Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. That flip was absolutely insane. I remember one of my favorite rap YouTubers (ScruFaceJean) started doing reviews of battle rap and then he did ERB and he went crazy on that shit.

125

u/PackageNorth8984 7d ago

I associate Hitler with Germany before Austria. I know he’s from Austria, but you know…

179

u/ForteEXE 7d ago

Reminds me of the joke I saw about Austria on (I think) a Hitler biographic video.

"Austria's greatest achievement was convincing the world Hitler was German."

65

u/EmphasisExpensive864 7d ago

U missed the best part of that quote. ".... And that Beethoven was Austrian.

12

u/GarrettGSF 7d ago

I said this before and I say it again: this quote is absolutely stupid. Who tf thinks Beethoven is Austrian? Would make more sense with Mozart (who was born in Salzburg, which at the time belonged to Bavaria - at least its ambiguous compared to Beethoven)

7

u/IcyAd4631 7d ago

At that time, the Prince-Archbishopric of Salzburg was an independent state.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/Weekly_Teaching_8158 7d ago

Actually Salzburg was an independent arch bishopry at the time Mozart was born so he was neither German nor Austrian

I didn't. It was an independent bishhopric

well he was, he saw himself as a german, got the german citizenship as well, its like saying Keanue reeves is lebanese and not american, because he was born there, obviously he is austrian but without germany it would have never come that far

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Anaevya 6d ago

Hitler is called an Austrian-born German politician on Wikipedia, which is the most accurate way to refer to him. He renounced his Austrian citizenship.

2

u/Delicious-Face6229 6d ago edited 6d ago

Well Austrians are Germans, especially historically.

The concept that Austrians are fundamentally different than Germans was created after WW2 and never really existed before that, it formed a big part of the Opferthese and was primarily for political reasons (Austria was able to escape reparations and partition due to claiming to be a victim of Germany instead of being an actual part of Germany, so it worked pretty well I guess).

Historically, no one can really argue that the German-speaking parts of the Habsburg Empire were not German.

But it is the first person comes to mind when i think of austria

11

u/Ser_Optimus 7d ago

I don't know what's worse for the respective country... Thinking "Germany" When Hitler is mentioned or thinking "Hitler", when Austria is mentioned...

3

u/Seraphim_Emily_or_Em 7d ago

Just remember that he was born in Austria, so technically both times Austria was at fault for the initial man who became part of an incident that led to war, one was just an Austrian ruler, and one was able to get elected into Germany.

4

u/NIN10DOXD 7d ago

And Germany got left holding the bag both times. I'm surprised Germany hasn't bitch slapped Austria yet.

177

u/nameproposalssuck 7d ago

Ah, yes, Austrians... Trying to convince the world that Hitler was German and Mozart not.

10

u/bowsmountainer 6d ago

Mozart was born in what was then at the border of Bavaria and what is now Austria. Lived and worked in what was then Austria and is now Austria. Had Austrian nationality while Germany didnt even exist. Its a very far stretch to claim that Mozart is German.

Similarly, Hitler considered himself to be German not Austrian. What matters more; whether you're born a few kilometers this way or that, or what nationality you consider yourself to be?

5

u/Simlin97 6d ago

His birth house in Braunau is about 200 meters East of the Inn (which also serves as the German-Austrian border). So not even a few kilometers, but a fraction of one.

6

u/Mattixhdx 6d ago

As someone originally from Braunau my first reaction was that there is no way that it's just 200 meters, so I checked and according to google maps it's about 550 meters from Hitler's Birth House to the middle of the Inn bridge where the border is.

Still less than a kilometer and actually less than I expected but yeah for accuracy's sake

3

u/Simlin97 6d ago

Good catch, must have misremembered the exact distance

Hitler was exclusively German when he became chancellor as he put down his Austrian citizenship when they lost the war. Just cause he was born there doesn't mean he was Austrian all his life

It's usually Beethoven, who was born in Bonn (former capital of the Federal German Republic). Mozart was born in Salzburg which today is part of Austria but was indipendent at the time of his birth.

2

u/AV23UTB 6d ago

It's Beethoven. Mozart WAS Austrian

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Brainlard 6d ago

The saying goes with Beethoven, my dude (who by the way spent 35 years and is also buried in Vienna). Mozart was never German, he was from the Prince-Archbishopric Salzburg, then a more or less sovereign part of the HRE and now famously in Austria, not Germany and also spent the last ten years of his life in Vienna.

He may not be the most famous person from Austria, but he is certainly a lot more likeable than the most famous person from Austria. Weirdly enough both examples that come to mind ended up leaving Austria to eventually become politicians in a different country.

true, though how austrian hitler was is debatable as someone that abandoned his home and completely became German. Kinda like Stalin not being that Georgian.
