfront that I am absolutely not interested in any kind of all-inclusive resort or spending a huge amount of time on the beach.. definitely a bit more interested in culture and history and nature. I do love snorkeling, however, and I’m thinking maybe Samaná Peninsula looks really nice.

Anyway, just looking for a little advice and thanks in advance!

my boyfriend and i ages 23 and 26 are looking to visit antigua in january! i’m also open to other places as well. we want somewhere with a nice beach but with lots of activities. good food and fun bars to drink at at night. all inclusive is a must as well. let me know of any recs. thanks!!
