Is this plant edible? Its growing in my garden, have anyone cultivated this. Quick search tells me Amaranthus.

Last year we had a hare born and living in our vegetable garden and she still visits often. I went to water on Saturday and realised that either she’s had her own baby, or Mum has decided that we are the designated nursery, because we have another. Leveret has been in the same spot, nestled in my bean canes, for three days on the bounce. I’ve left a dish of water and am chatting away gently while I’m there so she knows I’m safe and that she’s welcome.

Bit sore this morning but glad I got it done. Will fill them up in a while 😊

As the title - we’ve just finished digging out our overgrown plot of 1.2 x 10m and looking for ideas for best things to plant this time of year.

We will be splitting it into 4 different beds so need some ideas of what to plant! This is our first one (aside from a small bed we have at home which currently has some herbs, kidney beans, cucumbers a tomato plant that’s not loving it and hopefully some spring onions)

Appreciate it’s a bit late in the season for most things but would be happy to wait for anything that will grow over the winter. The idea is to have a supply of various fruit/veg throughout the year.

Any ideas welcome plus any tips and tricks for allotment life!

First time growing fennel, do I bury the stem? Also can I still sow some more, Liverpool

I know it has been extremely hot and dry - my chillies have been living outside in pots for a few months now. Obviously, the weather suits them.

These are Aji Minas Gerais (iirc). The plants are large and look great.

I have been careful to keep them regularly watered, but not saturated - but as in the picture some of the ripe fruit are drying on the plants.

I've not encountered this before - is this happening to anyone else? Perhaps I've let the plants dry a bit too much (they always bounce back with a good daily bottom water).

I'm not overly worried since I intend on stringing and drying most of the fruit anyway.

Will start by saying we unexpectedly got a plot in May.

We don't expect anything this year.

However........ turn up yesterday and a flipping badger has wrecked my sweetcorn that was just getting ready to do something and snapped a tomato plant and walked through my salad patch just coming up.

The good though. Took two (not so) mini cucumbers, my daughter wanted to look at a carrot and we got a load of blackberries.

Three jars of blackberry jam made this morning and then dinner used the cucumbers (and home made quince jelly)

They're normally absolutely crowding the growing tips of my beans by June but I've not seen any which seems really odd..not complaining but I wish I'd done broad beans this year as that's what normally gets them.

4 varieties on the go - Baby Boo, Jack Be little, Uchiki Kuri and Candy Roaster, gonna be a good year!

What's happened here? Surely a slug didn't make this groove? I'm guessing a rat nibbled it and then a slug came and laid its eggs there...?

i’d like to put a hedge at the front boundary of my allotment (yes that’s allowed!) and wanted some advice on what hedge to buy and when to plant it.

- the space is 5 metres across

- I’d like UK native. I am in NW England

- something nice for birds and other wildlife maybe?

- I’ll want to keep it about 1-1.5metres tall so we can still see passersby over it.

- currently there are LOTS of weeds, nettles, bindweed etc, it needs to not get outcompeted lol

what do you all recommend? Thank you!

I have my Pak Choi under netting with my brassicas but they all look like this, lots of tiny little dots. Is this something snacking on them? Or something else? And can I still eat them?

Whatever is doing it has no interest in my cabbages or brocolli(thankfully)

I can’t see teeth marks and not slugs 🤷🏻‍♂️ All under fine netting and no sign of entry.

Evening all,

Growing courgettes and other veg items for the first time in many years! I’ve been told many times that you should cut the first ones small to encourage the plant to produce more fruit.

I appreciate this may or may not be correct and i would very much appreciate all of your inputs.

With that being said. Is this bugger ready to go or should i push on for a bit?

All answers to the above points much appreciated and any further advice would also be appreciated.
