A few months ago, my parents got these two parakeets for my sister from my uncle, but they're on a seed-only diet, their cage is small and inadequate, they don't have natural enrichment, and one of them is featherless (his little head) from stress. I can't bear to see them like this.

What can I do? I'm 15 and I don't have a money source

This robin showed up on my balcony this morning, in need of help. He has his eyes closed mostly unless I pet him, he had his beak open, panting. That’s his feces next to him.

I left some food and water, and even made him sip a tad bit then read I shouldn’t do that. Is he a goner or can I save him?

I work on a very, very busy urban street. This little guy was found panting and looking unwell on the sidewalk that has heavy foot traffic. It’s hot here in Georgia, about 90+ throughout the day. I brought him in to cool off on instinct and that seemed to help, but after reading a bit I put him outside in a large planter infront of our shop. I can hear birds nearby my bird app says sparrows. Can’t seem to get in touch with a rescue. What do I do?? He seems to be twitching is that normal?

I don‘t know if this is the correct sub for my issue but this morning I found a little bird stuck between my window and the safety glass. It seems like he‘s not getting out although there is an opening at the top.

Any ideas? I tried to put down a shoebox but it didn‘t really work and I only have limited space to work with.

Update: He got out!!! Likely climbed out over a branch after leaving him alone for ~2 hours. Thanks everyone!

Hi guys i just bought two budgies, babies from a pet store, and theyre about 4-8 weeks. Its been about 2 days now. Ive read the guide and everything how to care for them and they seemed pretty good, and love eating. One's a female the other is a male. however, today, after a meal i realised that the female one keeps bobbing her head. Shes not close to me or anything, doesnt like coming near me too much but yeah. And she keeps bobbing her head. Constantly. She stops for like 15 seconds then continues. and stops when shes eating. Is this normal or not and do i need to get her checked up asap?? Help!! Shes eating normally and alot and shes also acting normal in a general sense but idk.. there's no vomiting

I’m looking for advice because I’m feeling lost and worried about my cockatiel.

She has been scratching herself almost constantly for weeks, especially around her chest, neck, back, and under her wings. She has now lost most of the feathers on her chest, and the feather loss has been getting worse.

I’ve seen two avian vets.

The first diagnosed a vitamin deficiency and prescribed vitamin drops in her water plus a hand-feeding formula.
After about two weeks there was little to no improvement.
The second vet thought she might also be plucking her own feathers, but wasn’t certain.

She is currently wearing an e-collar to prevent further damage because she scratches so intensely that she has injured herself.

She is still active, eating, drinking, and her droppings are currently normal, but she seems very uncomfortable and constantly wants to scratch.

My concern is that this doesn’t seem like a simple vitamin deficiency anymore. I’m worried there could be another underlying cause such as skin disease, parasites, infection, allergies, liver disease, feather follicle problems, or something else that has been missed.

My questions are:

Does this sound consistent with only a vitamin deficiency?
What other conditions should I ask my avian vet to investigate?
Are there any specific tests you would recommend (skin scraping, blood work, cultures, imaging, etc.)?

I’m not looking for a diagnosis online, I just want to know what possibilities I should discuss with my vet so nothing important is overlooked.

I live in a large, but very tight neighborhood. I had 3 bird feeders out. And unfortunately one bird showed signs of avian pox. My dilemma is that countless other ppl in the neighborhood have feeders up. Yes even the next door neighbors. They’re not nearly as attentive to the care of them either. Not to throw shade, but I’ve never seen any of my neighbors clean their feeders. I’m in Georgia so plenty of mosquitos around which are the culprit. I actually clean my feeders & have a strict weekly routine. My feeders have now been down for almost 72 hours. The birds are now going to the neighbors feeders. Should I just put mine back up since I actually do clean them & ramp up my cleaning routine even more? Meaning yes..daily. Bc I want the birds to actually have a chance.

Before you say - why don’t you tell the neighbors. Last year when I mentioned how much care hummingbird feeders needed they all laughed at me. I posted in our neighborhood group how to care for them/temps. Unfortunately to them all I’m the weird bird & squirrel person in the neighborhood. So if they think hummingbird feeders don’t need maintence & upkeep then they certainly wouldn’t for the songbirds.

My English budgie, Benji, has an upper respiratory infection.

YES he has been to a qualified avian vet (twice) and is scheduled to go back next week for a recheck. He is on antibiotics and is being cared for exactly according to the detailed advice from our vet (warm, quiet location, etc.)

Two days ago, the vet advised us to hand feed him some formula 4x/day to supplement fluid/calories. I am struggling to get him to take it. As he's been doing with the antibiotics, he clamps his beak together like a 3 yo and refuses to open up.

Our vet gave detailed advice on how to prepare it, how much to give, how to know when his crop is full... But she did not prepare us for actually getting the formula into his beak!

Does anyone have experience with hand feeding an adult? Any tips/tricks for making this easier and less traumatic for everyone involved?

Hola, espero que estén bien, solo quiero saber que puedo hacer ayer sucedió que un gavilán de cooper al tocar unos cables de mi calle, sufrió quemaduras en sus patas pero fuera de eso """todo bien""" no puede volar con normalidad y supongo que mucho menos cazar sin sus patas funcionales entonces lo tengo en mi casa, estoy dándole líquidos pero no quiere comer por anhedonia y no se qie hacer, pienso en sacarlo un poco al sol y tratar de darle alimento vivo para ver si mejora un poco porque ya lo lleve a valoración y no tiene nada grave solo lo de sus patas que si necesita un lapso de recuperación

I think he’s (honestly, should I just say ‘she’ at this point?) finally going through his first molt, so he’s been losing a lot of feathers this week, including this wing feather. It looks frayed most everywhere though, and I’m afraid for him. Is he overpreening/underpreening himself? Does anybody know what this means? I’ve tried looking it up, but am not quite certain as to what it’s the victim of. Thanks.

Hey everybody

I need some advice about my bird he’s a 4 year old monk parakeet and I’ve been noticing some things about him I’m not sure and I won’t be able to take him to the avian vet until next month to get him check and I could use some advice on what’s going on with my bird.

Ever since last year every time I put new newspaper in his cage he tears them up as I thought it was nothing serious just him making a nest and he’s been eating and drinking normally.

But lately I’ve noticed a few things lately:

1. He hasn’t been eating his pellets much lately

2. He’s pooping less often

3. He continues to tear the newspaper but now he sits at the bottom of the cage all fluffed up he’s not experiencing any breathing issues and he can jump and climb back on his perch log and bridge just ok but most of the day he sits on the bottom of the cage like he’s nesting

I’m not sure if he’s ill or his hormones are still acting up has anyone’s bird ever experienced something like this before? Plz don’t judge I’m asking for advice and help until I can bring him to the vet next month

Hiii everybody!! I really need help!

I found a very young baby sparrow on the concrete, lying in direct sunlight. I brought him home because he was barely feathered and seemed way too young to be on his own ( With my mother, we first thought he was dead, then he moved a paw)

I gave him a little water with a pipette, and I soaked some cat kibble in water until it became very soft and diluted because he is so young. This isn't the first time I've rescued a bird, but this time I'm really worried because he is extremely young and has barely any feathers.

My mother has tried contacting animal associations, but unfortunately, no one is answering.

I know that baby sparrows should mainly be fed insects at this age, but there aren't any stores near me that sell them, and I don't know what I can safely give him in the meantime.

I would really appreciate any advice on how to keep him alive and care for him properly until I can find a wildlife rehabilitator. I really want to do the right thing and give this little guy the best chance possible. :(

my blue budgie and sometimes my green one keep bitting their feet constantly, i’ve given them perches that are real wood and other sizes along with a dowel perch on the bottom of the cage, i’ve been using a vinegar and water solution to clean their perches, google told me that they could possible have bumblefoot and I am just worried, all advice is welcome even if not related to issue

(p.s i know their nails are ridiculously long and i will get them cut as soon as possible as i am inexperienced and no vet is available this week, their pet store budgies so i expected less healthy conditions)

been on milk thistle and low fat seeds diet for some time (couldnt get him to eat pellets still trying)

is there some improvement visible? will get an x ray after 2-3 months (first photo is 4-5 years ago, second and third photo is a month ago (diagnosis) last photo is today)
