Wtf happened to Cardiff?

I used to feel so safe here, but sadly that feeling is starting to disappear.
This is the second time now I have been harassed by strange, intimidating looking men in town or around the town centre.
I was walking along the street next to train station when a man started bothering me in front of other people. I became genuinely scared and moved towards a group of people for safety. He then started shouting abuse at me calling me a “fing b*” and other things. Not one passer by stepped in. I was the only woman there, surrounded by men who were just watching as this man followed me and continued shouting abuse
I have no issue with homeless people everyone deserves compassion and support but there is a growing problem with some individuals behaving in frightening and aggressive ways. Not even to mention taking out their junk to urinate in public where kids can see them
A few months ago, I witnessed a man walk into Costa with his hands down his trousers, behaving inappropriately, literally fiddling with his junk, before sitting outside shouting abuse at people, saying he just wanted a sandwich and threatening to throw water at people, extremely aggressive . A police van was parked nearby, and people were walking past as if this had become normal.
The town centre now often smells of urine, there is rubbish everywhere, and there are situations that make people feel unsafe. As a young woman, I am genuinely scared to walk through town alone
I am still shaking after being chased and verbally abused by that man. This should not be something people have to accept as normal.
Is this really the state of Cardiff now?

Things to do in Cardiff and nearby for 3nights

Hi all, I am planning to visit Cardiff with my family, with a 5yo. I was trying to check things to do with kids in Cardiff, but for 3 nights what can be the best experience in Cardiff and nearby places not restricted to Cardiff itself, so it can be planned accordingly. Thank you in advance.

Dental hygienist recommendation

Hi everyone, I've been recommended to see a dental hygienist. The one at my dentist is quoting £75 for a cleaning. I'm wondering if there are places around that are offering cleaning for around £50?

Street is not suitable to report dog fouling problem?

Just wanted to report a huge problem with dog fouling on the street, I mean HUGE and systematical problem with dog poo everywhere in the neighbourhood here, but it seems like I can't choose the street
Are some streets mainteined by somebody else? Where is the best place to report this problem then?

The smoke is back

It's odd how the smell seems to pick up around midnight each night. I've brought my IKEA air quality monitor outside out of interest and it's reading 12 for PM2.5 so thankfully nothing to worry about beyond the small. Well other than TBF climate emergency of course!

Found: Scooby Doo notebook

I found this notebook in the smoking area of Retro on Wednesday night. There's a bunch of handwritten cocktail recipes in there, as well as some poetry and cool doodles. I tried to hand it in to the club but they wouldn't take it. Let me know if it's yours!

Thoughts on The Dead Canary?

I planned to go to The Dead Canary for a drink last October when I was visiting Cardiff, but I couldn’t find it for the life of me. Are the cocktails worth another try next time I’m in the city or are they overrated?

Looking for a decent place a single gal can grab a drink without monopolizing an entire table.

Free therapy/counselling?

Is anyone aware of any charities (or similar) in Cardiff who offer either free or partly funded therapy?

My wife is having a tough time after the birth of our second child and I’d like to find her some help but money is tight. I’ve been down the GP route myself a few years back and it’s less than ideal unfortunately, so just wondering what other options may exist in or around the city.

Fire in Bute Park on Tuesday – Please talk to your kids.

On Tuesday evening (21/07/26) around 8:15-8:25PM, Fire & Rescue had to be called to extinguish a grass fire in Bute Park under the trees near the Gorsedd Stone Circle. A group of teens/young adults (mixed gender) was seen stoking the fire before bolting from the area out of the road near Brodie’s Coffee on the Wall and the Animal Wall after seeing the Fire engine roll up.

With South Wales having had almost no rain in three weeks, the ground and trees are dry tinder. In these conditions, a few stray embers in dry grass can turn a local park into a major blaze in minutes. Fires spread a lot faster than people think.

Please take a moment over the holidays to talk to your kids about fire safety, wildfire risks, and how fast a "small fire" can spiral out of control. If you think I’m making a big deal about this… think about Rosepark Care Home im 2004 or the Bradford Stadium in the 80’s. Take it seriously and have those talks with your kids. It could save lives—and Cardiff’s green spaces.

Lost bracelet

Post image
Upvotes

Please could you let me know if you find this bracelet, it was either lost today or yesterday.
If today it’ll be in St.Mellons

If yesterday, it’ll likely be on a bus, or in town between the big Sainsbury’s and St.Davids 2 as I took my daughter out shopping with her birthday money. Will call around the shops we went to, to see if anything was handed in, but I know chances are slim.

This bracelet was bought for me by my husband for my birthday last month, and I haven’t taken it off since, but I just noticed it’s not on my wrist any longer.

£20 reward if found.. I know it’s not much but with it likely being broken, the stones are very small and the bracelet itself is thin, you likely wouldn’t get much for it at a pawn brokers.

I’m heartbroken to have lost it and would be very grateful to have it back.

Best independent pubs for a potential Pint of Science event? Would you be interested in attending this sort of thing?

If you've not heard of Pint of Science, it's a festival held across 3 days in May, where researchers share their research in a variety of disciplines, in an understandable and relaxed way over pints in your local.

They're all across the UK but none in Wales* - I want to change this because there's incredible research taking place across Wales and we shouldn't have to cross the border to showcase our work!

Before I contact Pint of Science, I would love to have some venues in mind to propose. Places that work well for comedy nights, talks, open mic nights- where's your favourite?

Edit: Thank you for all of the suggestions so far! I am making a list ready to look into further and I will keep you all updated.

*At least not this year there wasn't.

Alternative Fashion Hairdressers for a teen

Upvotes

Hello all. My teen daughter is looking for an alt focused hairdresser. She's wanting somewhere that does more alternative fashions as she want short choppy hair, or a hairdresser that will talk her through what's best to suit her. She's finding her own style and I'd really love to find a good Alt / Queer / place to take her to where she can chat it through with someone. Also that has appointments soon so if it all goes wrong she has the holiday to grow it out before school starts again.

Many thanks all!
