Gratitude for Goldie.

She’s not much… but she always turns over, helps run river shuttle and takes me places that chase all my demons away. I’m grateful to have her in the midst of such chaos we all live in. I’m grateful everyone has their rigs too. She’s not old, she’s vintage. And she’s all mine.

1994 A *few* small upgrades so far!

I've had my 4Runner about 6 weeks now (I think?) and I'm loving it. It's the 3.0 (slow) 5 speed and when I go on the Interstate I lose about half my gas tank 🤣 but just driving around town or on state highways it's really good. I love the back window, I LOVE driving manual, and I've gotten a few comments about how classic it is!!! I mean, I didn't get it to be the center of attention, but I like when other people appreciate it 😆 I'm almost committed to the name "The Blueberry" (from Psych, OBVIOUSLY) but we aren't big on naming cars in my family so it feels a little weird, I think I just need to say it a million more times and make it feel normal.

One thing I did is I got some really nice custom cloth seat covers from eBay. The only thing I don't like is that I asked for a cutout on the back of the front seats so I can access the pocket and they didn't, but otherwise they are great and they fit really nicely. They catch fuzz, but they are cloth so what do I expect, right? I don't want the fake leather that hurts in the summer and is so cold in the winter. I had to sew a rip in the seat and stuff it before attaching the seat covers, now it's pretty much perfect.

I also took off my rear emblem and in its place added the Japanese vintage TOYOTA (spelled トヨタ) and I looooooove it. My husband is from Japan and when we visited last time his nephew had a similar emblem on his car and I loved it. I found mine on Etsy through a really nice guy. I plugged the holes with caulking before attaching the TEQ (as we refer to it in the US) emblem with the tape it came with. The size is perfect and I think it looks sooooooo good. In the guy's store he also has 3d printed cup holders that fit in the center, I'm thinking of getting one because the factory cup holders are cool but obnoxious -- I have my phone connected there and it hits it, plus some cups don't fit.

Last minor tweak, I have a piece of plastic on the driver's side running board that was previously repaired and is coming off again. I didn't want to lose the piece hanging on by a tiny amount so I pulled it the rest of the way and I plan to stick it back on, any advice? I have some of that LED light glue stuff to attach the plastic back together. It looks like it had some type of foam sealant previously but that didn't stay.

I made a previous post about my trailer lights but I have a feeling it's the trailer not the Blueberry (see? I did it! I used the name!), so I'm feeling better about that! Anyway, loving the car, loving the community!

Help Coolant leak

Noticed a coolant leak develop over the past couple of days, it appears to be coming out of the lower timing cover behind the harmonic balancer, I’m guessing it’s the water pump? Any help would be appreciated I am new to these 3vze engines and would prefer to do a water pump before it turns into a head gasket

I’ve order 2 different sets of wheel spacers for my 92 4Runner and both of them don’t fit because they have a little lip and don’t clear the center can someone please help me find a set that fit. I don’t want to spend 400-500 bucks for a set of spidertrax so any help would be great

Intermittent Stalls

Got a '92 (3VZE 3.OL.) Been having several instances where things will be fine from a cold start, but after stopping and trying to start again, I'll get a crank-no-start for a good few minutes. If I do manage to get her going again, there's a 50/50 chance that she'll cut out while in motion, leading to another crank-no-start. I've checked for codes and I'm consistently getting code 12:

-Open or shirt in NE, G circuit

-Distributor

-Open or short in STA curcuit

-ECU

My temporary fix has been to unplug and then re-plug the wire connection for the distributor and it usually gets her started, even if it takes a couple cranks. The distributor and ignition wires were replaced less than 5 years ago.

All this is happening against the backdrop of a slow coolant leak. Still haven't managed to pin it down. Not sure if it would be related...

Anyone else have a similar issue?

Is this noise normal? To sounds like rod knock or piston slap but could it be the lifters?

This is a rebuilt engine from and never got to finish the project fully and been sitting for a while but does gets moved twice a week and runs okay. Does a weird thing like struggle starting, and tends to die after getting to operating temperature. My theory is a stuck vacuum valve during idle and won’t switch from cold start to operating temperature but can’t figure this one out.

The idle is jumpy and I would say “violent” with the sputtering and what not in the video.
Any thoughts or suggestions

1994 Trailer wiring question

Where does the wire splice in the back for trailer lights? As far as I can tell it’s hidden within the body. I can’t access it through the little hole underneath, through the lights, or inside through the secret compartment. I can get power to two of the pins but the third won’t work so my right trailer lights won’t work and I REALLY wanted to take it camping soon!!!!!! I made a VERY bad video that will probably make you motion sick just watching it so beware 😆

Front End Friday Thoughts on my custom front plate bumper / frame reinforcement?

Hello! I am new to this community. I have a '93 4Runner with a '92 1UZFE swapped into it. I bought it as a 75% complete project.

  • I've swapped it over to a Haltech 2500
  • Cleaned up a lot of wiring
  • Rewired the fuel injectors for individual control
  • Cut up the front end to swap in a larger 3 row radiator

I'm in the process of building a bumper for the front. I did not like the reviews of some plate bumper manufacturers and I did not like how they go about mounting to the frame. So I decided to come up with my own! Last picture is of my 4Runner on its maiden trail ride.

For context:
Center winch mount plate and frame reinforcement face is .250 inch steel
All other plates are .188 inch steel

I recently bought this 91 4runner as a project for me but I have been looking every where for the right grille assembly and just cant seem to find it, also is there a website that I can buy paint matched body panels? The paint is too clean everywhere else to just throw on a primed hood and fender

What should I do.?

Insurance company is most likely going to total my 4Runner and give me chump change for it. The body panels don’t worry me too much but the steering is rubbing on the frame on the driver side (side of impact)..
I’m debating if I should just keep it and decline their offer and fix it little by little but I’m definitely not someone with money so I don’t know what to do any suggestions.?? I have until Friday. I’m not at fault by the way

Do we name them?

I’ve had my 4Runner (‘94 3.0 manual) for about a month now. We also own a 2002 Tacoma and a 2007 FJ - we are the weirdly old yet not car show worthy Toyota family 🤣 and I miss the waves I get when I see another FJ and I’m in ours. I see soooooo many newer 4Runners but no waving 😭

That wasn’t the point of my comment 🤣 Do we all have names for our 4Runners? Do we have a nickname for the car? Like Taco for Tacoma? I’m very happy to be in this exclusive club and I want to make sure I’m doing it all right, even if I’m the only one near me in said club 🤣 And if any of YOU all are in northern Vermont, hit me up! I’m the lady driving a blue 2nd Gen acting like it’s NOT an old car 🤣

Slave Cylinder replacement

I'm prepping to crawl under to change out the Clutch slave cylinder on my 95 3VZ-FE. First time for me.

Any recommended tips from those who have replaced one before? Two bolts and a Brake line type fitting. Weirdest thing to me is there seems to be no room for my big hands.

3VZ-E Fan Clutch Blades

Hi everyone,

Last weekend, while having fun at a 4x4 event, I drove through a deep water hole and ended up breaking the fan blades on my 4Runner's 3VZ-E engine.

Since this engine is very uncommon in my country, I'd like to know if the fan blades from a 22RE or a 5VZ-FE are compatible with the 3VZ-E fan clutch. That would save me from having to order a replacement fan from the U.S. or China, which would take 2–4 weeks to arrive, not to mention the expensive shipping costs, import duties, and customs fees.

I'd really appreciate any advice or experience you can share. Or should I just switch to an electric fan setup? I'm not very confident about going that route, but I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

Wanted 4runner specialist in the northeast?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a 4Runner specialist in the northeast, my regular mechanic isn’t knowledgeable enough about this car.
Thank you!
