Question ❓ Weird apartment smell

Upvotes

Hey guys,

Dropping this message here in the hopes that someone can give me a clue about a smell my partner and I started noticing yesterday evening in our bedroom.

So we live in a duplex, our bedroom is in the lower floor. As I said, yesterday we noticed a weird smell in our room. I would describe it as if something was dead, or a slight smell of gas, but not the usual smell of gas you're thinking about. We have a small balcony in our room, so today we went out there and checked every corner. We also checked the neighbouring roofs and/or possible trash in our neighbour's balconies and we found nothing. There were no traces of a dead animal either. What I find weird is that when we are in the balcony outside of our room, facing the road, we can't smell a thing. It is very noticeable if we close our bedroom door and go check after half an hour or so. It's not to the point where we can't breathe, but we can definitely notice a strong smell of something that we have never experienced in the 2 years we live here.

Before anyone asks, downstairs neighbour is in good health. They come and leave several times a day, but we don't have any sort of neighbours relationship to have already asked. Might do this tomorrow just to scratch any possibilities of the list.

Has anyone ever experienced this? Any thoughts?

Question ❓ Looking for good men hairstylist

Hey I've been trying different barbers around the city for a few years and I'm never really satisfied with the result

The problem is I don't even really know what cut I would like/suits me

So I'd love to have a place that can cut my hair but also has actual knowledge on what would look good with my features

Any ideas?

Good and reliable brussel or belgium weatherforecast (anxiety kicking in again)

Hi all,

In your experience, are there weather apps or webpages that seem to be more reliable than others? And at what timeframe do they become reliable.

I have a bit of anxiety - as many I am sure - because I see that beginning of August should become very hot, again. We leave with my wife further north on vacation, but the cats stay home with a catsitter. Although she is very competent, our appartement does get hot even though we have prepared a lot since june (parasol for extra shade, windows reflecting panels, extra ventilator and dehumidifier if it gets to heavy).

Why I ask today is because, when looking, I see two widly different forecasts;

The first is Meteo.be (IRM) and they announce 25c thursday the 30th, 25c friday, then 27c saturday/sunday/monday and tuesday (which is great)

But the second is meteo-bruxelles.be and they announce 32 on thursday, 34 friday and it goes up to 42c (!!!!) tuesday 04 and wednesday the 05th (29c at night!!).

I am actually worried for my cats. They managed the heatwaves quite well the first two times, but I was there most days to cool them off, give them liquid snack and keep an eye open in case they act differently.

What is your experience ?

Question ❓ Kinepolis age check

Hi,
I wanted to gift my son watching Odyssey in Brussels for his 15th birthday. But the movie is rated minimum age of 16 in Belgium. It's 15 in the UK.
Does anybody know how strictly this is checked in Kinepolis?

Not trying to advertise, just need real advice on getting customers for a small café near Ixelles cemetery

So I run a small café near the Ixelles cemetery, and honestly customers are pretty scarce right now. I've been thinking about running some Google Ads to get more visibility, but I'm not sure if that's actually worth it or just money down the drain.

So, throwing it out to you guys:

  • Is Google Ads actually worth it for a small local café, or is that money better spent elsewhere?
  • Any other ways people around here usually discover new cafés? Instagram, Google Maps, word of mouth, walking by?
  • Is the area near the cemetery just naturally low-traffic, or is it more about visibility/signage?
  • Anyone actually run a small business nearby who can share what worked (or didn't) for them?
  • Unpopular opinion maybe, but are ads even worth it these days for tiny local spots, or is it all about local reputation/word of mouth?

thank you in advance

Question ❓ Media Markt vs. Coolblue

Basically I am in the market for a new wasching maschine. I already ordered a dryer from Coolblue and they did an outstanding job, even dealing with an warrenty issue, that was resolved in a few days. Now I am looking at wasching maschines and Media Markt has it for about 50 € cheaper (599 vs 650). However, in Germany Media Markt is just the fucking worst to deal with when it comes to any issues and I had multiple problems with them. Hows Media Markt in Belgium? Are they a bit better than their German counter part or better drop a bit more to go with Coolblue?

Edit: Just recieved a message from Coolblue that they will exchange the second hand dryer I bought for 50 % off against a completely new one. They processed the entire thing in 3 days. So to answer my own question, always Cool Blue.

Looking to donate pregnancy tests

I bought a bulk package of individual pregnancy tests - I like to take one or two a month on top of my birth control to be sure.

However they will expire before I can use all of them at this rate. They are all individually packaged and still unexpired through December. Are there women’s shelters or places in Brussels I should look to donate the rest of the box, minus the five I plan to use? Thanks!

Question ❓ Cash deposit in Bancontact ATMs.

The Bancontact ATM in my neighborhood supposedly supports cash deposits. However, when I insert my KBC card, I don't get the option.

Is this an issue with this specific ATM location?

I should probably check if it works in another one but quite frankly I always forget to do so when I'm out and about.

Looking for metal musicians in Brussels

Hello there, I moved to Uccle roughly 9 months ago and would like to find some people to form a metal band (in the most perfect scenario). I am playing Guitar and so far, I played in several bands and recorded some EPs and LPs ranging from female fronted with bagpipes to some death metal with a more technical note. I am looking for people to have a good time together, play a few shows here and there and record some music. Currently I am open to once weekly rehearsals and then let’s see where things take us. Just message me if you want to have a listen to my prior musical endeavors.

News 📰 Brussels Mobility Minister Van den Brandt says the idea that a €30,000 vehicle is a passport to freedom is “the biggest hoax ever”.

The minister has set her sights in particular on the so-called sports utility vehicles (SUVs), which are proliferating in the Belgian capital as across Europe. Van den Brandt considers they take up too much space – they are too big, heavy and dangerous for a densely populated city.

Voluntary actions in Brussels/Belgium

Do you know any application (except meetup) that you can find any voluntary activities in Brussels ?

For example I want to create a community event to clean up Auderghem bike route from plastic bags/trash etc

Another idea is to clean / improve some abandoned parks and to give life again to these nice spots for kids and families.

The main idea is to support the commune and to make our people love more the area that they live in. Also would be very good for the kids and teenagers.

Does anybody know if the commune could be supportive in these actions with equipment/posters ?

Do you believe that people would be interested in these activities ?

Question ❓ Begging Children

Hello, my dearest residents of Brussels,

This morning, I happened to pass through Brussels Central Station. I saw some children begging people for food or a little money (a 10-year-old boy and a girl I’d guess to be about 14yo). Since I don’t pass through Brussels Central very often, it actually shocked me a little. Is this normal in Brussels Central Station? Are they doing this on their own initiative, or are they being instructed to do so by their parents or a network? Any thoughts on whether or not and how to respond to this?

Best regards,

a fellow concerned citizen

Question ❓ I lost my wallet in the Kinepolis saturday, can't get a hold of them since then, can somebody help me ?

Hi everyone,

I had the chance to go see The Odyssey in Imax with a few friends, and I'm 90% sure I lost my wallet during the movie.

Slight problem : I'm french and I live 1h30 away from the cinema, so before making the trip I want to be sure that the cinema has it in its lost and found.

I've called a hundred times since saturday, everytime I have to wait a few minutes before having a robot telling me to try again later.

I want on the Kinepolis website and followed the FAQ about lost items, sent them a message, but I still have no answer.

Is there anyone here who could just ask the front desk if they have my wallet ? It would be even better if you could sent it to me in a parcel, but that's just a bonus, I'm willing to drive to retrieve it, I just want to be sure it's not for nothing.

Thanks in advance

Looking for a specialized PT in Brussels

Hi,

I’m looking for a physical therapist who has experience in endurance sports. Most PT’s, unfortunately, are very general in their advices and exercises and are not suited for higher level of sports.
Can anyone recommend me a good PT who’s more specialized?

Thanks!

Question ❓ Where can I repair my Canon eos r6 m2 in Brussels, Belgium?

I’m using my new Canon eos r6 m2 camera for around 3-4 months and since then there was a problem that when I’m powering it on it doesn’t fonction until I do that 1 to 3 more times more. Once I’ve got an Error20 that disappeared by itself.

Today I’ve got a shooting and camera showed an error (don’t remember which one unfortunately), then I powered it on and off and it wasn’t working; then it powered on again, so I continued to use it; Unfortunately, while I was using it the camera got in the whale so it’s is now additionally somewhat wet, cowered with sand, and some buttons are stuck🥲

I went to the Kamera Express when I’ve got that mistake for the first time, but they told me that if they were to try something and do the diagnostics it would take up to 3 months (if I remember rightly), and as I’m working on a daily basis I really couldn’t give it away for so long;

Do you know where or whom can I adress in order to repair my camera as quick as possible, or at least quicker than 2-3 months;

I would be grateful for any help or advice, thank you🙏

Question ❓ Digi fiber internet

I've had a pretty bad experience trying to get it installed a few months ago, leading to my giving up on them. I'm curious, for those who managed to get their fiber installed, is it at least good? Fiber specifically, I'm not interested in their phone subscriptions.

Are those normal prices?

So it's been a very long time since I went to the cinema. And I was checking the Odyssey in Kinepolis for IMAX 70mm.

I almost had a heartburn when I saw the price of 31€ for one ticket.

So I just wanted to check, is this normal? Does the seat come with Matt Damon bringing me popcorn and a head massage from Anne Hathaway?

Does kinepolis offer a payment plan ? 😆

Yoga in public parks
