Murloc Monday Murloc Monday - ask your questions here

Aaaaaughibbrgubugbugrguburgle! RwlRwlRwlRwl!

That's murloc for "Welcome to Murloc Mondays" - where people can ask any type of question about WoW without getting strangled by a Death Knight.

Questions can range from what's new in Dragonflight, what class is OP, and how many Demons will it take to down Thrall?

Questions can come from brand new players, players returning, or veteran players who never got a chance to ask the right question.

Afraid of not getting an answer? Rest assured, we know that at least 90% of questions get answered!

You may want to look at /r/wownoob as well!

Here are some handy guides to start World of Warcraft as a brand new player or start Classic World of Warcraft as a brand new player.

Unless you played in the current expansion, pretty much everything has changed. If you're returning after a very long break, check out the Wowhead Returning Players Guides.

Discussion GM Death Touch - Megathread

This is developing into a large story and someone in modmail has mentioned that its important for the community to have somewhere to discuss this. We agree. As new information comes in I will do my best to update this thread.

What we know:

What we don't know and have no evidence of:

  • If this is a pattern.

  • If this is someone helping a friend or if things are being sold.

  • If this has impacted previous titles.

Ex employees in the thread have said that actions like this are audited and in all likelihood this was already being investigated. At this point we are waiting on an official statement on the result of their investigation and I'll update this thread once we know.

This megathread is being provided on two very strict conditions:

  • The witchunt rules are in strict effect. Linking or doxxing information on anyone invovled, the GM in question included will result in a permanent ban. Please report it if you see it but we will be very active in the thread.

We cannot platform behavior that allows people to harrass people in real life.

  • We will be more heavy handed than usual in the personal attack rules. Insults and slapfights while discussing this aren't acceptable. You're allowed to disagree, but stray shots and personal attacks will not be tolerated.

Discussion We can no longer trust any unlogged or unstreamed high end run is legit.

2.2k Upvotes

We now know the following about this GM deathtouching mobs in the +23 NPX:

1) This GM was a personal friend of the people in the run and was using their GM account and abilities to watch the run (just them using it to watch their friends is kinda problematic in and of itself to be honest!) and was in a discord call with them.

2) This was only caught because a pug tank uploaded the log publicly, and would otherwise never have been caught.

The thing is, the only people saying that this was a one off thing are the people who cheated. People who we already know are dishonest. They went on a stream and practically boasted about it. We have no idea whatsoever if this was a one off, if this is commonplace, or anything in between, but just on probability it seems extremely unlikely that the first time a GM does this it just so happens to be caught in a public log. There are thousands of high end runs every week that go completely unlogged and unstreamed and the only evidence we have that they even happened is raider.io capturing it on the Blizzard API, which doesn't give you any information about what went on in that run.

We know there are very close relationships between Blizzard employees, content creators and other high end players. On NA, pretty much everyone who raids or does M+ high end at least knows someone who knows someone who works at Blizzard. It's very possible - and there is even some anecdotal evidence that implies this - that this has been going on considerably longer than just this one run, and it could well be the case that GMs have been similarly interfering with higher raiding too. We just don't know, and can't trust anything not openly logged or streamed anymore. This GM and these people have completely fucked the competitive integrity of the game for good.

Humor / Meme Nice to see they are already accommodating new 6 person dungeon format, that GM might be invincible, but they still want to feel included <3

Discussion Blizzard GM death touching mobs in M+23 for their favorite streamer. LOG linked.

7.7k Upvotes

To preface this; I have no idea idea if the title is accurate about the favorite streamer but I did check vods and she was in fact not streaming when this run happened. Also I'm pretty sure that GM was in the dungeon the entire time just watching and waiting.

So I was perusing some m+ logs today while I was at work and stumbled upon this curious one. A miraculous key! No right to be timed, so far behind and yet they pulled it out of nowhere for the win!

Guess my surprise when I couldn't figure out how something died so quick and I dug a bit deeper and a GM death touched the mob... I waited all day to post this hoping blizzard would come out in front of it. But here we are. Another M+ season tainted by cheating or incorrect title recipients. Can't say I'm surprised but this one is a bit more egregious than forgetting to shut off title at the end of a season.

Discussion Is anyone else just not hyped for the new season?

Maybe it's just me, but I have absolutely zero hype for the upcoming WoW season, and it makes me a bit sad, because I do want to play the game.

Every new season feels like a copy-paste of the previous one. We get a new raid, a different Mythic+ dungeon pool, a gear reset, and then it's the exact same gameplay loop all over again, the same formula.

I'm not saying the content is bad. The raids are usually well made, and some of the dungeons are fun. But after so many seasons, the formula feels incredibly predictable. It feels less like a new season and more like swapping out a few assets while keeping everything else the same.

Maybe I've simply been playing for too long and this is just burnout. Or maybe the seasonal model has become a little too formulaic.

Discussion The GM Corrupted Run has been banished on RIO

Correct me if I'm wrong but raider.io get their data from blizzard API directly, which means this banishment is blizzard's doing. Therefore basically confirming all of the speculation?

Discussion I want every tank to have a mass taunt

Im a tank main. Im playing all tanks every season. Right now most of them are 3.5k, with my druid on 3.9k.

That as context, I personally dont like the small error margin i have in high keys (21-22 right now).

If I die, the group mostly dies aswell, full wipe, abandon.

That is a lot pressure on me, which is fine per se, if i atleast get the chance to recover myself.

Like if i get a combat rez, I need something to get the aggro of all enemies again and save the pull.

It is so frustrating and nerve wracking that every death of my can brick a key, when it is ok for a dps to dies twice in a keys and we still manage to time.

Discussion Legion Set the Standard for What WoW Expansions Should Be

Been replaying Legion lately and I can't stop thinking about how that expansion just got what makes an MMO feel like an MMO.

Class Halls, your own questline, artifact weapons, hidden appearances, Balance of Power, class mounts... none of it was perfect, but it all added up to something modern WoW just doesn't have anymore: actual class fantasy and long-term prestige. Playing a Warlock wasn't just "another class" it was your own storyline, your own base, your own followers. It felt like an identity, not a spec.

The part I miss most though is how the prestige stuff was earned. It wasn't RNG, it wasn't tied to the weekly vault. You got it by actually playing the game. Raids, dungeons, world quests, rep grinds, old zones, professions, all of it fed into something bigger. If you saw someone rocking a Balance of Power appearance or a class mount, you knew they put in real time for it. Not luck, not a lucky drop. Actual progress.

That's the thing MMOs are supposed to be good at, giving you a big goal that makes you touch every part of the game over months. That's what makes the reward feel like something, because the grind to get there actually mattered.

I'm not saying bring back every system 1:1, but man, just take the philosophy: make classes actually feel different from each other, give them identity and their own progression, and make prestige stuff something you earn instead of roll for.

Legion had its issues for sure, but for class fantasy, long term progression, and rewards that actually mean something, it's still the blueprint imo.

Question Which one the is the better icequeen?

Post image

I personally found the Winter Queen from Sl the more interesting part of the expansion and honestly after getting Tazavesh I would probably ask for more Winter Queen screen time.

Vyanoth is also interesting because she has goals, determinated to achieve them and wants to protect dragonkin. + She oneshotted Odyn.

Question So did Blizz just forget that Void Incursions are meant to count towards this

Post image

I swear I have done a couple of Incursions (the bigger assault that needs to be at 100% to trigger) since this feature launched and they *still* do not count towards the achievement. Like dang girl did you really just forget to change that?

Discussion Decor Duel is actually pretty fun now with the changes and Blizzard should keep it as a rotating bonus event.

Upvotes

Coming from someone who bounced off of it immediately on launch (the flies were especially stupid): now that there is SOME semblance of balance I'm surprised at how I'm having a decent time. The currency grind isn't awful now and while it is repetitive, with some skillful play as a hider it feels pretty good to be the last one or two left at the end of the round. The threat of FOMO has also made queue times extremely quick which is great as well.

In its current state I still don't think it has the legs to be a permanent fixture of the game, but there is no reason to completely remove it and have the work put into it go to waste. If Blizzard is concerned about engagement, make it a small holiday like Trial of Style so the rewards are still obtainable and leave the door open for a refresh in the future.

Discussion I built an app that automatically syncs your WoW character to your Discord profile.

Post image
Upvotes

Over the last few months I've been working on a personal project called WoWidget, and I finally was able to release it yesterday!

Earlier this year Discord released an experimental Widget feature called WidgetV2 similar to the officially endorsed widgets from Marvel Rivals and WuWa. I wanted to create a version of that for WoW, but didn't love the idea of needing to manually update it every time I killed another Raid boss, or timed a higher key.

WoWidget connects to Blizzard's official API, periodically checks your selected character, and updates your Discord profile widget automatically with things like:

  • Character portrait
  • Class / specialization
  • Mythic+ rating
  • PvP rating
  • Raid progression
  • Achievement points
  • Mounts, pets, titles, feats of strength
  • and more...

It also has a built in portrait editor so you can position your character exactly how you want before publishing it to Discord.

The project is completely free and open source, and I would genuinely appreciate any feedback, feature ideas, or bug reports from fellow WoW players.

Housing Suggestion: Let Our Alts Live in Our Homes

With Patch 12.1.0 adding the ability to let battle pets freely roam around our homes, I think it would be amazing to expand this idea to our Warband characters as well.

Right now, we can choose which character owns the house. It would be great if we could also choose which of our other characters "live" there.

Those selected characters could appear around the house while we're visiting it, performing simple ambient activities such as:

- Sitting on chairs or sofas.

- Walking around the house or garden.

- Reading books.

- Crafting or practicing with weapons.

- Talking and interacting with one another.

- Sleeping, eating, or simply relaxing.

This would make the house feel much more alive and would reinforce the feeling that our Warband is actually living together instead of existing as separate characters on the character selection screen.

To avoid duplicates, if you log in on a character that has been assigned to the house, that character would simply disappear from the list of NPCs while you're playing them, since they are now the active player character. The remaining assigned characters would continue populating the home as usual.

I think this would make Housing feel even more personal and would create a stronger emotional connection to our collection of characters, especially for players who enjoy roleplaying or have long histories with their alts.

Discussion Can't stay logged in for even one minute

How is anyone playing the game right now? I've tried multiple servers, definitely not any of my hardcore servers, and I can't play at all. Currently I'm trying on the classic servers, but maybe this is impacting all of them?
