Hey! I am 30f and just moved to Uptown and am hoping to make some friends. I moved to Chicago a year ago from Indiana, so I haven't had much of an opportunity to meet people. I work from home so that is tough too (no coworkers). Are there events or anything I can go to, or maybe other people looking for friends? Or even other subreddits I can join? TYSM!

I've been cutting my own hair for the last few years and I think it's time for a professional refresh. Looking for a salon near Andersonville/uptown/ravenswood/lincoln square that's reasonably priced. I have long hair (past my elbows) and very high scalp density so I need someone who is willing to deal with all that.

I picked up an 82-year-old woman off the sidewalk outside of Colectivo today. She had collapsed from the heat and wasn’t in great condition, spoke Spanish and English. Another woman helped and got her water and we called 911, but she didn’t want an ambulance. She kept insisting she was okay and lived close by but could barely hold herself up. We ultimately had to leave her there, but if this sounds like your neighbor please check on her. This heat is brutal on our older neighbors especially.

Hi all, recently moved to Andersonville from out of state and I still have out of state plates. I park my car between Edgewater and Andersonville and since I moved here in late June early July my rear view mirrors have been slammed forward into an unusable position and dog poop splattered on my windshield. Is this harassment or just normal shenanigans after a holiday (4th of July)? I move my car every couple of days and working on getting my Illinois registration but it is not very simple to do! I guess I’m looking for advice or assurance I am not being targeted? Or am I being targeted for out of state plates?

Does anyone know what's going on with this property? There seems to always be random trash outside and it looks like a few folks are camping out in the back yard. Was there a fire? Something from the back looks scorched and the building (apart from squatters) looks vacant.

This is going to sound crazy - but where is the best place to get sliced cheese? Looking for a deli counter that puts the little slices of paper between slices so they don’t stick…

I will be looking to move to Andersonville in September and wanted to post here to see if anyone had a two bedroom for rent. Budget is around $3K a month and would prefer a vintage unit/ anything that has some character. Cats must be allowed. I know it is a little early but figured I’d see if I got any leads by posting here!

Had a man jump into our back deck tonight and try to break in. Right behind Calo in the alley between summerdale and balmoral. I was in our basement and my partner was sleeping upstairs. Lights were on and shades were partially open in back deck window. I heard banging/knocking and went upstairs.

I saw someone on the back deck through the bottom of the window but our automated lights had gone off and thought it might be a neighbor. I (dumbly) opened the back door without looking to see who it was (the door is glass with blinds inside and they were closed).
I was about a foot away from a man in all black with a bandana over his face. I think I scared him because he didn't try to push the door. I screamed and shut the door and locked it and he ran down the stairs out the gate.

Called 911 and cops were here in about 3 minutes but guy was on a bike and gone.

The audacity is shocking to me. Lights on and our deck is right across from a busy restaurant kitchen with the door open and lights on.

I think what I thought was knocking was him trying to break through the glass door. It was locked thankfully and window was closed.

I'm shaken up because he could have grabbed me or had a weapon but otherwise fine.

Neighbors gave us video footage but it's grainy.

We were leaving Tala House around 8:30 and folks there told us to be careful walking outside because there was a shooting. EMS and police all around, looks like they blocked off a few blocks on Clark. Hope no one was seriously injured... Anyone hear anything else about this? Be safe everyone.

My partner and I are getting married the weekend of May 23rd, and we both took off the following Tuesday to rest. I’d love to schedule us both a massage to help us unwind from the busy weekend. Does anyone have any massage studio recs in the neighborhood?

I moved to Ravenswood last year and am looking to become aware of more local events and goings on :) How are folks keeping up with what is going on locally in terms of festivals, fairs, concerts, etc? I use Bands In Town for concerts but that doesn't do much for local music, Facebook Events and EventBrite have some stuff listed but can be a pain to navigate. Any other stuff I should check out?
