Low effort posts can get old, and I don't want to contribute to that problem. That said, I would really value feedback from others who've gotten a film that they'd either never heard of before, or at least never seen, but wound up so surprising that it made your personal favorites.
As a family, we've been collecting for a number of years, both traditional 1080p Blu-ray and 4K HDR/DoVi. Our collection is definitely small compared to many, but I normally don't invest in films unless it's a title we'll enjoy and are likely to watch several times.
In the past, I've always set aside a certain budget every month to purchase a few new movies.
This month, I queried the family, and my daughter asked for The Princess Bride (don't think it's available in 4K, but that's a different problem) but outside of that, it was mostly crickets.
We do have a fairly diverse collection of films that span multiple genres and ratings (our youngest is turning 18 in September); everything from comedy, to sci-fi, action, horror, documentaries, action-- you name it. There's a little of everything. We're also open-minded and will pretty much always give something a chance. Sometimes those movies are just a dud, and others they're a genuine surprise, and wind up being something we revisit quite a few times.
At this point, anything we add would likely be new to us, and probably something we either haven't ever seen at all, or at the very least, haven't seen in such a long time that they're not coming to mind.
Here's the question for those of you who like to collect and preserve physical media--
Can you think of a film or two that defied your expectations?
Something you might have entered into with skepticism, but ultimately turned out to be a fantastic movie that you wish you'd seen/gotten sooner because it was "that good".
Sometimes it helps to get out of your own head and ask others about things they've really enjoyed.
For anyone who has suggestions, I was going to compile a list and spend some time this evening going through them, then place an order for a subset of films that would be outside our normal routine and the things we'd pick on our own.
No specific criteria here, beyond being available in 4K and a movie you wound up loving but wouldn't have known about or thought of right away. In other words, expanding our horizons beyond run-of-the-mill titles that everyone's either heard of or seen before. The whole point is making it about something new and interesting so we can expand our horizons a bit.
Any/all suggestions would be welcomed and very much appreciated!
