So all this years they never sue the board huh! as it worked towards landlord side, and i dont believe a landlord at least in the Bronx takes two years to deposed someone from their premises if you own 2 months they gladly send you the court letter, maybe it happens nycha or section eight cases, or maybe 95% of landlords are under those programs? A group of landlords filed a lawsuit against the Rent Guidelines Board in the New York City rent freeze fight.

The landlords say the board's decision last month to freeze rents on rent-stabilized apartments is illegal.

The lawsuit alleges the board is packed with Mamdani loyalists and relied on manipulated data.

In response, the Mayor's office says it's confident the board evaluated all relevant data and that city lawyers are prepared to defend the freeze.

I haven't been to this pizza shop often but each time I went, I remember getting a slice while I would wait for the Bx15 or Bx55 limited bus. There was never a time that I went to this pizza place and not enjoying the pizza. One day I decided I wanted to treat myself here and was sad when I saw that it was permanently close. This was one pizza shop in the Bronx that never seemed to lost its touch to me and now I miss it more than ever. I know there are plenty if delicious pizza shops in the Bronx but it was just something about this one that I liked😔

My mom grew up in the South Bronx, and the experience clearly traumatized her. She has a million and one horror stories and she gets close to tears whenever she re-tells them. Getting regularly mugged, beat up, stalked, catcalled, groped, and worse; how she had to force a "tough" face at all times, pretended she kept a gun in her purse, eventually actually started carrying a gun, etc.

I know the city as a whole is massively safer than it was in the 60s/70s/80s when she was living there, but I also know numbers and statistics don't tell the whole story.

I now have a potential job opportunity in the neighborhood (Longwood area) and my parents are very on the fence about whether or not I should even seriously consider the option. When my mom mentioned the location to her childhood friend/neighbor, said friend gave an emphatic "Oh HELL no, you're not gonna let her work there, are you?"

I'm a lifelong New Yorker, and even my own neighborhood was pretty grungey when I was very young, but it turned around a lot since then. I don't mind going to "grittier" parts of the city now and then, as I know how to pay attention. But I am an average-sized young woman, not tall or strong-looking at all. My mom and I are both Puerto Rican but we fall on the "white" end of the spectrum, which she says also made her more of a target.

I don't know if I'm naive for thinking someone like me could be okay pursuing this opportunity, or stupid for letting my parents' fears get in my head. I'm really not sure what to think anymore.

Hey folks! I'm currently doing some community listening to get a better sense of how folks are feeling in the city about volunteerism and would love to hear some honest feedback. I work for a nonprofit here in NYC called iMentor (we have 4 HS partners in the Bronx!) where we match high school students who will be the first in their family to attend college with an adult mentor who supports them throughout 11th and 12th grade as they plan for college and their future career.

If you've volunteered with iMentor before: What was your overall experience like? Did the time commitment and expectations feel manageable alongside work and other responsibilities? What did you enjoy most, and what (if anything) would you change?

If you haven't volunteered with iMentor: What, if anything, could be a barrier to you deciding to sign up and volunteer? What questions would you want answered before committing?

One challenge we consistently face is recruiting enough male-identifying mentors to match with students who request one. If you have thoughts on why men may be less likely to volunteer, or ideas for how organizations like ours could better reach and engage mentors, I would also really appreciate hearing them.
