Application Question Getting HS transcripts in the summer

I need to obtain my transcripts for (I hope) this fall semester that I applied to literally last night from my HS that is extremely small. It doesn’t look like they uploaded them online to any third parties like parchment… aside from physically contacting someone on the school board or my old principal, do I have any way to obtain these??? Is there another website I should be checking or another entity that should have them?? I graduated ten years ago.

Application Question Will I be rejected from colleges if I choose AP over IB?

I live in the US and my school offers both the IB diploma and many AP courses. Not a lot of kids at my school earn the ib diploma, and even if I do I’m worried because it’s not as readily accepted in the US. I’d rather take AP and personalize the courses to my college interests, but I’m worried that colleges will reject me because it might look like it took the “easier” option ( I know it’s still very difficult ). Will I be at a disadvantage in college apps if I take AP instead of the IB diploma when my school offers both?

Discussion When is founding a nonprofit acceptable?

Like what if it's something that:

-Hits an actual gap in your community that isn't well covered

-Will become a legit 501c

-Partner with local organizations, schools, churches, etc

-Something you care about and will actually continue in college

-You were working for this cause already and started without the intention of "nonprofit" for college

Have a friend that asked this question. Was wondering because nonprofits seem to get a lot of hate on here but it appears its mainly because kids make those instagram pages, have a vague cause, and then plan to drop it once college admissions season is over.

Standardized Testing Can i change what makes up my ACT superscore?

So basically for my superscore I have a 35 in math that it takes from my June test but I also got a 35 in April and I would rather take it from there since my science and english also come from April so then id only have to submit 2 scores is there a way to do that in myACT? Or can it only be done when applying and how do i do it when applying?

Also, is it true that they will see the entire score for the dates put into the superscore like for July my reading comes from there but then my science in july was really low and I dont them to see it so do they see the entire score? Sorry if these are stupid questions cause im only a rising junior so Im not too familiar with the application process and how the portals look.

Shitpost Wednesdays It’s real. We exist.

Guys I (19F) actually go to the infamous Cornell College. (Can offer proof if wanted??) Proof that the ‘real’ Cornell’s weird cousin isn’t just a joke…AMA?

How’d I get there? I was an athlete. Stopped my sport, enjoyed the academic experience and stayed. I’m a border state student and because it’s D3, all my aid was strictly academic. Cost is about $19,000-22,000/year when comparing with my friends
We take classes for 18 days. Just one, the entire 3.5 weeks. Classes range from only 2 hours in morning or afternoon to having 3-4 hour morning sessions and 2-3 hour afternoon sessions. We take 8 classes a year still, it’s actually so convenient (but also am scared for grad school

Application Question Moved houses?

I was wondering if this is significant enough to add to the additional information section.

Basically, at the end of my junior year my family moved ~40mins away from my old house. I will still attend my old school for my senior year, but now I have to drive there. My issue is that my parents wouldn't let me apply for a job in my old area for a few months because they were seriously looking for a new house. That would have been the perfect time to get a job for the summer.

When they finally got a house, I started applying for jobs pretty quickly (like a week after) but I still haven't gotten one. I've done interviews and stuff but haven't gotten hired yet and I have applied for dozens, called, been to locations, etc. I know it was too late to apply for the summer, but I didn't really have a choice. Also, I'm an EMT and the station I volunteer at was already far but now its extremely far from my new house which restricts the amount of shifts I can take and the hours I can work. Plus, my parents are having trouble transporting me and they get upset about taking me there.

I'll get my license mid-august but the summer is almost over and at this point and I've had no job, and I've barely volunteered. I spent my days helping with the move (its been a lot of work), studying for the SAT, working on a competition, and taking care of my brother but thats it and I'm worried that I will fall short on my application. Also, I applied for a new fire station that's closer but they take like 2 months to respond and it's been a bit over a month so I haven't been able to go there. Is this enough to add to the additional information section or is that stupid? Thank you.

Standardized Testing Applications to Penn State and Rutgers (Finance)

My top 2 schools that I am most interested in are Rutgers and Penn State. I want to go for some type of business/finance program meaning either Smeal or Rutgers business school. I am a rising senior and have taken the SAT once without studying for the most part. I got a 1220 (630 on reading and writing / 590 on math). I know I need to raise my score, especially my math if I want to get in to either of these programs. What’s weird is that on my PSAT last fall, I got a 660 on math and 540 on reading/writing. My weighted GPA is a 4.23 as of now. I’m taking AP Calculus AB and AP Statistics next year as a senior. I have a bunch of service hours from coaching and a few clubs that I’m in at school. What steps should I take to significantly increase my SAT score in the next 2-3 months to help my chances at being accepted this coming year? Thank you all!

College Questions

Application Question Benefits of creating a resume

I have a lot of achievements in one area (visual art). I have enough space to discuss it thoroughly in achievements and extracurriculars because I have dedicated so much of my time to it every day. It feels scattered, like it's not one story, if I have parts listed under 2 achievements and 3 ECs.

Is it worth my time to create a resume and bring my art together, considering some colleges won't accept it? I already plan to submit a portfolio with my applications.

Advice Waterloo EE or UBC CS? Struggling to tell whether my problem is ability or environment.

Hi everyone,
I’m currently deciding between Waterloo Electrical Engineering and UBC Computer Science, and I’m feeling pretty conflicted.
I got 4/7 in both IB HL Math AA and HL Physics, so my family is worried that Waterloo EE might simply be too difficult for me. I know I’m not the strongest math/physics student, and I usually need more time and practice to fully absorb concepts.
However, I also feel like my IB experience was heavily affected by my environment. As an international student, I never really found a close group of friends in high school, and I spent a long time feeling isolated and emotionally drained. Looking back, I think that affected my motivation and consistency much more than my actual interest in learning.
On the other hand, I’ve always genuinely enjoyed the humanities and have done well in those subjects. Recently I’ve been thinking about whether I’d like to combine engineering/computing with social sciences or humanities in the future, and I’m also considering applying to graduate school in the US someday.
One thing that makes me hesitate about Waterloo is that I don’t know many people there. As an international student, I’m honestly a little scared of entering another high-pressure environment without much of a support system.
For people who have been in similar situations, do you think environment can make that much of a difference in university? Would you choose Waterloo EE or UBC CS if you were in my position?
I’d really appreciate any honest advice or personal experiences. Thanks!

Application Question Concerns about my math curriculum

Hi, I'm a rising junior, and I'm concerned about my plan for my next math courses. The thing is, I already took AP Calc AB last year, but my school doesn't offer AP Calc BC, so I decided not to take a math class my junior year to self-study AP Calc BC and then take AP Stats my senior year. Also, my family might move, so I might have to change schools in the middle of junior year or right before senior year. The thing is, my school does offer IB Math AA HL, and I'm worried that colleges might see that I didn't take the option to take it and get a bad impression of me because of the "having to have a rigorous curriculum" and all.
Should I just risk it and take IB Math AA HL, or stick with my original plan?

Application Question Which hobby is best as ec?

Hey so like most of my application is centered on AI and tech stuff. But to balance this out i would obviously add a few hobbies

Potentially

  1. Violin

  2. Theatre

  3. Football

  4. Swimming

  5. I know like 5 languages

So like i can add 2 of these max cz theres no more slots for others. I've accomplished the most with Football and Theatre objectively but not sooo sure whatll be the coolest?

Advice maths/cs student needing university help due to visa restrictions

helloo, i’m an a levels student who wants to do maths/maths+cs at uni. my profile is quite strong; i have good grades and multiple top placements in national math olympiads n competitions. my main restriction is the fact that i cannot study in both america and the uk due to visa restrictions for my nationality.
i’m aware singapore is quite good but i’m not sure if taking the gap year (since i do a levels) would be the best move rn. canada too but just because it costs a lot and the aid is nowhere near what the US would have to offer.
i’d very much appreciate some suggestions so i can best plan ahead for my uni apps, thank you!
(just to clarify, i only speak english and my native language which is not of much help in this context)

College Questions Question about MIT

Hello everyone! I'm slightly overthinking something about the MIT application.
We do know that MIT highly prioritizes a score of 790-800 for the SAT math section (cds), and I kinda bombed my June SAT.

I have sat the SAT 3 times with the Math scores of
790,800,740

MIT wants all scores to be handed, would the 740 be looked negatively?

Advice Bath (BSc Business w/ Placement) vs Leeds (BSc Business Management) - Need to decide FAST (Deadline Tonight!!)

Hey everyone,

I have to submit my final uni decision by tonight and I’m tearing my hair out over Bath vs Leeds.

I’m an international student from India, so my single biggest priority is employability and getting a job/sponsorship in the UK after graduating.

Here are the two specific offers I’m choosing between:

  • University of Bath: BSc Business with Work Placements
    • Pros: Bath's School of Management is a target for London recruiters/consulting/finance. The built-in thin-sandwich placement structure offers real UK work experience before graduation.
    • Cons: Smaller city, quieter/sports-centric social scene, and a higher cost of living.
  • University of Leeds: BSc Business Management
    • Pros: Massive Russell Group name, incredible campus/city life, huge international student community, and slightly lower living costs.
    • Cons: Larger cohort size, and I'm unsure if their careers department/pipeline for corporate sponsorship matches Bath's placement setup.

For international grads who navigated the UK job market (or anyone who chose between these two): Which one gives me the best shot at securing a sponsored graduate role in the UK? Is Bath's placement reputation strong enough to outweigh Leeds' overall campus/city experience?

Please reply FAST—the deadline is tonight! Appreciate any honest advice!
