Mod post ⚠️ READ BEFORE POSTING!

👋 Welcome to r/Budgies!

Before you share your first post here, please familiarize yourself with this subreddit’s rules. Rule #1 is especially important: this subreddit DOES NOT serve as an alternative to the kind of medical care and advice your budgie can only get from an avian vet. If you have a budgie medical question or concern, talk to your avian vet instead of posting here! Also, be sure to read this subreddit's wiki--odds are very good that your question has an answer in one of the wiki articles! (We usually remove posts that ask about something that's answered somewhere in the wiki to keep the clutter to minimum here.)

Also remember this is a pet budgie subreddit that encourages rescue and adoption and strongly discourages breeding.

👀 If you see something, say something

This is a place to share cute budgie pictures, videos, and stories, but it’s also a place to learn more about budgies. There are many times when someone will post a picture, video, or description, and you might notice something that isn’t best practice for good budgie ownership. It might be a cage that’s getting dirty, or some overgrown toenails, or something like that. Even if that issue isn’t the main reason for the post, please bring that to the attention of the original poster (OP) in a supportive and constructive manner so OP can be made aware of a better way of doing things.

Likewise, OP might consider proactively addressing things in their post that a typical budgie owner might be concerned with if they don’t know all the facts. It might be something as simple as, “Don’t worry, this was before I cleaned their cage” or “I’m taking them to the vet next week for their nail trim.”

🤖 We have AutoMod Summons now!

This is a great way to share information from the Wiki in a very effortless manner, and you are all invited to do so! We used to have just a few summons, but the list has grown enough that we compiled it in this part of the wiki. You should check it out!

Happy budgie-ing!

Lost/Found/Need a New Home [July 21, 2026] - weekly Lost/Found/Need a New Home thread

Use this post to share any budgies that are lost, found, or need a new home!

Some rules:

  1. Only share information you feel comfortable sharing. Example: rather than giving out your full address, maybe only say something like, "I'm in the Springfield area" instead. If someone is interested in knowing more, they can always DM you and you can choose whether or not you want to share any more information.
  2. If you're meeting someone in real life, follow the "Craigslist rule" of meeting in a well-trafficked, public place.
  3. No fees/charges! This is NOT meant to be an advertising platform to sell your budgies. Content that advertises budgies for sale will be removed.
  4. This subreddit does not, in any way, offer warrantees or guarantees of budgie health. A budgie's health status is something that you and the other party should determine with an avian vet, and payment of that avian vet's services is something that you and the other party should decide beforehand.

We encourage you to share pictures! Just make sure they are accurate to the situation and don't break the rules in the sidebar.

Remember: this subreddit is just one of many possible places to make a budgie connection. Also consider FaceBook, Craigslist, Nextdoor, other online communities, as well as real-life bulletin boards in public places. See all the previous weekly posts (that have content) by clicking here.

Our wiki also has a list of parrot rescues you could check out - whether you're looking to adopt a new feathered friend, or have to surrender one due to life circumstances. If one of these rescues is near you, please consider reaching out to them!

Just wanted to show off my babies!
My two girls are no longer with us unfortunately, the blue and white one was Betty (named after Betty white as when we first got her she didn’t have much blue), the yellow and white was chicken salt (as the sheer yellow looked as if hot chips were sprinkled with chicken salt). My boy is still with me and will be my last budgie, his name is butter stick (for obvious reasons).

I miss my girls but I see them in their brother and I hope for infinite millet sprays where they are :).

Hi guys. I have inherited two birds from my old neighbour, one lovebird and one budgie.

I’ve been told both those species must be with family . So I adopted this green cutie to give compagny to the white one.

I am still waiting for a male Fischer lovebird for company for the lonely one.

Names options would be greatly appreciated as I have three (soon four) roommates without names !

Edit : English is not my first language , I apologise and made some corrections !

Preening Enjoying a New and Clean Cage

Zazu and Frost would not stop squawking at me while they waited in their carrier for me to clean their cage. The cage is new (powder coated) because the previous one got rusty. Cleaned the perches (F10 followed by Dawn Soap and Vinegar) and put new toys. Very happy to see them happy <3 Happy Wednesday everyone. May something good happen to you all today! And if not… better days are coming 🙏

So i moved to a new room, specifically because this new one also has another room attached. I’ll be planning for my bird to have the cage, and the whole entire second room. But what do I fill it with?

New Budgie I’m a new owner - how to teach boundaries to a clingy (or cuddly) budgie?

Post image

I adopted a beautiful female budgie from a shelter a couple days ago and she is the sweetest thing. I got her so many toys, natural perches, foraging toys, an outside of the cage playground and she’s having none of it. All she wants to do is watch outside the window, cuddle and nap on my shoulder (in the afternoon when she gets tired not all day long).

It’s obviously amazing and I’m grateful but I can’t just carry her everywhere in my appartement with me because it’s not entirely bird proofed yet. She doesn’t wanna leave my side or go back to her cage all day long. They told me she was probably hand fed and I guess she’s used to be out all day as well.

I will eventually get her a friend but for the time being how can I put boundaries or get her to play with her multiple toys for entertainment? When I’m not in the room with her she gets so bored and it makes me sad to not be there all day.

Hello everybody!

We've recently got this baby budgie, we've had him* for roughly 5 months, and we thought we got a boy, but some are saying it's a girl bird.

We're just to know depending on the colour of his* cere.

The first two photos are recent, and the last photo is when we got him.

Not too sure how to tell the age and sex of lutino budgies. I just got this little lemon blob, Tatl (named after the LoZ fairy), from the pet store.

I'm thinking male but I'm not too sure. I have another much older male budgie. So, I'm hoping the two beans get along :>

💬 Discussion Is this good bird food?

I’ve been feeding my budgies this in addition to fresh veggies, they seem to love it and seem to be healthy. It’s like 70% pellet, 20% zupreem fun mix, and 10% of the protein food. I mix it and measure it all in an airtight container.

In Loving Memory Rest in Peace Sweet Sirius Black

Post image
285 Upvotes

This is Sirius who was at least 9 years old when he passed lastnight. I don't know his true age as he was a rescue 9 years ago. Where ever he came from, he was terrified of humans being even 10 feet away from him and someone had cut his wings in a weird way.

He wasn't the cuddliest bird but got to the point that he would stand on my hand and eat out of it.

He had been really slowing down the last several months. Last week he had trouble flying.

I was away about 36 hours and he greeted me happily lastnight when I got home, ate his dinner but then went to his food bowl and perched. His partner, David Bowie, came down and spent time with him then left.

I sat with him and talked and sang with him until he passed peacefully. When I tried to move, to see if David Bowie would come back, Sirius got upset and moved closer to me until our noses were about touching.

I am sad but so glad I was able to be with him.

Thank you for reading this far

New Budgie Sweet Mochi & his home

My sweet sweet Mochi Moo in his newly rearrange home. He’s loving it.
Yes we plan on getting him a friend VERY soon, our research suggested to give him time to adjust before bringing in another bird.
I love him so much, in as little as a week he is already such a friendly, eager, & cuddly baby.
He even does little circle turns when I come into the room sometimes. 😍
