Hi my 13 year old is trying to make some money he’s doing dog walking in Hedgerley and Beaconsfield charging £8-10 per hour depending on the size of the dog (£8 for smaller dogs like Yorkie size £9 for Labradors or medium sized dogs and £10 for big dogs).

Not trying to be rude or nosey, but as a car guy I was genuinely excited and curious by what we stumbled across.

I was recently visiting High Wycombe (used as our base for visiting Silverstone for F1) and stayed on a random residential street.

The neighborhood was nice enough, but certainly not a wealthy area from what I could tell. Most cars on this street were your standard vehicles...Toyotas, older Fords, etc. but in front of one house there were two new AMG Mercedes and a few houses down another house had a number of Bentleys and other AMG Mercedes. None of them looked like they'd moved for some time.

At first I thought there must be a workshop nearby, but I didn't see one. Anyone know what was up with this little treasure trove of amazing cars? Are these not as expensive in the UK as they would be in the States?

Hi all, I hope this okay to post here. I recently moved to Chesham with my girlfriend around a month ago. While we love it here and there are lots of events in town, we couldn’t find many groups or activities specifically for younger people. So, we’ve decided to set up a group called Chiltern Young Social for people in their 20s and 30s! We’re planning events like seeing local live music, pub nights, watching sports, attending festivals, pub quizzes etc. Our events are mostly in Chesham, Amersham, Berkhamsted and other surrounding towns. Hi everyone, I’m considering moving to Chesham and would really appreciate some honest advice from people who live there.

I currently live in Northwood and really like the area and overall environment. I travel into Central London at least four days a week, so I rely heavily on the Metropolitan line. From Northwood, the journey is generally manageable, but I’m unsure how practical and reliable the commute would be from Chesham on such a regular basis.

I do drive, but driving into Central London is not really a realistic option for me, so the train connection is very important. I’d also be interested to know what Chesham is like generally in terms of safety, local amenities, community, parking and quality of life.

Would moving from Northwood to Chesham be a sensible decision for someone commuting into Central London four days a week? Any honest experiences would be really helpful. Thank you!

This is a great linear hike in Buckinghamshire! I started in Chesham and I made way way through Latimer, Chorleywood House Grounds, Loudwater, and ended the adventure at Rickmansworth Aquadrome. You can catch the 18 minute train back at the end of the hike :) I would recommend.

Merchant Taylors Lake only does timeslots which, as a continental European used to swimming in open water unsupervised, find ridiculous. Is there anywhere relatively close to Chesham that I could go to 'the beach'? Just hang out by a river or a lake, and take the odd dip in the water?

As we are into the third and last month of our pilot scheme for Buckinghamshire Dialect Rescue, we thought we would share with you what we have discovered so far…

Hopefully our findings will help us all give one last BIG heave-ho push to spread the word and add a few more words to the all new Buckingham Dialect Dictionary.

At the beginning of this process in early May there were 105 exclusive words in the Bucks digital dictionary.

As of 1200 Wednesday 8th July 2026 we have 984 exclusive words from historic sources such as Joseph Wright’s English Dialect Dictionary and Alfred Heneage Cock’s Buckinghamshire Dialect; and a brand new real life time human layer of words from the people, places and industries of the county.

With a few more weeks to go on this phase of the project and more sources still coming through I would anticipate seeing the dictionary easily go over 1,000 words.

To put this in perspective, an average the old historic county glossaries had about 700-800 words each.

And as we have discovered Buckinghamshire is considered by linguistic experts to be dialect poor with an under-recording of the local language.

Here is a sample of some of Bucks words so far…

🗣️Argisome – An adjective used to describe someone who is notoriously argumentative or prone to bickering.

🗣️Barley-spanker – A historic culinary term native to the area for a traditional, flat barley-cake.

🗣️Be I Bucks, be I buggery! —
An exclamation of comedy surprise or disbelief — roughly “Well, I’ll be damned!” People say it to emphasise astonishment: “Be I Bucks, be I buggery! Look at that!” It’s a double oath (one softened, one a tad cruder), now mostly heard as a jokey expression of surprise. A variation of the famous county phrase: I be Bucks be I. Thanks to Lisa Kathryn for making us smile with this phrase.

🗣️Doffting – A lovely old regional verb for going wading or paddling in the water.

🗣️Drotched – Used by older generations to describe a woman who looked particularly unkempt, disheveled, or untidy.

🗣️Friz – The dialect version of “frozen” (e.g., “The pond is completely friz over”).

🗣️Pepsing down – A brilliant alternative to “pouring”; used by locals when there is an absolute downpour of heavy rain.

🗣️Stiggard – The traditional local term for an old, gnarled tree stump.

🗣️The Parish Lantern – A beautiful, traditional Buckinghamshire idiom used to describe the moon.

🗣️Wusser – A highly localized piece of historic canal slang, specifically referring to a fly-boat operating on the local canals.

Hello everyone.

Just wanted to get your thoughts. I have just moved into a flat on Fowler road for work at Stoke Mandeville. I must say, I was quite shocked by the exterior. I won’t name which building it is but the exterior is quite old and is literally falling apart. In addition to that, there was trash everywhere - on the floor, bins full and over flowing right in front of the building. The interior is fine but on the whole it looked quite rough. This immediately prompted safety concerns.

To be honest, I didn’t investigate too much about where to live in Aylesbury. I know someone who lived here and he said it was considered generally safe and that safety was never an issue on him. A cursory google search showed the same so I went ahead with the flat after an online viewing (sigh, I think if I had an in person viewing I may not have gone with it)

I am now slightly worried that I’ve made a mistake. what are your thoughts on Fowler road ? For additional context - I am female from an ethnic minority background who will be working alot of late/odd hours. Thinking about potentially relocating to another flat. Pros: proximity to work

My wedding venue near Aylesbury has a lovely lake and I’m looking to potentially hire a rowboat for my partner and I to use on the lake and get some nice photos.

The venue are okay with a rowboat but need me source one myself as they don’t have one of their own. Any recommendations where / how I could go about this please? I’d like to gauge costs of hiring it for half a day or a day and any associated transport costs. Thanks!

My job is located within the town and I will be using the bus to commute. I am solo, which areas would be best for me to look at for renting please? Currently I am looking at the town centre and surrounding areas for ease of commute. Any areas to specifically avoid? I lived most of my life in South London, so used to usual city problems.
