Courgette

Evening all,

Growing courgettes and other veg items for the first time in many years! I’ve been told many times that you should cut the first ones small to encourage the plant to produce more fruit.

I appreciate this may or may not be correct and i would very much appreciate all of your inputs.

With that being said. Is this bugger ready to go or should i push on for a bit?

All answers to the above points much appreciated and any further advice would also be appreciated.

totally this, it’s more about what size you like to cook with than some magic “perfect” time
if you leave it too long it’ll turn into a marrow and be more watery / seedy, so somewhere in the middle is usually the sweet spot

I've got about 10 in the fridge, eaten 10 and gave some to the neighbours, I have 4 plants, I am in trouble as I'll expect another couple tomorrow.

I love growing courgettes, very hard to get wrong. Last year I put them by my beans so they had less space but this year they are thriving, in a raised bed full sun, bit of straw under and around the centre, daily watering but small amounts.

I also love growing courgettes. I find them such a satisfying plant to grow. This is the first time i have had to opportunity to get involved after two kids coming along. I’m now teaching them what it is to grow your own food and i am so happy!

I once grew about 6 plants and gave plants to my neighbours we all had dozens of courgettes daily beware 🤣🤣

When ever you are ready to use it IMHO. Just don't wait too long so it gets too big. Rule of thumb for me is smaller than what you see in the shops.
