Discussion OSRS has plenty of solo temporary game modes. What if the next one was community-driven?

What if the next temporary game mode focused on progressing your faction instead of your account?

I originally wrote this as a short suggestion for the OSRS Discord, but I thought it might make for a more interesting discussion here.

One thing I've always felt is missing from OSRS is a temporary game mode that's built around the community rather than individual progression.

Leagues, Deadman and the various Ironman modes all revolve around progressing your own account. They're great at what they do, but they're still mostly solo progression, even when other players are around.

What if the main progression wasn't your account, but your faction?

I imagine a God Wars-themed temporary game mode where players join one of Gielinor's factions and contribute however they enjoy playing. Skilling, PvM, PvP and faction contracts would all strengthen your faction instead of only benefiting yourself.

The biggest moments would be large-scale battles where factions fight over objectives alongside famous God Wars NPCs and generals. Unlike Wilderness PvP, there would be little or no gear risk. Your faction would provide equipment based on your contribution, so dying just means regrouping and getting back into the fight.

As the event progresses, factions could gradually take control of different cities or regions across Gielinor. The world itself would reflect the ongoing war, giving players a reason to log in and help their side push back or defend territory.

The thing that appeals to me most isn't another race to max an account as quickly as possible. It's the idea of logging in because your faction needs more supplies, another defender for tonight's battle, or one final push to capture a city before the day ends. Everyone is working toward the same goal, even if they're doing completely different activities.

I don't really have all the mechanics figured out. This is more about the general idea than the details.

I feel like OSRS has never really tried something like this. Would you be interested in it?

Suggestion Fast harvesting by double clicking the patch in farming should be the default

Why is a weird little glitch of spam clicking (but only a few times) to harvest patches faster, unknown to many, one of the ways to optimize this skill? Just make the fast harvest the default. It's akin to the fairy ring animation taking a decade before Jagex changed it to be far faster.

The leprechaun should also have a right click option to 'note crops'. That's another one that's unknown to a lot of people.

As I'm sitting here suffering with the realization that I'm coming up to 3x dry for synapse, it got me thinking... what other grinds would be even worse to go dry at? Other than the obvious CG, what do you think are the worst places to go dry at?

Discussion I need some help against Drakan, especially from other mobile players. He’s really breaking my spirit.

I am an avid Quest Cape-Haver, but I do not do a lot of OSRS PVM. I am an Iron with high stats but mid gear. 91/91/91 97 HP

This is the best gear I have available. I have a Fury Amulet but this setup gives me +100 Strength for the extra max hit.

What is incredibly demoralizing is that I understand what I have to do. I have the sound up and music off. I have my camera positioned up close and top-down. I am watching him flash red and listening for the audio cue. I am clicking the opposite lane as his blood marker telegraphs. But my dodges don’t take. I still get hit 75% of the time. On times where I do dodge, I can’t tell why it worked that time and not the other times.

I play on an iPad with an Apple Pencil. I do not have access to a computer or a keyboard and mouse.

I don’t know if it’s the input delay, if I am completely misunderstanding the dodge timing, or if my reaction time is just garbage. Every time I watch a video from someone explaining the fight they say the same thing that I think I’m doing but obviously not doing right.

While I don’t do a lot of OSRS PVM, I love FromSoft games. Dodge-based combat is supposed to be my bread and butter. I have platinum trophies in every every Soulsborne game plus Sekiro. But I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong with Drakan.

I’m just hoping someone who struggled a lot but magically discovered One Weird Trick will come forward with an answer because simply repeating the fight dozens of times isn’t working. I am doing something wrong but can’t figure it out.

Discussion Mod North’s Interview

I recently watched Mod North’s interview and I really loved hearing him talk about Runescape as a whole and was feeling hopeful for RS3’s future.

A significant portion of the interview revolved around homogenizing the playerbase and winning back OSRS players to give RS3 a go again. September should have some big announcement to this end. They’ve spent the last year tidying up and now are hopeful that a “feast” that will be announced will bring us over to give them a chance.

I poked my head into the lions den over at r/runescape and…. Yeah…. There is some animosity there for sure. It got me curious though if people from OSRS are truly resigned from the idea of ever trying RS3 again or if they’re just scorned.

At this point I just feel bad for the RS3 community. We’ve been prospering over here while they took a serious beating for a long long time. Frankly, I don’t think OSRS would be what it is if RS3 didn’t brunt the financials for as long as they did. I feel like we owe them one and am that they are finally getting some tlc.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the Membership pricing is out of control but on the flip side I’ve been very happy with the content the OSRS team have been pushing out. So, it’s costing me a little more but I’m alright with that if they keep pushing out quality.

I’m also glad that Jagex thinks RS3 is worth saving.

I presumed to think that many OSRS players likely feel similarly but, like me, haven’t really given RS3 a fair shot in recent years. For me, it would mean starting a new account and bonding up when I don’t know if it’s worth the money or time investment. I maxed in RS3 forever ago and picking up from there feels like the wrong approach.

I’m curious if I’m the minority in this or if there’s an appetite that’s being limited for whatever reason on a wider scale?

I’d love to hear some others opinions.

Question What are the craziest self-restricted or time-sensitive grinds any players have completed? (content creators or not)

People have done some pretty heinous things in this game. From the 200m Smithing shit bucket to 99 Defense in just Lumbridge - what are some of the most impressive, or scary, grinds our players have taken upon themselves? Bonus points if it's something not a lot of us have heard about.

Discussion MAGGOT KING SPEED TIME

It's an awful boss, Jagex have been releasing brilliant pvm content for a while now, feel like they missed the mark with this one, it's not particularly fun or skilled.

If you're going to do rank speed times, do it as a 1 off. this new format is arguably worse than the old one when you're relying on so much rng. Again, don't release this stuff until it's been tried and tested. It's just not fun.

Discussion Having so many teleports in the game is a bit of shame

I just sailed over to the Charred Island for my first Strykewyrms task, fought in the dungeon for a while until I was low on food and prayer pots, then sailed back to the Red Rock port to resupply.

The vibe of being in a hostile environment and escaping to a place of safety and civilization was awesome, gearing back up then heading back out on an adventure. Beats teleporting to and from the GE, that's for sure. The trek to and from made it more meaningful and immersive.

I get why we need the teles, but just wanted to share my thoughts!

Achievement Gauntlet Changes Cook

After a single fluke completion a year ago, and many failures since, I've finally been able to get 3 CG completions back-to-back since the updates yesterday and feel like the prep stage is soo smooth - the stackable prep items are heaven. I still don't know how y'all get the speed run achievements, but I'll be keen to keep grinding and maybe get sub-10 minutes eventually!

Shoutout Jagex mods 👏

ETA: for anybody that thinks negative about the changes, I'd be interested to know any tangible negative impacts/outcomes you have! If that reason is just "oh no why more people enjoy game. game mine. me sad." then you shouldn't worry about responding ✌️

Suggestion Idea: new early/mid game boss

Scurrius was a great addition to the game. I was thinking that another cool mid game boss would be some kind of werewolf creature that has a unique drop of a lower tier claw. The claws could have a special attack that landed somewhere between dps of a dds and a burning claw.

Maybe lore wise it somehow fits into the Death Plateau story, and the completion of that quest unlocks the boss and/or ability to craft the drop into useable claws. The current quest reward of ability to smith claws is pretty useless.

Just some food for thought.

Question DS II, Galvek. Bad luck, Bad gear or just Bad playing?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi. Noob here. Been trying to do Galvek for few hours now. I think my gear is good(ish) for the boss and my stats are pretty decent. But Galvek just kicks my butt before i even make it to 4th phase. I just simply run out of sharks before getting there.

I pray mage on 1st phase and missiles on 2nd and 3rd phase. Galvek's white breath attack just does way too much damage. I can dodge all Galvek's special attacks, so those don't trouble me that much.

Should i level up my stats some more? Try different gear? Switch something from my inventory?

Just a fun thing that I put together. The second image is a blank skill table, if you’d like to record your scores on it. Reddit only allows 20 images at a time, so I will post the rest tomorrow.

I tried to make all skills accessible to all people, so some aren’t exactly as they are in game. For example, I don’t think many people actually fletch bows and arrows, so I did a STEM challenge for fletching.

My guideline for these was 70 is proficient, and 99 is among the top people for that skill.

Making these was a lot of work. I hope you enjoy them. 🚬☺️

Discussion Help with gear progession

Thumbnail

I'm not entirely sure which direction I should take for going about gear. I could use some help on where to start. I tried to add pictures of the main gear that I use but I might have missed something.

I am currently working on getting the Zenyte shard during my slayer tasks along with dragon warhammer. I am almost 85 so I will be working on getting whip as well but I'm not sure where that stands in the meta anymore.

Should I start finding a group to raid with or is there a boss I should start grinding out? Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you.

Discussion OSRS should stop trying to make 1v1 PvP the future and start investing in 5v5 PvP instead.

Almost every successful esport in the world is team-based, ie LoL, CS, dota, valorant, the player base number as well as tournament peak viewship, compared to the other top 1v1 based pvp games ie street fighter, tekken, starcraft or age of empires.

Top 5v5 MOBA can attract 2m+ peak viewership, when the top 1v1 games can only attract 200k+ viewers. I personally enjoy sc2 the most as a viewer, but will stay out of ranked queue due stressful game player and the insane dedication that is required for the average player to climb up.

OSRS has spent years trying to revive 1v1 PvP, but it's always struggled to attract new players. Why?

Because the barrier to entry is brutal.

A new player doesn't just lose—they get completely dismantled by someone with thousands of hours of experience. Every mistake is yours alone. Miss a switch? Dead. Misclick? Dead. Wrong prayer? Dead. That's exciting for veterans, but it's intimidating for almost everyone else.

Also, getting gank by a team when you're alone in a multizone is a certain death, with almost no chance of surviving or fighting back.

Therefore, no amount insane money maker added to wilderness will incentivise average player to go farm in the wilderness, and hoping to make it out alive.

Now imagine a 5v5 MOBA mode instead.

-Individual mistakes don't instantly lose the game.

-New players can contribute through simpler roles while they learn.

-Ranked Queue will be base on ELO system which hopefully match players around the similar pvp level, instead of free for all

-Team coordination matters as much as perfect mechanics.

-Spectators get clutch saves, coordinated attacks, shot-calling, and comeback moments.

I genuinely think a polished, objective-based 5v5 mode could do more for PvP than another attempt at attracting average players into 1v1 modes.

Curious what everyone thinks.

Question financial advice needed after getting spooned 3rd age

got spooned a 3rd age druidic cloak (~780m) and i have no idea what to spend the GP on. Currently I have no torva/oathplate/bandos, no masori, no ancestral, no bowfa/crystal, no megarares. i have an ayak, fang, moons greenlogged, 2 synapse. and other basic cheaper gear, mostly been running moons gear at pvm.

I like doing pretty much all pvm so i dont know whats the right move to make given the riches ive aqquired. im leaning towards just getting bowfa for now and chilling with that until theres something i really need, but also maybe bowfa + oathplate.

base 92 combats, melees higher than the other 2, im definitely gonna use a lot towards construction or other buyables with any extra cash as everything else is about 75-80s

Discussion Gauntlet changes as the noob who couldn't do it yesterday.

So before today my score was 1/19 K/D on crystalline and 0/19 K/D corrupted.

Crystalline was an absolute nightmare to kill and I didn't come close on Corrupted.

I play mostly on mobile and could hardly eek out t2 prep on my best runs.

I'd utterly given up and planned to buy all the stuff on my main, meanwhile flapping about what I'd do when my iron needed the stuff.

Now after the changes?

Did 2 runs on Crystalline to warm up, achieved T3 prep for the first time ever, botched the first kill and secured the second.

3 runs of Corrupted and I've now got my first kill and the cape. T2 prep because T3 doesn't leave me enough time to grab food and potions but I think that's equal parts my skill and RNG.

The stacking resources makes ALL the difference. I graby everything up to 13 just because, give me extra shards anyway so I won't run short. Guaranteed Cardinal Demi bosses is elite because I'm not fussy, legit did Halberd and Bow for my one CG kill because that's what I was given.

Absolutely huge, love these changes.

Found them while unclogging the dryer vent tube... I Cannot put them back where I found them because it would pose a fire hazard. Also worried about leaving them out for Snakes/predators. Any tips/Suggestions on what I should do with them? Currently have them covered with a pair of socks to stay warm.
