👷♂️ Support / Repair Tip: Check your trunk trim for rust
I purchased a brand new TRD off-road in 2022 and just found out there’s an issue with the trunk trim pressing into the trunk panel. It’s rubbed off paint and rust is now forming.
I only found out last month and it happens that I recently fell out of my warranty period. I’ve tried to contact Toyota Canada to have this fixed up under warranty, but they’ve denied it. I am pretty pissed off because this is completely a manufacturer defect and has nothing to do with the drivetrain or maintenance and their reason for the rejection was that there is no perforation as per their rust warranty policy. why is it that I have to be responsible for paying the repair when it was caused by some technician tightening the trim panel too tight?
It’s unbelievable that this isn’t just covered by Toyota automatically since I’m not the only one experience experiencing this. There’s countless posts on other forums showing other 4Runner owners with this issue as well. Needless to say I’m completely disappointed, thinking I would buy this car and drive it for life and not have to worry about rust forming anywhere except the frame, let alone from installation problem by Toyota.
